CHAPTER 3

The bell rung three times as the students of force high looked up.

A student had gone to the window ton see what was happening and announced that the Force doctors had arrived in van for their periodic maintenance.

Some of the students had rushed to the gate, to escape but the soldiers had already barricade the doors leading to all exits.

One of the doctors announced with a microphone.

"Calm down everyone, no need to panic, it is just a routine check, no need to get all anxious. One of the doctors said to the students.

One of the teachers took the microphone and said,

"All of you should fall two straight lines. There will be batches, the rest of you should enter back your classes, we have to do this orderly. The students compiled as the soldiers pointed the guns at them ready to shoot, if anyone defies the order."

"Is this what happens all the time? Alyssa asked as they made their way back to their classes.

"Yup, pretty much. This is the routine for us, they just scan our DNA to check if they are still the same. Hazel replied as they sat down.

"Yeah, although I wonder how you are going to do it, you hate injections, this was one of the major reasons Cyril always told you to skip school, if they planned on coming here. Why didn't he inform you today?" Dwight asked.

I don't know, let me check if there is any text, maybe he doesn't know I am back from Iowa yet. I didn't exactly call him when I came back." Alyssa said bringing out her phone.

She unlocked her phone and checked her text messages, nothing. She checked for any missed calls, nada. She dialed his number and put it to her ears. It was switched off, she then looked for his office line and dialed it.

The phone rung for a while before it is connecting.

"Director Cyril, how may I help you?" Cyril said on the other end.

"Cyril, it is me, Alyssa." Alyssa said whispering.

"Alyssa, why are you calling me with this line, what's happening."

"I tried your personal line, it didn't go. So I decided to call this line."

"Oh, I switched it off. what's up?"

"Why didn't you inform me about the force doctors coming in for their test? I know I didn't tell you I was back, but I was planning to, today. You know that I am not a fan of injections. Don't you?"

"I know, I am so sorry, I had wanted to call and inform you, but the other directors were not happy with the special treatment, that you were getting so they made sure, you were in school before they came. If you weren't in school, they would have gone to your house, just to make sure that you took the test. There was nothing I could do to stop it."

"But, you already know that I am not an Inner. Your parents made sure of it, before getting us engaged, talk to him, and get him to order the doctors to not carry out the test on me.

I am sorry, but my father had already given his permission for you to take the test, there is nothing I can do. You just have to take it.... The phone was yanked out of her ears by a girl with blonde hair, as she yelled in the phone.

"EAT ASS BROTHER, she said and cut the call.

"What did you do that for? Alyssa asked exasperated.

"Oh, please, my brother never knew how to stand his ground and one more thing you should know is that Cyril worships our father, if my dad orders him to do something, he will don it without blinking an eye, believe me. Sian said sitting down

"Hey, Sian, what are you doing here? Hazel asked.

"Hey guys, I felt like coming to school today, although I am already regretting it."

"Not in the family business huh?" Dwight asked.

Nah, I have got nothing about the inners. They just want to live peacefully on their own without being turned to a lab rat, but my family is so strong headed. They love poking around for danger.

Wow, that's surprisingly. I thought that the entire family was in on it, no offense but I have seen you give speeches to the public about how you guys are working to stop the inners.

That's for public display. Besides my dad will shoot me without a second thought if I so much said something different from what he has drafted for me. Sian said.

Ouch, tough love. Alyssa said as one of the soldiers walked into their class and said

Its time for you guys, please come out in an orderly line.

The stiudents stood up quietly as they made their way to the hallways where the doctors sat, lots of blood tests already deposited aside for screening back at their H.O.D

The students went in one after the other, as the doctors drew their blood and dropped a bit of it in a chemical to see if it will change, if unchanged, the doctors allowed the student to leave,as their DNA at that time is still the same, then when they take it back to the lab, they will run more tests on it.

The line had been going smoothly until the ground began shaking, and the lights began to flicker.

Is it an earthquake? Dwight asked as things started falling from their original positions.

We got a runner, one of the doctors yelled as a girl burst out of the screening room and ran towards Alyssa.

She fell as Alyssa caught her.

Help me. She pleaded as the soldiers charged forward towards them, alyssa looked at the exit and saw that the exit was blocked. She looked back at the students who looked back at her with tears in her eyes.

Everything went in slow motion, just then electricity from nowhere hit the two soldiers at the exit and blew the door open.

Just then everything went back to normal as the girl ran towards the exit and escaped as the soldiers chased after her in public.

Then as sudden the earthquake started, it stopped. Only Alyssa was the one remaining standing through it all. Their classmates stood up, as Alyssa helped hazel and Dwight up together with Sian.

