Chapter 5 Five

I slowly woke to birds chirping. I opened my eyes, actually enjoying the sun in my eyes. "Our mate is looking for us." Scarlet said.

I sighed. "I haven't even been gone that long. Just one night."

"He thinks that's too long. Same with Ryu. He's looking for us too."

"Do you think they are going to get along now?"

"Maybe. We did just disappear on them last night. They may have put aside their mistrust to find us."

"I want them to drop it and move on. I do not like fighting."

"I know you don't. I've been with you for years you know. We should give them a chance to find us and see what happens."

I agreed with her and headed toward the river. I decided that I would leave my scent along the way for them to follow. As I rubbed my fur against a tree, I heard a howl not for behind me.

"Who was that?" I linked Scarlet.

"Not anyone friendly! Run Kanna!" I took her warning and ran. I didn't make it easy to follow. I ran in zigzags and loops to throw my follower off. At one point, I had turned back toward the cave and went the long way around to get back to the house. By the end of it, I was very tired and in need of a bath. In front of the house, I dropped to the ground from exhaustion. My body shifted leaving me naked and breathing heavy on the grass.

"Kanna!" I heard Alpha Luke yell. I didn't bother responding and just let my heavy eyes close and fall asleep.

Ryu's POV

I followed Kanna's scent. She didn't make it easy to follow after a certain point. It seemed like she was trying to hide or get away from something following her. I did catch a scent of an unknown wolf, but it seemed they gave up on her scent after the cave. I continued to follow her scent up until I found her in the front yard of the pack house being lifted by Alpha Luke.

"Kanna!" I linked her, but it felt like it didn't go through to her. She might be asleep. I followed Alpha into the house keeping my head down in his presence as a show of respect.

"Ryu! Did you find her?" Alexander linked me. We had formed a bond together from our fear that Kanna was hurt or kidnapped. I whimpered and paced the hall by the room they brought her to.

"She's here. Alpha found her on the grass out front of the house. She's not conscious. Please get back here fast, Alex. I'm worried the other wolf that was following her hurt her."

Not too long after I closed the link, Alexander showed up. His wolf form was much bigger than mine. That was a clear indication that he is an alpha where I am only an omega. Alexander shifted quickly and opened the door. I caught a glimpse of Kanna before the door closed. She looked sweaty and her breath was uneven. "I hope she doesn't have a fever. I know from experience that fevers with our kind aren't good at all." I thought. Fevers for our kind can't be treated like normal fevers. She would have to be brought up the mountain to the coldest part of the river and put into the water. Sadly, we can't be eased into it. We have to be thrown in and left until we wake up. I found that out by my dragon friend when I had a fever.

I continued to pace and whine up and down the hall. They were taking forever to leave the room. "Alex, is she okay?" I linked him.

"No. She's burning up."

"Open the door. We have to take her up the mountain. Hurry! Please!"

The door opened a second later and rushed over to her. She was drenched in sweat and her face was very red. They had dressed her in warm clothing. "Sorry Alex." I linked him as I tore her clothes off. "Put her on my back please. I need to take her to the mountain." Alex lifted her and placed her on my back.

"You be careful with my mate. I'll follow as soon as I can." I took off as fast as I could. I knew running wasn't going to be fast enough. I felt my wings sprout from my back. "Hold on Kanna." I thought as I felt her breathing become my ragged. I took off into the sky and flew to the mountain. I prayed that there was a river up here. Luckily, there was. I swooped down and dropped her into the water, landing on the riverbank, I watched her. She sank to the bottom quickly where it was coldest. I paced as I heard Alexander come closer to me with his parents.

"Where is she?" Alex growled. I looked at him then at the river.

"Please trust me. I've been through this before. This is the only way to rid her of fever." I whimpered. Alex growled and paced with me. He may have now been In human form, but he was still frightening.

Bubbles formed in the water. I watched, not letting anything else distract me. I sat down watching just like my old friend did. He told me that when I had a fever, I was under that water for a few days. I hoped Kanna would not be down there that long. The Luna was human and she would survive if she stayed here too long. "Alex, watch the water. I will return in a little bit." I didn't wait for his answer and took off into the sky. My wings were strong enough to fly great distances.

I flew all the way back to my old dragon friend. He didn't like surprises, but he was the only one I could go to. He knew a lot of things. He's been around for a long time. I shifted and stepped into his lair. "Dreakon! Dreakon, please! I need your help!" I called out. I heard him growl and come out of the shadows.

"Ryu, my old friend." He said.

