Yes . I chose to pretend to be an intern. It's absurd as it's just a small clinic but I'm sure the patient wouldn't question the fact--or let's just say ,I hope he wouldn't question it.
The only hitch in my perfectly mapped out plan right this moment is the fact that I couldn't get a taxi. I have been standing here for minutes and I haven't gotten a single taxi. Whenever I mention the address, they just zoom off leaving in the gust of their car's smoke exhaust.
"What is wrong with you people? I'm not going to hell for fuck's sake! " I yell when the last taxi I called also zoomed off without a word. I was slowly drifting into frustration and and nervousness. I am getting late and each moment I spend poses a threat to my perfect plan. The patient could have called the office phone again or worse, my uncle's cell phone nad then my cover will be completely blown before I even leave here.
I am determined to get out if here and I swear by God I won't let the next taxi pass me by.
My next target came as soon as I made the determination. Bingo. The taxi stops in front of me and I gave the driver my most charming smile. I saw him cringe. Well I've been told countless times that I had a scary smile but that won't stop me from getting a taxi right here and now.
" 976, Te amor Mansion? " I say already prepared to do something crazy the moment he tries to leave me hanging. He would leave here with me either I get into the car or he drags me while holding the car boot.
He paused for a while before saying
" I won't drive you into the mansion miss, I'll let you off outside the gates"
I was taken aback for a second. I totally didn't expect him to say that. I have already prepared myself mentally to enter his car by all means if he tries to zoom off.
" Wow-- I -- oh! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you "
I repeat as I hurried into the car. He drove off immediately. My pounding heart subsided knowing that I would be at the destination soon.
As he drove, I noticed the driver looking at me through the rear view mirror. It was strange but didn't feel creepy. It looked like he was itching to say something. When our eyes hold through the mirror, I raised an eye brow in question.
"Do you mind me asking you a question? " he finally asks
" shoot" I reply. My mind set on where I was going.
" why is a young lady like you going to that Mansion?"
The question didn't quiet register.
"That mansion? " I repeat and he nods.
" what about the mansion? " I asked genuinely curious. The look in his eyes told me he had more to say but he kept mute. Somewhere, deep down, something tugged at me. I don't know where I'm going but the reactions of the taxi drivers to it didn't settle well with me. Is the mansion haunted or what?
" I'm a medical intern" I said, when he doesn't reply my previous question "errr... My boss... I mean, the doctor in charge sent me there to treat an outpatient. It's like a practice, you know... " I lie smoothly and he only nods.
We didn't say anything for the rest of the journey.
He suddenly made a turn at an isolated place and drove down a long lane. I've never gone this far before and it seemed like it was a different place entirely. And finally, be stopped in front of a big gate with tall fences that pretty much concealed whatever is in there. I get down slowly and paid the driver.
" Be careful " He said and drove off. Those words seem to hold a meaning that I couldn't decipher. I'm just here to treat a patient, why did he make it seem like a big deal? My bets on the huge gate which I knew concealed a even bigger Mansion, is that it's probably owned by some reach family and controlled by a spoilt heir. What's there to worry about or be wary off?
I pressed the bells and the gates open with a big rumble almost immediately.
A breathless wow escaped my lips.
It was bigger than I even imagined and surrounded by a beautiful garden and with grasses all over. The mansion is big enough for an entire generation to stay at. Who the heck lives here?
I walk with careful steps towards the giant door that is the entrance to the huge mansion and breathing in and assuring myself that I could do a good job, I knock on the door. It opened immediately and I had to take a cautious step back.
A tall Man with a face as hard as stone showed up at the door. His frame towered over me and almost touched the hinges of the door that looked so high up from where I stood. His face looked like he has lost the ability to smile for a very long time and a long scar drew down his cheeks. In all, he looks scary. I gulp in fright. His eyes rake up and down my body and I've never been so cautious of how I dress until this moment.
His icy eyes left me and looked behind me as if in search of someone
"Where is Ted? And who are you? " the question sounded as dangerous as the voice.
" huh---huh" I stutter helplessly.
" I won't ask you that question again, answer me" It was a warning.
"I'm---I'm Enisa, an intern--- an intern at Ted's clinic."
"What? Is this a joke? Ted sent an intern?"
"Huh yeah yeah he did. Huh, he had to run off to do something. Hehe" I laughed awkwardly. The man in front of me wasn't smiling and so I regained my composure? Why is he so uptight!? He is probably a bodyguard or a butler to the rich folks but are bodyguards meant to be so scary.
" I'm calling him"
I leap forward immediately and grab his hands on impulse to stop him from making the call. He gave me a deadly glare when I grab his hands and I jumped away. He can't call my uncle. He'll blow my cover !
"I'm sorry-- I am sooo sorry" I say " but you can't reach him, err--he's praying---yeah, he's a devout Christian you know--I mean, hallelujah to God right? " I rambled on. Nothing else can describe this moment other than awkward. The man's eyes held suspiciousness as he eyed me.
"Capo won't like this" He mutter on under his breath
" Cap-----" I don't get to complete my sentence as his cell phone range. He cursed under his breath when he looked down to see who was calling him .
"You know what, get in and get go work! "
I almost squeal in excitement. He enters into it the mansion and I follow. Slap me silly but I've never a house this huge with the ceiling so high it almost seem like it would reach the sky. I felt so little in the middle of it. The big was empty and our footsteps echo as we walk.
We pass series of rooms. Just how many people stay in this mansion? As we got closer to the rooms that mark the end of the mansion, I heard noises.
Painful groans that almost make me stop to rethink the decision I made today. I do not need anyone to tell me that there is more than I bargained for in there. I couldn't go back. One look at the deadly and big man in front me had me squirming in the fear that didn't creep into me a while ago.
And so as soon as we get to a room which door was opened, my draw dropped.
Red. Acrylic red. The color of blood was all over. In simpler terms, there was blood all over. I couldn't count the number of men who are as big as the one who led me here that had blood covering them like it was water. I gulp and took a step back only to hit a big barrier which was in the form of the muscular bodyguard that led me in here. He stood tall and frighteningly. There's no getting out of here.
" what are you waiting for? " he said glaring menacingly at me. This time, the devil's angel that pushed me to take such a big risk left me to suffer the results. One look into the room again and I falter.
What have I gotten myself into?
