Chapter 4 Something is happening in my brother's head

Mia woke up after a few hours and decided to call her mother. She explained what happened at the airport and her mother was silent for a while which was so unusual of her.

"Mum please, say something." Mia was beginning to worry.

"I don't trust that boy. I had asked your father to return the ticket, but he was afraid of losing his job." Said Mrs. Fowler.

She continued. "I didn't want to make you worry before you left, but I do not have a good feeling about the whole thing."

Mia reassured her mum that Naomi and her brother were good people, and she would go to Luke only if he was there. She had even searched Eric's company online and saw that it was an outstanding company, and he was well respected in the business world.

"Did you use the money you got from Mr. Hill to buy the phone you are using? Mia's mum enquired.

"No mum. Naomi's brother bought me the phone." She paused before she continued to say. "I have decided not to use his money. I don't want to create problems for dad."

Mia spoke to her brother and promised to call her father when he had finished work. She went out and joined Naomi who was relaxing by the pool.

"I called my mum and I explain the situation. I feel sorry for her as she could not tell me before I left that she did not trust Luke." Mia looked sad.

Mia loved her parents, and she knew how they depended so much on Luke's parents.

"Your brother told me that you guys are leaving on Saturday evening." Mia worriedly said and Naomi smiled at her.

"I think he has now changed his mind as he said I should stay until I'm satisfied that you are ok." Naomi stunned her friend. She could see that Mia's face had now brightened.

"You are lucky to have a caring brother like Eric." Mia said and could not understand why Naomi kept on smiling.

"Buying you a phone, increasing my allowance to include your needs...girl!" Naomi chuckled. "Something is happening in my brother's head."

"He is being a big brother to me as well. Are you jealous Naomi?" Mia teased her friend. She also could see through Naomi's mind, so she wanted to stop her from saying what she implied.

"Funny, he has been looking at you differently from the way he looks at me.... his sister." Naomi said and the two girls laughed. Mia remembered the phone call Eric received when they were having breakfast.

"Don't say that in front of his girlfriend who called when we were having breakfast." Mia remarked and hoped that Naomi would say more about the girlfriend. She was wondering why he did not want to pick her up from the airport and also why he was not keen for her to stay at the villa.

"You mean Elyse the desperate one." Naomi frowned deeply. She could not say anything more as she noticed her brother approaching them.

He had been working in his study for a long time and so he decided to join the two girls. He pulled a garden chair and sat with the two friends. Florence brought him a glass and poured him a drink.

"Naomi, do you remember my friend Charlotte?" Eric asked his sister and her eyes widened which stunned Mia.

"Yes.... Yes...Charlotte the fashion designer. Do you want to help Mia get a job?" Naomi was overly excited.

Charlotte was Eric's good friend and fiancée of one of his friends. She had a massive clothing factory and had talented designers. Mia was now waiting for Eric's reply.

'Please......please I need a job when I get back home.' Mia was pleading internally.

"Mia if your boyfriend permits you to go back home, there is a job waiting for you there. I have already spoken to Charlotte." Eric said calmly.

"I will definitely go back home just not sure when and thank you so much Eric." She turned to Naomi. "Thank you, Naomi, and next time I will give up my window seat for you."

The three laughed as Naomi explained how she assumed the window seat was hers. Eric wanted to know more about Mia's family and her ambitions.

The trio stayed for some time talking and they decided to go inside as Mia wanted to help Florence prepare dinner. She had passion for cooking which she got from her mother.

They started walking and all three stopped because of the loud ringing of Naomi's phone. She looked at the caller and frowned as she had not recognised the caller.

"Can you put Mia on the phone now?" The caller demanded.

"No need to be rude." Naomi retorted and handed her phone to Mia.

"Why did you refuse to go with my friends? What are you playing at?" Luke started shouting at Mia without even greeting her.

"Luke you should have told your dad that you were in Spain so that I could have come when you were here." Mia said calmly.

"My friends will be calling soon, and you should tell them where you are, and they will come and collect you. I want to see you with them when I come back. Remember my dad bought that ticket." Luke was not giving her any choice.

Eric was getting annoyed with Luke, so he took the phone from Mia.

"Are you planning something against your girlfriend? Why are you so eager for her to be with your male friends when you are not there?" Eric angrily asked Luke.

He continued. "She is my sister's friend, and we will only hand her over to you not to your friends." Eric abruptly ended the call."

The three stared at each other as they got into the house. Mia was now in deep thoughts which worried her friend.

"If you want to go with your boyfriend's friends, I can call them now." Naomi was not sure what Mia wanted.

"Naomi. Thank God, I met you. Eric is right I think Luke has been planning something bad against me. I will return with you guys after the party." Mia was now worried about what Luke might do to her.

"I'm rushing back for work. You two can spend another week since it's Mia's first time abroad and there is a lot to see around and of course Naomi's hobby." Naomi gave her brother a side glance, but he ignored her.

Mia went to help Florence in the kitchen and Naomi stayed with her brother in the living room.

"What's going on big brother?" Naomi asked her brother as she had seen how caring he was to Mia.

He never really cared about any of her friends. He would just check if they were good friends or not and leave her to do whatever she wanted with them.

"What do you mean? You are the one who wanted to help your new friend and now you are questioning why I'm being nice." Eric replied without looking at his sister.

"Better than Elyse for a sister-in-law." Naomi chuckled and still Eric concentrated on the programme on the TV.

"She is beautiful." Naomi could not let go and still Eric ignored her.

"I'm worried though about her family." Naomi could now see the sudden interest from her brother. Besides worrying about her father's job Mia was also worried about their accommodation. The house they were living in belonged to the Hill family.

"I will meet her parents when I get back and I will assess the situation." Eric stunned his sister.

"Son-in-law at work." Naomi teased her brother. He gave her an ugly stare and she quickly rushed into the kitchen to see Mia and Florence cooking.

Later they had dinner and the two girls went to bed as they had plans for the next day.