Are you hurt? Did she hurt you? Dwight asked checking her body for any injuries.

Ahem, we are fine too, thanks. Sian said with a fake cough.

I am okay, just confused.

Yeah me too, how did you remain standing in an earthquake and where the hell did that electricity come from? Hazel asked peering into her face.

Why are you looking at me like that? I have no idea, she said I should help her and then the doors were wide open for her to escape, that's all. Alyssa said.

So, she got earth quaky powers then, damn, no wonder she was good in bed. Dwight said.

You slept with her? Sian asked.

Yeah, you know, once. Dwight said rolling his eyes.

Still, it's not possible to have two powers at once, hers was definitely the first one because she was able to run amidst the shaking, but the second one was from a different source. Hazel said tapping her lips.

Let it go, hazel. You never let anything go. Alyssa said as the doctor walked out and pointed at them

We are ready for you guys.

Sian looked at them and said, well I am going first. I pray I turn out to be an Inner.

I hope so too, I can't wait to see your killer power. Dwight said as she entered leaving the three of them behind.

The girl kept on running entering alleys after alleys trying to lose the soldiers but they still managed to track her down. One of the policemen shot something at her like a blast which knocked her off her feet as she rolled down the stairs and stopped at the bottom,

Come with us quietly and we won't have to kill you. The soldier said as his partner was slowly advancing towards the girl.

Get away from me, you freak. The girl said struggling to get up.

Look who is calling freaks, wow the table are turned. His partner said laughing.

HEY! DOUCHEBAGS! you heard her, get away from her. A little girl screamed from where she stood.

The soldiers looked at the direction of where the voice came from, so did the girl and they saw that it was a girl not up to 12 years.

Who do you think you are little kid, better run away before we list you as collateral damage. One of the soldiers said.

Boohoo, you hurt my feelings, am not a little girl. She said as she zapped to where the soldier was and touched him, immediately the soldier fell down, dead.

His partner freaked out as he pointed the gun at the girl, his hands shaking.

You know, you are going to miss with the way your hand is shaking, but I am feeling generous a bit, I will give you a five minutes head start, run before I change my mind. The girl said as the soldier took off, running leaving the gun behind.

Who the hell are you? The girl on the floor asked.

Oh, I almost forgot about you, oh don't worry, we are on the same side, I wont kill you....yet. name is Toni and you are?

"Iris. The girl replied as she stood up.

Nice to meet you Iris, I haven't seen you back at home so you must be new, just broke out huh?"

"Yeah, in school. During the test." Iris said dusting her jeans.

"Lucky you. How did you escape? That place is usually fortified.

"A girl I guess, with black hair and blue strands, I think she helped me escape. See, thanks for everything and saving me, but I have to get going now, my mum and dad will be worried sick." Iris said

"That's probably a bad idea, by now the soldiers will be scooping out your house, waiting in case you show up. I do not know why people always run home thinking it is the safest place when it is actually the most dangerous." Toni said shaking her head.

"So if I can't go home, where else should I go?" Iris asked.

"I would say, come with me but considering the fact that I am 10 years old, nobody ever takes me seriously, so tough luck out there, sis." Toni said as she turned to leave.

"Wait, don't go. I will take you seriously, you just saved me. Where is there exactly?"

"You mean my home? Follow me, I will take you to see everyone, they are all sweet and kind, just stay clear of my mum......she's a bit overprotective of everyone." Toni said as they left together.

Immediately Alyssa stepped out of the screening room she was besieged by her friends.

"So, what happened. Did they inject you?" Dwight asked.

"Yeah they did, isn't injections painful?" She asked.

"Of course, they are. Why are you asking us?" Hazel said.

"It's because......never mind."

"Come on spill, we were expecting to hear you scream out when you entered but nothing so spill." Sian said looking at her.

"Well, it's probably nothing. It is just that when the doctor wanted to draw my blood, the needle broke, then the second one, it didn't pain me, the doctor said I was clean. That I was ordinary, but when I got to the door, the spot where she injected healed, like no sore spots or anything."

"Wow that's.... freaky. you are like superman, the kryptonite."

"Superman was an alien, and no needle could penetrate him, beside the doctor said she was clean, so maybe you have a fast regenerative system, the wound was small so it healed completely that's all." Hazel said.

Sure, anyways who is in for some ice-creams, let's get out of this hellhole. Dwight said.

I am." Sian and Alyssa chorused together.

"What about you, hazel?" Dwight asked.

"Whatever, so long that I am not paying." Hazel said as they all left the school premises.
