Chapter 5 The Call.

After that day Agnes kept trying to climb the mountain. Night after night he kept trying but Agnes never knew he was being watched. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months but he kept trying. Agnes is not one to give up once he set his mind on something. "Come with me son. Let's take a walk." Mary offered Agnes a early morning. She saw how determined he looked. Nothing can stop Agnes from trying to reach the top of the mountain. Maybe his destiny is calling. "Mom..we've been walking for hours and you haven't said a thing." He breaks the silence after walking for a long time.

Mary turned toward him and held his hand, "I want to discuss about destiny Agnes and.." but she was cut off by Agnes. "Mom that's really not necessary." Agnes protested. "It is. I have watched you climb that mountain for what seems like a umpteenth times." Mary drew in a long breath before exhaling slowly. "I want you safe ok? I guess this is the time I have to let go. Promise me you will come back to me and your father." She cried. Agnes was startled at her emotional outburst. "Mom don't cry. I promise to come back. I just feel like I'm being called. Maybe this is my destiny after all." "Yes son and I have something that can help." Mary said. **** After the talk Agnes had with Mary, he has been free it seems like a heavy weight has been lifted off his shoulder. Maybe discussing about it with Mary have him a different feeling or him getting to know she's been watching him since the day he has been trying to climb it. Agnes' happiness knew no bound when Mary told him she has something that can help. They all sat in the biggest room in their house, the room served as the living room and also the dining. "Why are you happy? You've just smiled since first time in months. Hmm what may be the cause." Clement held his chin pretending to think. Then his eyes lit up. "I got it. Agnes started hitting back on her. The blacksmith's daughter." Clement exclaimed. Achilles chuckled. "Is that true?" Anapheus asked innocently. Mary beat him to it before Agnes could answer. "Clement don't put it on your brother when you've been looking at the Blacksmith's daughter with those puppy eyes. I saw you stalking her some days ago when she went to the field." Clement blushed and hid his face. "And now our youngest brother is in love with one of the village's damsel. Way to go Clem." Agnes teased winking at him. Clement groaned. Achilles laughed and fist bumped with Agnes. "You should go get the girl and not stay in hiding till some boys take her away. I also noticed some boys looking at her that way. Who know it might be too late for you to get her if you wait a little longer." Mary said. "You notice everything in this village and you act like you don't know a thing." Anapeheus said with amusement. Mary shrugged. "I have ears everywhere." They all sat and a small time later the maids came in and starts serving food. They all are in silence until Agnes spoke up. "I have something to tell all of you." He began. Everyone looked up from their food and directed their gaze toward him. Mary smiled a little and nodded slightly giving him a go ahead. "I want to see for..um see for myself if there's really life up there." He continued but was interrupted. "Why are you so obsessed with this mountain of a thing. It's not like it's true. You just made a thing out if it." Clement hissed. "Shut up Clement. Don't let me do that for you." Mary hissed back at him surprising everyone. Clement groaned, Mary urged Agnes to continue. "I want to go up the mountain. I know it sounds stupid but I just can't get my head out of it." Agnes brought out the golden anklet from his pocket and put it on the table for all to see. He turned to Clement and said "This is why I'm obsessed with going up there. I saw this at the base of the mountain. I know everyone would think it's might come from the nearby village. Even the blacksmith testified that he has never seen anything like it." He pauses then looked at everyone to see them looking at him intently, even Clement started to listen. "And I also want to tell you that I've been trying to climb the mountain for some months back. Numerous times I have failed. I just don't want to disappear overnight. That's why I'm telling you this." Agnes finished. A minute passed, two minutes passed and no one said anything. "You know I would really appreciate if someone just say something. Even coughing is accepted." Agnes complained. Anapheus cleared his throat. "I don't know what to say but.." "I think that's a great idea." Mary cut him off earning a glare from Anapheus. "Don't you think that's suicide? The mountain is so tall that it almost touched the sky and there's the water falling which will make it hard to climb. I'm not trying to be a bad vibe but you have to think it through." Achilles exclaimed. "Even if you get up there what do you think you are going to do? You are not just going to walk around. And don't tell me you will start looking for the lady that has the golden anklet." Clement remarked. Everyone reasoned it to be true. "Yeah that's true. What do you intend doing there?" Mary asked. "I don't know but I know something's there waiting for me." Agnes answered. "Hmm.?" "Yeah." "Why do you think that?" "I'm being called."
