Chapter 8 Hungry Kisses And Heated Touches

There you are!
I shoved the wine glass on Elliot's chest, forcing him to grab unto it. I then ran a hand through my hair and redid my lipstick before pulling down my dress a little.
I waltzed over there with a slightly baffled Eliot following behind me. I stopped when I stood right infront of Layla. She was in a deep conversation with who I assumed was Elliot's wife, so she failed to notice me. I cleared my throat and reached behind me to pull Elliot to my side by the shoulder. "Weren't you going to introduce me?"
"Ah, yes!" He smiled as his excitement reinstated. Using his hand to gesture to the woman conversing with Layla, he spoke, "This is Jessica, my wife...Jessica this is Haley." The look on Layla's face when she finally turned and saw me was priceless. I would've laughed if I wasn't trying to look civilized.
I curled my fingers into Elliot's shoulder and he flinched. "Introduce me to everyone else," I squeezed out through pursed lips as I stared pointedly at Layla in particular.
Elliot looked partly confused, but he did it anyway. "I believe you're familiar with Chloe. She was our class president in highschool." He gestured towards the girl who's hair was dyed in purple at the tip. I nodded, though I truly remembered nothing of her. He then gestured towards Layla, looking a little uncomfortable. "I believe you're also familiar with Layla...she's uh..." He paused, seeming to not know what to say.
I grinned. "Layla?" I held my chin in thought. "I've never heard of her."
A look of relief crossed Layla's features. So she came hoping that everyone's forgotten about her? I held back a snort. "--but..." I added, "something tells me that she likes to steal." I watched in pure satisfaction as her expression changed from relief to shock then to horror.
"Steal what exactly?" Jessica asked me, holding her purse closer to her chest.
I chuckled. "Yes, Layla...what exactly do you steal?"
All eyes turned to her.
"I...I-" Her lips quivered a little as she struggled to find the right words. Her right hand found its way around her waist. It almost seemed as if she thought wrapping her arm around herself could hide her from the embarrassment...Pathetic.
"She seems to be too flustered by the question--" I looked over at Jessica and smiled. "--so let's just say you shouldn't leave your things unguarded, especially not your man--"
A hand suddenly covered my mouth, followed by a soft awkward laugh. "Don't mind her." From the voice, I could tell that it was Harry. I frowned.
"She missed her early morning coffee...that's probably why she's sprouting nonsense." He explained nicely before dragging me away as quickly as he could. I crossed my arms over my chest and allowed him to do as he wished. He won't let me go even if I scream and writhe so it's pointless to try to escape his clutches.
He dragged me until we were at a safe distance away from them. "If I knew that this would've happened, I wouldn't have let you come here with that four eyes!" He whisper yelled, finally taking his hand off my mouth and pushing me aside.
I wiped my lips and turned to him with a bored, unapologetic expression. "What else did you expect?"
He ran a hand over his face. "Can't you just..."
"Just what? Did you expect me to welcome that wench with open arms? That'll never happen because I'm not that forgiving."
We continued to bicker between ourselves until someone approached us from the left.
"What the hell was that Haley?!" The Chloe girl from before hissed, her eyes coldly staring at me.
Oh, she must have been one of Layla's henchmen in highschool as well...that's the only plausible reason for her to be going all ape on me right now.
I rolled my eyes. "That was me giving Jessica a friendly heads up."
"I'm serious, Haley! Why can't you get over what happened? It was four years ago for god sakes!"
"Four days ago...four years ago, there's no difference...It doesn't matter when it happened, the fact still remains that she was a cunning thief...still is."
"Don't you think you're being overly dramatic? You're only making a fool of yourself."
"Nathalie told me the same thing but fortunately, I put her in her place...Want me to put you in yours too?" I rose a brow.
Her glare faltered a bit, seeming a little intimidated for a second there. Realizing the slip in her composure, she cleared her throat. "After four years, Layla's finally back in Satoya. Don't mess this up for her, Haley." And with that, she walked away.
I scowled.
"She's right, I guess..." Harry agreed, reminding me of his presence. He was standing here all along and he didn't even try to defend me!? His disloyalty just keeps getting higher and higher.
"Did Layla brainwash you too?" I asked, poking him in the chest. "Everyone keeps making me out to be the bad guy, but I'm not. Layla's as sly as a fox. I bet she's only acting like she's embarrassed just to make it seem like she's the victim when she's definitely isn't. I'm the victim here!'
He was about to answer when his eyes seemed to have caught sight of someone behind me. "Over here!" He waved someone over. I turned around and spotted Katie walking towards us with two guys in tow...one being Josh and the other being the sexiest man on this freaking planet...literally! He looked so unreal that I almost thought I was seeing things. Among such outrageous looking men, he looked like a flicker of light in the darkness, that one red spot on a silk white dress, a sunflower in the midst of weeds...
I watched him, catching the way his dark black eyes wrinkled at the corner as he laughed at something Josh said. His laugh was sexy...and not to mention those broad shoulders...holy god! Where the hell has he been all my freaking life?!
"Hey Harry..." I moved closer to him and slung my arm over his shoulder so I could pull him down to my height. "Who's that hottie over there?"
Harry looked at me then back at the approaching group, an amused chuckle leaving him. "That's Layla's husband, Jason Wellow."
HUSBAND?! My eyes bulged out of their socket. "Tell me you're not serious! I'm about to have a freaking heart attack here!"
"Nah...you're about to have a jealousy attack," he corrected, barely holding in his laughter.
Ignoring his statement, I looked back over at the guy who's apparently Jason, my eyes roaming over his perfect figure once again. I shook my head in denial. This guy can never be Layla's husband, not in a million years!