"Dreakon, my sister has a fever. I need to know what you did for me when I had a fever. "

"I thought you disliked your sister. Weren't you supposed to kill her when you found her?"

"Yes, but, I cannot. She is very kind and loving. Nothing of what my parents made the stories sound. Please Dreakon, I don't want to lose her."

He sighed, letting out a puff of smoke. "Bring me to her." I shifted and took to the sky with Dreakon following me.

I flew all the way back to the river. Kanna still wasn't out of the water yet. When I landed, I noticed that Luna was shivering and her lips were blue. Without thinking, I ran over to her and immediately pulled her close wrapping my wings around her. Alpha growled at me. I was touching his mate and he didn't like that. "Luke, it's okay. He's keeping me warm." She said. He stopped and looked over at the water while I looked up to the sky. Soon enough, I saw Dreakon coming in for a landing. Alpha and Alex started growling at him.

I linked Alex. "Stop! He's here to help!" Alex stopped and it seemed like her linked his father because he stopped as well.

"Where is the girl Ryu?" Dreakon said. I shifted but kept my wings around the Luna.

"Sorry Luna. I can't link him. Please forgive me for my indecency." I whispered. I looked up at Dreakon. "Kanna is in the river. Alex knows where exactly." I said.

He turned to look at the river. "Ah, yes. I see her. She is quite beautiful." He put his head in the river and pulled her out, placing her on the snow covered river. "Ryu, does she have a mate?"

"Yes. That is me." Alex said.

"I see. I can see that she is part werewolf. You must mark her for this fever to break. To keep this type of thing from happening again, you must mate with her."

Alex blinked a couple of times, but it seemed like he didn't quite understand what Dreakon was saying. "Alex. She's in heat." I said. I watched his face turn bright red.

"I-- I can't do that without her permission! If she's not awake, I don't have her permission. She-- She could hate me. Or-- Or reject me. Or--" Dreakon roared making him stop his rambling.

"Listen to me carefully child, she will not wake if you do not do this. Her kind doesn't react well to being in heat. I've already been through it with Ryu. He's a little different than Kanna, but it's still the same fever. Do this, or leave her in the water until the day you die. Do you understand, child."

Alex hesitated for a moment, but nodded his head. "She will wake after it is over?"

"Yes, child. All will be well when you have done so."

Alex nodded again. "We should go." Luna said. No one disagreed and we turned away to walk into the forest line of the mountain. Dreakon being himself, blocked our view by laying in front of them.

I looked at Luna then at Dreakon. "You should go sit my Dreakon, Luna. He will keep you warm until I make us a fire. Alpha seems to be getting a bit cold too." I said and I moved my wings for her.

I gathered wood for the fire and placed them near Dreakon. "Please, Dreakon?" I asked. He lit the fire and we gathered around the fire to keep warm.

Not too long after night fall, we heard some moaning. Everyone knew what was happening over by the river. We all turned a deaf ear to it. "Should I go hunting Alpha?" I asked. He nodded and I shifted. Hunting was something Dreakon taught me. Laying low, I heard some movement to my left. I shifted my weight and took off. The deer was faster than I thought and it took me a few tries to get a hold on it to take it down. I dragged it back to the camp.

"Dreakon, how long have you been around for?" I heard the Luna ask.

Dreakon laughed. "I've been around so long, that I can't even remember my own hatch day."

"Hatch day?" Luna asked.

"Yes. We dragons aren't born like humans or wolves. Our mothers lay an egg or two like a bird. She keeps us warm with either her body or by breathing fire on us. That whole process takes about a year or two depending on how stubborn the baby in the egg is. Our hatch days, are like birthdays to you lot."

I shifted after preparing a large piece of meat and held it to Dreakon. "The Luna is human, Dreakon. She can't eat raw like we can." He blew flames at me and cooked the meat. Luna gasped as the flames went around my whole body. "Thank you Dreakon." I shook off the flames and walked over the the Luna, bowing my head as I offered her the food.

"Thank you." She said. After eating our fill, we sat there looking up at the sky. It had only been an hour since we left Kanna and Alex by the river. "You two best get back to your pack. Until her fever breaks, he has to keep going." Dreakon said to the Alpha and Luna. They nodded and then headed back to the house.

"Are you planning in staying here all night, Dreakon?"

"Yes. I must make sure that her fever is gone." I nodded and wrapped myself in my wings. I was beginning to get tired.

"Sleep Ryu. I will keep watch." Dreakon said. I nodded and watched the fire as my eyes slowly closed. The last thing I heard was my sisters moans and I drifted off to sleep.
