It was on a Saturday:
I woke up, very comfortable. I rose up and looked around, and wow, the room was tidied up. I was changed too, UNAWRES. I got off from bed and stretched my body, yawning lazily .
".... Get your hands off me, you pervert" I heard from my window, the voice sounds trouble. I opened my window and looked. Surprisingly, a little girl almost panicking was confronted by 3 guys... She was holding her bicycle firmly and moving backwards as they were charging slowly to her.
I paused to see their next move. Just then, one of the boys, perhaps the red-headed one, grabbed her bicycle from her, throwing it reluctantly. She gasped and made to run but they held her. The head of the bully group went close to her, held her cheeks and told her some inaudible words to her. From her reactions, it was threat, cause she started crying when they left her and entered their various bike.
I watched the whole event and stared at the poor girl. Now I get it. Now I get while mum screamed at me whenever I tried or even hit someone.
I felt sorry for her almost immediately. I got to the wardrobe and got a black leather jacket and a jean. With my shirt on I had my jean trouser and the jacket. I don't know but I'm going to meet her. I came out from my room and straight to the parlour.
"Urm.... G, to where?" I heard Kelvin's voice from the bar at the far end of the parlour. I apparently told him my mission. Getting to the place I'm supposed to see the girl, I saw no one, not even her bicycle.
"Well, that's waste of time", I said almost loud.
"Or maybe not", I said as I saw her, but without a bicycle this time. This creature looked at me and then looked ahead from where the bullies went out.
"Sorry, but did you see my sister?" She asked rather puzzled.
"Uhm, no..... I didn't, but what happened to your bicycle" I asked expecting her to be with it, as I saw in my room.
"Bicycle? How?", She asked. She was confused now. I pondered about what happened previously. Was she trying to play smart? But she was too serious for such joke.
"What did you do to those boys", I asked tactfully, to know if she was faking it. But she looked at me, very confused.
"What are you talking about, and which boys?". I scratched my head and looked away.
" Wait, did you see her with those boys?", she asked almost immediately. I nodded. Then I noticed it was her twin.
"Do you know where they went to? I can find them if you tell me", she pleaded almost purple with fear.
" The boys took that direction... But your sister, I don't know", I said. She swallowed hard. And went towards the direction I pointed, the boys route, without telling me any other word.
I looked at her as she walked. She didn't look more fashionable and sophisticated as I thought she could. Her steps were quick and briskly. I couldn't fathom where I got my bravery from to call her. She turned, wondering why I stopped her.
"Can I know your name?", I asked. But she simply turn, and kept walking. I thought I was considered a fool till I finally heard "Sofia".
* * * * *
"Her name's Sofia", I told kelvin as I sipped my yoghurt. Kelvin smiled. He must have known such situation occur here often. His smile said it all.
"Ok, look here, Greg, you are new here and you don't know much about the neighborhood. So you don't really have to intervene to matters that you think are not supposed to be right. Just because you wanna make it right", he said, pouring out a gin in a tumbler.
"I've been a bad boy all my previous years, I caused my family shame and I know my dad told you too. But I want to make rights all my mistake..."
"... By staying off completely from troubles!!", He interrupted.
" You don't really know what I'm going through, do you?", I asked, getting pissed off.
" Oh yes, I do"
" No, you don't"
" I know all this before you, Greg, and you can't make me think yours is different"
" It is, and can you stop acting like my dad? I'm gonna help get rid of those boys if they touch a soul, through intimidation".I said, making it to my room.
" Greg, you gave your father a promise, are you gonna go beyond it?" he said without looking at me. I paused, feeling defeated. I hate my decision being tampered with.
" Kelvin, can you tell me something" I asked turning to him.
" What??.. "
" Can you tell me why you play with your health even when your life depends on an instrument?", I asked, knowing I have cross my line. But I don't care, and I demand an answer. Kelvin chuckled, he seems to expect my question.
" Greg, don't perk into my private life", he manage to say.
" I'm demanding my privacy too" I said, looking narrowly at him.
After a while...
" Greg, come have a sit" he said. It took me time to do so, so reluctantly, I walked and sat opposite him.
" Your father told me to take care of you, he gave me the authority over you. I'm acting him now. You have to understand. I heard about you and your past and I understand you want to make amends but, Greg, you can't make amends of violence with violence. I don't believe in that. I wish you won't too. Your father made you promise him and he wasn't stupid to do so, I just wish you understand", he said and drank some liquor of the substance I glass cup.
"I understand, very well" I said and got up.
" Greg, next week, you gotta begin school too and you don't have to get anything to distract you. You have challenges over there than here" he said and relax back to his chair.
I got to my room, sat at my bed and buried my head in my palms. The picture of the event against Sofia's sister was so annoying.
Seriously, those jerks and heartless idiots were to be taught some lessons.
But how....
My phone got a beep and it's from mum.
"Son, already missing you. Hope you preparing for school. Hoping to see you soon. I love you sweetest kid", I smiled warmly, and texted back.
" Thanks mum, you are the best".....
