Chapter 4 BETRAYED BY HER BEST FRIEND

HELEN'S POV

SOME DAYS BACK

I had just found out about my mate and gosh I hated him instantly. He looked so round and fat and wasn't even attractive to me. Although I felt the excitement and connection I should feel to believe he truly is my mate but still I never wanted him.

"I cannot accept you as my mate," I had told him and ran out of the house.

"Helen! Helen!" I could hear my mum calling me back but I wouldn't stop as I continued to run until I was far away from home and alone crying out my eyes.

"Why will you give him as my mate? Why! Why can't I have handsome mates like others? Why?" I cried and yelled looking up at the sky. I was apparently mad at the moon goddess for choosing someone like that as my mate.

I had always imagined my mate to have a very handsome, tall, charming face and all that but I was punished with the opposite of what I imagined and wanted.

I burped and sniffed in stopping my nose from running as I wiped my face with the back of my hand.

I didn't know when I dozed off and woke up later to find the most handsome and amazing man standing right before me and staring down at me.

I jolted and sat upright, I was shy but he smiled at me and said, "Hey, it's okay. I won't hurt you, are you okay?"

Gosh, he had the most beautiful smile ever and right there I wanted him as mine, as my mate and future.

I nodded, "yes, I'm alright," I replied suddenly feeling excited.

"So, can I sit with you?" He asked sweetly, making my heart flutter again. I nodded yes and shifted a bit to create space for him.

"I am Liam and the Alpha of my pack," he introduced himself.

"Wow!" So he is also the Alpha of his pack. He seems too good to be real. I already like him. I told him my name and he commented nicely.

So we talked and chatted for long hours. He made me laugh and happy. We laughed and had fun as we talked for long hours that I forgot I was supposed to be heading home.

Then he asked me the question that ruined not just the moment but my entire system.

"Do you by any chance know Lily James? She is my mate but I can only see her on her eighteenth birthday which is some days away, do you know her? Is she nice?" He asked.

Why? Just why? Why does it have to be him? Just when I thought I have found the perfect one for me and now he is supposed to be Lily's mate. What should I do, should I lie to him about Karen or should I say the truth. I was confused.

"Helen? Are you okay?" he asked, jolting me back to the moment.

I forced a smile,"Yes..errr I'm fine,"

"Lily is my friend..." I started to say. Liam focused on me and was like "really? So how is she?"

I struggled with my conscience whether to say nice things about Lily and lose Liam to her or say otherwise and secure Liam for myself.

"She killed her mother on her sixteenth birthday..." I said and the look on Liam's face changed suddenly.

"She is a killer, how can she be my mate when she is a killer?" He asked me to breathe hard.

I didn't mean to say it this way to make him spite Lily but I massaged my conscience with the fact that there was still an atom of truth in what I said.

Right there, Liam promised to choose me over Lily as he would rather have me as his mate than Lily who is a killer.

PRESENT DAY

LILY'S POV

I searched around for Helen and Liam as I rushed after them. It was almost midnight and I could be transforming anytime and it's dangerous for me to be out as the first time transformation can be quite dangerous and I might not be able to control myself.

I heard a voice a bit away from where I stood and knew it was them. I was about to charge towards them in anger but decided to take them unawares.

What I heard on getting there made me regret coming there in the first place. I wished I could turn back the hands of them and unhear all that I heard.

"Babes, you shouldn't have said that in public, it would hurt her," Helen said to Liam as she made an attempt to sit on his lap.

"She is a killer, I can't have anything to do with her and I have chosen you now, okay?" Liam assured her.

"But what about the moon goddess?"

"Leave that to me,"

"What if I didn't tell you Lily killed her mother, would it have been different, would you have chosen me over her?"

My ears twitched from where I stood listening to them. I couldn't believe my ears. My own best friend was the one that told Liam I killed my mother so he could hate me and chose her. How could I trust her and told her the truth but she chose to betray me for a man.

12:00 on the dot, the moon was full. I looked up to see the fullmoon sitting pretty in the sky. I could hear the howling of some werewolves afar.

My hands began to shake as my fingers started to change into sharp claws. My eyes turned golden and I felt my entire body changing. I wondered what was happening as I was losing control over my will and ability to choose what I want to do. Then it hit me, the transformation was happening. Shit, I cursed within me as my dress ripped apart and I turned into a beautiful light silver colour werewolf.

I had no time to admire and bask in the euphoria of witnessing my first transformation as the anger I had set in. I looked and saw Liam and Helen over there together and it only heightened my anger. I charged at them and using my claws I scratched Helen's skin and injured her badly. She is a betrayer and deserved even more.

"Yaaaaaak!" I growled at them.

Liam's eyes turned angry and changed colour. He howled angrily at me. He wanted to shift shape and fight me but saw Helen lying injured on the ground and rushed towards her.

"Oooooooooooooo," he howled to gather other werewolves. I was afraid and shifted my shape back into my human self. I wanted to run but other werewolves were already gathered and I covered my naked body with crumbs of leaves. It was the full moon and some had shifted shapes and were ready to pounce on me once Alpha Liam gave the other.

Liam stood up and growled angrily again as he approached me.

"You truly are a killer and now you have injured your best friend again in a bid to kill her like you did to your mother. I will never accept you as my mate no matter what! what do we do to her?" He asked turning to my father who looked at me in disgust and told him to do with me whatever his heart desires.

"Guards! Arrest and chain her! She will be tortured for as long as I want!" Liam commanded.

I whimpered in pain as I shifted backwards but I was lifted up and carried to be chained and tortured.

Once again, my birthday has brought another unending suffering for me. Now I believe that I'm truly cursed from birth. I didn't mean to hurt Helen even though I was angry with her but I couldn't control myself. Nobody cared to hear me out as they dragged me to the pack's dungeon which was in Alpha Liam's house.
