Chapter 2 Encountered a Sassy She-devil

Charles POV

Lifting my hand, I stopped my bouncers who were ready to chase after the gutsy girl. "Let her be," I said with irritation, turning away to head back to my car, and I zoomed off.

I arrived home, the earlier encounter replaying in my mind. Lost in thought, I went into the house, and as I was in my room reminiscing, Nanny Rita walked in. She had been my nanny for as long as I could remember.

"What happened?" She asked, looking anxious. "You look tense. Did you bump into a tree, dear?"

"Nanny, it's worse than that. But you know what, I'm gonna pay her back no matter what. Get me my special coffee while I go freshen up right now," I said, frustration evident in my voice, and I stormed into the bathroom.

As the water cascaded down, my mind replayed the scene with the audacious girl. The audacity she displayed only fueled my determination to make her pay for the damages to my outfit. I couldn't let her defiance go unpunished.

Nanny Rita entered the room with a steaming cup of my special coffee, a blend she knew always calmed my nerves. "Here you go, dear. Now, tell me what happened."

I took the coffee, savouring its aroma, and began recounting the encounter. "This girl ruined my suit, and she had the nerve to talk back. I won't let her get away with it. I'll make sure she pays for what she did."

Nanny Rita, ever the voice of reason, sighed. "Charles, is it really worth all this fuss? Accidents happen, and sometimes it's better to let go."

I dismissed her concern, determined to settle the score. "No, Nanny. She needs to learn a lesson. I won't be mocked and walked over."

As I finished my coffee and prepared to address the situation, little did I realize that the repercussions of this encounter would extend beyond a stained suit, setting in motion events that would challenge my perspective and redefine my priorities.

Nanny Rita left, seeing she couldn't soothe my frustration. After freshening up, I had dinner later in the night, but my agitation lingered. When the three housemaids served me, I couldn't contain my irritation.

"What is this? Are you trying to poison me with this excuse for a meal?" I bellowed, pointing at the plate in front of me.

One of the housemaids stammered, "I-I'm sorry, sir. We tried our best."

"Best? This is far from acceptable! You should be ashamed!" I yelled, my temper flaring.

Nanny Rita, sensing the escalating tension, tried to plead on their behalf. "Charles, they're doing their best. Mistakes happen. Please, let's not be too harsh."

But my frustration knew no bounds. "I won't tolerate incompetence! If they can't uphold proper etiquette, they have no place here."

Ignoring Nanny Rita's pleas, I made a rash decision. "You're all fired! Get out of my sight!"

The three housemaids, shocked and dismayed, left the dining room hastily. Nanny Rita sighed, shaking her head at my impulsive actions. "Charles, you need to calm down. Firing them was too harsh."

I dismissed her concern, still fueled by the earlier encounter. "I won't tolerate incompetence in my house. They need to learn their lesson."

Nanny Rita, with a heavy heart, continued to try to reason with me. "But dear, sometimes forgiveness is a better teacher than harsh punishment. Think about it."

"I've never admired the word 'forgiveness,' Nanny, and I never will," I retorted, my frustration evident in my tone. "They need to learn that incompetence won't be tolerated."

Nanny Rita, with a gentle yet firm expression, reminded me, "But dear, harshness won't solve everything. People make mistakes, and sometimes a little understanding goes a long way."

I scoffed, dismissing her perspective. "Understanding? I can't afford to be soft. It's a luxury I can't indulge in."

She persisted, "You've lost good help tonight. Those maids either quit due to your harshness or get fired at the slightest mistake. Soon, you won't have much left."

"Humans are incompetent, especially women," I declared, my frustration escalating. "If no one wants to work with me, I'd be glad to spend millions of dollars getting robots who are more capable."

Nanny Rita, concerned for my well-being, cautioned, "Money can't replace genuine connections and understanding. You might find efficiency in robots, but you'll lose the warmth of human interaction."

I waved off her concern, adamant in my convictions. "I don't need warmth. I need competence. If they can't meet my standards, they're replaceable."

Nanny Rita, sensing my growing frustration, sighed and said, "All is fine, dear," clearly not wanting to rile me up further.

As if on cue, the telephones in the huge living room began buzzing incessantly. Nanny Rita commented, "It must be calls from the company since they've not been able to reach you almost all day."

I grumbled, "I'll find out who bothered the house with these silly calls and get them fired first thing tomorrow when I get to the company."

Leaving her shocked by my harsh response, I headed upstairs to my room. Once in my room, I attempted to focus on finishing some pending work, but my mind kept drifting back to the encounter with the girl at the mall.

Nanny Rita, following me upstairs, knocked on the door tentatively. "Charles, it's important to address the calls. They might be urgent matters from the company."

I waved her off, irritated. "I'll deal with it tomorrow. I need some peace now."

As Nanny Rita left with a concerned expression, I couldn't escape the nagging thoughts of the audacious girl. Her defiance, the verbal clash, and her unexpected escape lingered in my mind, disrupting my attempts to concentrate.

Trying to push aside the distraction, I muttered to myself, "Why can't I forget about that girl?" Yet, despite my efforts, her image persisted, casting a shadow over my otherwise meticulously organized thoughts.

Little did I realize that this unexpected encounter had become more than just a stain on my suit – it had left an indelible mark on my mind, unraveling the composed exterior I meticulously maintained.

The night, far from bringing the desired peace, unfolded with a sense of disquiet that hinted at deeper reflections yet to come.
