Chapter 7 Ends with kissing in parking lot.

The sun had set by the time they finished their little game and Ali was famished so they decided to order takeouts from a near by restaurant.

They ate throwing in little conversation from time to time."I think we should stop doing it in the office."her cheeks were turning red from embarrassment.A loud voice of laughter echoed in the room,it was Alex,he hardly laughs so she wondered what she could've said to make him laugh like that.

"Are you embarrassed that some of my employees must have heard your failed attempts to contain your screams."She sighed and gave him a look

"you're unbelievable Alex really,that's not even what i meant it's just that, i mean it's inappropriate doing it here that's all"

"It has never been 'inappropriate' the other times why today?"his eyes were dancing with amusement "you always tell me you love the thrill of it so what happened?"she failed to answer all his questions because what he said has some truth in it,she failed to control her screams today unlike those 'other times' she couldn't understand what had happened, she completely lost herself in ecstasy forgetting everything around them.

"You don't have to worry though, there's no one in this floor and i sent Mark to a client before we started so nothing to worry about darling."Ali breathed relief letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding in.He was observing her like a hawk,so her expression didn't go past him

She still held her chin up stubbornly "Still, we are never going to do it here it's unprofessional."

He smirked and said"We'll see about that"he was mocking her.

Silence stretched over,a comfortable one and they finished their food.

"So,am done,i think i'll go now it's quite late."

"Let me take you" he stood up taking his coat from the chair.

"There's no need don't worry, i'll get home my self plus if i leave my car here what will i use tomorrow?my other car is at my parent's house."

"Okay let's get to the parking lot then,your car is there right?"

"Yes it is."she collected her things and they made there way out of the office.Taking the elevator down, they reached the parking lot and took slow steps towards their parked cars.

"Ugh i don't want to leave though."Ali was reluctant to leave that day even though the idea to head home was hers.

"You know my place is always there for you,you can come with me and tomorrow i'll drop you off at work."They had stopped and stood face to face.

"No, i'll just go today then tomorrow i'll sleep over at your place."

"Okay then,goodnight "they kissed but not just any normal kiss,it was filled with an emotion they both could not explain.He opened the car door for her as she got in but was starring at him through the window until she finally couldn't see him that's when he also got in his car and drove off.

She reached her apartment but uneasiness was all she felt that too about something she has yet to find out.Deciding to let it go,she prepared for bed and sleep overtook her the moment her head hit the pillow however, her sleep was anything but good.

In her office,a cup of coffee was gripped tightly in her hand as she tried to concentrate on work without her eyes betraying her.She was exhausted,didn't have a peaceful sleep due to mid-sleep awakenings she had through the night which left her with a headache till currently.

Suddenly, a commotion was heard outside,her head was already troubling her,she couldn't take all the noise so she took her phone ready to call Alma and ask her to stop whatever was going on there but she didn't even get to press the dial button when her door burst open and in came detective Martin with Alma hot on his heels pleading with him to not go in without being announced.Before Ali could voice her displeasure on the intrusion, the detective beat her.

"Miss Alina Jeffery your under arrest for drug trafficking,"As he said that,officers she didn't see when he entered the office came to her and started handcuffing her.She was confused,her mind stopped functioning.

He continued "you have the right to remain silent,anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.You have the right to an attorney,if you can't afford one ,you'll be provided with one."

Everything happened so fast,she was suddenly being pushed out of the building,whispers could be heard in the background from the workers who crowded the path to see what was going on.It was chaos.She couldn't feel her legs moving but she found herself outside the building which was flooded with reporters who were trying to get a bit of information.So many questions were thrown at her,

'Why did you do it.'

'Miss Jeffery,didn't you feel guilty doing this to your family are you perhaps not a legitimate family member'

She heard many questions, most of them were accusing,only few were considerate enough to ask if the allegations were true or not.She was taken to the car with sirens blaring and went straight to custody.

"You have a right to make a phone call"the moment she got the phone she snatched it away and called her friend Claudia.She was a lawyer, she'd know what to do.

Claudia was in a meeting when her phone rang,she didn't recognize the number but went on to pick it up anyway.What she heard was a distraught voice of Ali.She had to calm her before telling her to repeat what she was saying.

Shock,hurt and anger were the emotions that brewed inside her.How could anyone think that of her friend?She was the most innocent person and she ever met who couldn't even hurt a fly.She vowed to get her out of that place,it wasn't for her,she was Alina if there's anything she deserved was pure heaven.

"Don't worry Ali am on my way there right now."

Alina's arrest had left the office in complete bewilderment, the security locked the building doors to prevent the reporters struggling to enter.Phones went off left and right.David was in his office together with his remaining children,all that happened shocked them but they still managed to talk to every client who called.

