Chapter 5 Goosebumps

When she walked into his office for the appointment, she found him on a call and she had to scold herself for not waiting for his reply. She could guess he was probably going to scold her rudely. But surprisingly, when he placed his iPhone on the desk, he turned to her, a smile she wasn't used to playing on his lips, "Come in, McGraw."

This time, she made sure she composed her steps. After all, she had promised herself not to have those goosebumps around him again.

"So, I have the documents here and you'll be doing most of the review while I'll be correcting the mistakes found. But before we start, I'll like to tell you this is only part of testing your intelligence and knowing how competent you are. And I'll also like to commend your speech there. It was great, actually not what I expected. But you had to freak out when I intended on asking you out for a drink," He chuckled and once again, Beryl could feel her heart swelling but she tried to remain relaxed.

" Thank you, Mr Rainbows. I'm so glad I could impress you and be of help to the company's progress." Like she would've expected, he wrinkled his brows at her, amusement displaying on his face. But he covered his surprise with a smile and flumped himself on the swivel chair. He picked some arranged files on his desk and slithered it to before her. Wearing a small smile, she picked up the file and turned over to next page. She did a quick scan on the paper. A double entry transaction? She wondered why he had to let her review this. But luckily for her, she was able to spot the first mistake on a second look and that however derived the other mistakes to be found. This was surely the easiest task for her and there was no way she was making a mistake?

"Hmm," Kelvin hummed, going through her pointed mistakes. He wasn't wrong, she was the intelligent type. Approvingly, he smiled and looked up at her, "Ninety seven out of hundred, Ms McGraw. I'm glad to say I'm assured about the progress of Rainbows during your course of coming years with us and that we are willing to reckon on you to solve problems that arises in the future. " She wagered that it was the time to be more business like and especially with his outstretched hand.

She smiled, gratefully accepting his handshake, " It's my honor, Mr Rainbows." But she could swore she felt goosebumps on the skin he held and her body felt electrified from the intense, beautiful gaze of his gorgeous grey eyes. He smiled, once more and released her hand.

"Can I leave now, Mr Rainbows?" For some unknown reason, he hated the way she addressed him formally but he shrugged it off and nodded at her question, "Get ready for the lunch. It should be in the next thirty minutes or so." She nodded and with one more smile from him, she left his office, quite aware of his longing gaze on her.

His white berlin finally arrived at a location and Beryl couldn't wait to get away from his intimidating self. She couldn't wait to get out and give herself a space away from him. She was going to praise herself for sitting close to him throughout the thirty minutes ride and not ending up doing something stupid. But she had to wait for his driver to open the door for her while her boss went out through the other side. She was left to admire the beauty of the restaurant before her. Well, she recognized it to be his recently launched restaurant to celebrate the 80 years anniversary of the company but she had never, even in her dreams thought it'd be as big and extremely luxurious as this. She of course didn't need to get in before knowing its interior would be rather more breathtaking. Beryl was left with no more time to admire the beauty she could've considered to be another utopia when her boss arrived at her side and took her arm in his, adding to her own ache and diminishing her former relieve.

"Let's go," he said and led her to the glassy door.

Beryl was surprised when she found only four occupants at the table they were led to. Two businessmen and two women who she guessed was their secretaries, like her. She had expected to see a rowdy table, not this few people sitting around a table waiting for their arrival. But she managed to hold a smile as Mr Rainbows greeted them and pulled out a chair for her to sit. She thanked him before doing so and he in turn, sat beside her.

"We've been waiting for you for the past twelve minutes, Kelly," The one who looked the eldest, probably in his thirties complained, taking off his glasses.

"I'm sorry, man, I had to attend to some things." This was the first time she was hearing her boss apologize and converse more informally with someone and for a reason, she felt assured knowing he was the jovial type too.

"Attending to somethings? Do you mean fucking the hot bimbo?" The other one with dyed hair and blue eyes asked, a dirty smirk tugging at his lips as he glanced between her and Mr Rainbows. Her blood boiled, knowing she was being referred to as the bimbo but she tried to sustain her anger shrug his dirty accusation off.

"She isn't that type of girl, Wayne. She's just my new secretary," Kelvin said, his eyes scanning the table, seeing if he could steal a cup of wine. But everything on the table included pure alcohol, not something he wanted to have in the moment and definitely not something he thought Beryl could take.

