/ 1

Four months passed with rigorous lessons thankfully I was a fast learner, which made my teacher's work easier. Also uncle Tega and Samson were always there to help. The D-Day to exam came and I was fully prepared. The results came in two weeks later the news was broken by a very elated uncle Tega when he got back from work. The whole house was excited, they all wished me well and promised me a lot of goodies if I kept the good work. I was so happy, wishing I could tell Mama how I made her proud.

Years passed at Okota high school and I did all my best to ensure that I performed well in school, my teacher's were very proud of me. The most proud was uncle Tega, his wife and samson. They treated me like their own I didn't even feel like I was away from my mother. Life was good aunty Ada got pregnant two years later and conceived a beautiful baby girl. The twins were growing up quite fast too. Samson eventually gained admission into Yaba tech in Yaba to study mechanical engineering, he supported himself through car repairs this brought a relief to Uncle Tega's expenses. Also he added to the feeding at home.
Life was good we got used to being happy and thanked God for the kind of people he had blessed me with. Everything was fine until one day, uncle Tega walked in feeling down with a white envelope in his hand. I was in SS2 then, seeing him I ran inside to get aunty Ada's attention. She came out and went close to him.." my husband what's the matter, why the face.." he didn't let her finish when he handed the envelope to her. Aunty Ada's face went from confused to extremely displeased "this can't be happening, she wailed why would they sack you?". Uncle Tega just kept shaking his head " some fraudulent activities have been ongoing in the office and being the accounting officer, I should have noticed it. But I was too preoccupied with balancing the account that i lost charge of the financial downfall"...he sniffed and sat on the floor.."I am finished Ada where do I start from" this time he was crying and I couldn't help but feel the tear trickle down my face.
Aunty Ada tried to play strong and console her husband but I could see that her eyes were filled with unspoken words. I knew from that moment that things weren't going to be the same. Our days of sadness knew no bounds from that day onward.