"I refuse to believe that Ali is responsible for this,something is not right.Dad call your contacts and get her out of there.I don't want my sister to spend anymore time in that..that place."That was Abigail,Ali's twin sister,although they were twins they weren't identical,the resemblance was there but you wouldn't tell if they are twins unless they told you.

"If the police arrested her they must have a solid reason, i'll have to find out first about the evidence they have on her."David told her daughter who wasn't pleased with the answer.Jack and Leo were also in the room but their expression was one that couldn't be deciphered.They were still trying to digest what had happened to their little sister

"Dad you can't possibly tell me that you believe whatever shitty evidence they have against her,Ali is clean we know her."

"Language Abi,all am saying is that we'll have to look deep into the matter before doing anything,if she's guilty then she'll have to face the law,i don't know what happened to that kid but she's been mysterious lately,she sneaks out of the office before office hours have ended every Thursday and when i asked her to explain she refused.Am not going to sympathize any mistakes, if she's found guilty then she'll face jail time."

He tried to sound firm but he himself knows how much it hurts to say that,after all they are talking about his daughter.But he was a man of his principles.

Abi couldn't believe what was coming out of her father's mouth,she just knows for fact that Ali was not guilty and no court room will change that for her,her twin can be impulsive and crazy at times but she had a limit that she herself knew very well.

"I can not believe what am hearing dad,you've clearly lost your mind over this incident but i can assure you that Ali has nothing to do with it."she was shouting,pleading with her father to hear her out.Glancing over her two brothers who sat there like muted statues she spoke to them"guys help me out here, tell dad that whatever he's doing is wrong and he will regret it.

"Am sorry Abi but whatever dad said is true,whether she's innocent or not the court will be the judge of that and if she is proven guilty then there's nothing we can do"that was Leo,the eldest,though he was deeply wounded to see his sister being arrested he was still standing in his principles too of being in accordance with the law,just like how his father taught them.

"You,can't be serious,that is your younger sister your talking about not some stranger,you've known her your whole life."her voice was now trembling and tears had started streaming down her face for the first time in a long long time.

"Exactly the point Abi,we know her,she's no stranger and we know that she does things sometimes without even thinking of the consequences" Jack chimed in but his anger was the one talking.

"But this isn't just anything we're talking about drug trafficking here not skipping school or sneaking out the house to go to a party."she had her hands everywhere as she explained the weight of the situation,she thought that all of them had gone mad.

"Enough,i've said what i've said,you should understand this just like how your brothers have,it's my fault for spoiling you two too much and not raising you in the same way with the same principles like i did your brothers,maybe then we would not have been in this mess."

"I'll call my lawyer to deal with this matter."he finished.

She turned around furiously and without saying anything she went out of the office and called her mother.

Their mother had her own business so she doesn't work in the same building with them.She heard the news and fainted due to the shock.She was a sensitive woman,their father loved and adored her,maybe she can talk some sense into him.

"Hello mother,"

"Abi please tell me what's going on with your sister,why was she arrested?"

"Mom they say she had something to do with the drugs that were found in the container,but i know her am sure it's not her,she can't do this, plus she would have told me she always confides in me about her stupid ideas and this one isn't hers.Both of them were hysterical and in tears.

"I know hunny i know my kids well enough to know that she didn't do it,am on my way to see her right now.

"Wait for me mom am going with you but just help me speak to dad about this matter he's going crazy saying that if Ali did it he would let her get punished.Mom i've tried my best to make him see things clearly but all my attempts are futile and the worst thing is that Jack and Leo have sided with him.

This news set Eleanor on the edge,she felt like strangling her husband but thought against it,first she'd think of ways to get her daughter out of that place.

"Don't worry my baby let's work first on getting Ali out of there."

"okay mom,give me twenty minutes i'll be there so we can go to her.

At the police station,Claudia had already arrive and got to talk the one handling Ali's case about what she was accused of together with the evidence found against her.No doubt that it was strong but nothing she can't handle,she's one of the most renowned lawyers in town who solved most difficult cases.This one too will go to her check list.She was allowed to speak to Alina and as she was taken to where she was,Abi and her mother also arrived.

"Miss Jeffery,Abi nice to see you," she gave them both a side hug and a kiss as they did the same.

"Oh Claudia just call me Eli your practically family you know.How is my baby what do they have against her?"she asked worry etched all over her features.she explained it to them as they were going in to see her.

They reached the cell to where she was held and found a devastated Ali in it.She was staring at nothing in particular,seeing her that way made their hearts break into pieces......