" Your new secretary? Is she the beautiful pest in your office Darren said you talked about? " The one in his thirties said, pouring a shot of alcohol for himself. Kelvin gritted his teeth, angry that Darren had talked about him behind his back and that Leo had to tell him that in Beryl's presence.

" Why don't we go straight to business already?" He suggested, ringing the kitchen through the device in the middle of the table and in no minute, a waitress strode to their table wearing a blue shirt and black skirt barely reaching her knees.

"Bring her strawberry limeade, I'll have espresso martini." He said, before she could say something and she nodded, going to bring them their order.

"Ciara!" Beryl called, walking into the house, carrying two shopping bags in both hands. As she was about calling her for the second time, she perceived the most delicious scent of boiling chicken and a smile crept on her lips. Chicken was her favorite! And Ciara barely cooked the meal except she had great news, of course. And she couldn't wait to devour some of the delicious meal. After all, lunch couldn't go more bad with her boss's friends mostly flirting with her. Dropping her load on the sofa, she headed to the kitchen.

"Ciara," She found her sister preparing the chicken sauce over the counter. Her smile turned to a wide grin, " I'm back home! "

" I know, darling. Go up and get shower before lunch is ready. But first, come give biggy sissy a kiss." Beryl couldn't believe Ciara was being sweet to her and she knew something was attached to the treatment. She could bet it was about her job, so she wondered even more what news Cici had read. But nevertheless, she could only enjoy this treatment for the while being. She strode over and gave her a sister a short buss before going out of the room.

Her phone beeped from her purse and she brought it out. It was from an unknown number;

'Hey, I'm sorry about what happened during lunch. About what Wayne said in particular. About the party, Darren will be picking you up by 9:00 pm. ' It read. She needn't be told who it was. No other person than her boss. For a reason, she couldn't believe he was apologizing and she still tried to guess why, despite him already stating his reason. It was however still hard to believe a person like Mr Rainbows would be saying sorry to a person as poor as her. And that only made her like him the more. Only that he couldn't be hers, no matter how nice and sweet he becomes.

Her stomach growled, telling her she still needed to feed the empty pit so she turned off her phone's screen and stood up, fitting her feet into the footwear and heading out of the room. When she walked into the dining, she found her best meal already dished and served, with Ciara not in sight. Not caring about her sister's whereabout, she plunked down on the chair and got to dealing with the meal already.

"What happened at work today?" Her sister's very voice came from behind her as she jawed a piece of meat in her mouth.

"Nothing," she replied.

"Nothing?" Her sister repeated, taking the chair opposite her. She folded her arms together on the table, raising her brows at her, "You mean he didn't say or do anything with you?" Did he say something? Of course, he did. And about her dress.

"He told me I looked great and nothing, he didn't do anything." She told her, not interested in listening to her dirty sermons.

"You mean he didn't touch you or kiss you?" She choked on her saliva, surprised at her sister's question. What did she mean by touching her? Like kissing her or fucking her?

"He didn't, okay? He's a nice person and respects me as a lady so I hope you can clear every thoughts about me being with my boss away. "She said, her heart getting flustered at her words. She'd just openly about he was nice. But he was sweet too and she liked him already.

" You're blushing, Beryl. That only means you're lying. Tell me the truth already, "Ciara demanded and her cheeks only got more rosy. Was she really blushing? Oh, shit!

" I'm blushing because I can't believe you would think I will let my boss fuck me on my second day. That's absurd! "She rolled her eyes and picked another piece of meat.

Beryl stared back at herself in the mirror again. She looked gorgeous and elegant. At least, that was what she believed. She wore strapless bardot neck turquoise blue shaded gown. The dress had an open slit in the skirt that exposed her left thigh. And the flares of the skirt were made with net fabric while the inner lining was made with satin. It looked really pretty and she had matched it with spool heels. Ciara had helped her put on a more heavenly look by doing her makeup and hair. She couldn't wait to see Mr Rainbows and see his reaction. Of all, she couldn't wait to retire to her bed after the party. She hated parties and this wasn't an exception but for the fact that she wanted him to see how beautiful she looked.

"Beryl, his driver's arrived already!" Cici shouted outside and she picked her matching blue clutch, before rushing out of her room. As she ran down the stairs, she tried to assure herself nothing was going to go wrong tonight.
