What Evan said still lingered in my mind even after my class.
It kept playing inside my head like a broken plaque and I was getting deaf of it. I covered my ears but to no avail, it just can't leave me alone. I know I shouldn't think of his words deeply but there was just something that I couldn't name.
I felt a little bit nervous which was absurd. Why would I? That I can't answer.
As a result of his uncanny words, I chose to go to the park instead of home. There, I tried to get rid of it by watching kids playing and listening to their heartwarming laugh. It helped me calm my nerves at least. But that didn't last.
He was like a ghost. The idea of him kept on haunting me and it wasn't good. It just makes me want to erase his existence in this world.
Damn... Now I'm being morbid. On top of that, him being interested in me entered my mind.
I couldn't help but entertain the thought.
Honestly, I don't even know if he's interested in dating me or he's just bored and he saw me as someone whom he can play with. Unconsciously, my forehead furrowed. What am I a toy? My thoughts were cut off when I heard a familiar voice.
"Gia! Finally, I found you!" I looked up and immediately saw Kieth approaching in my direction.
I smiled and tried to act normal. I texted them to meet me after class. It's still afternoon so we still have time to meet and roam.
"Though you were all busy ..." I commented when they were near my position.
"We have free time today," Miles said with a big smile.
"Really? You all have been wandering without me. I can't even find any of you in our usual spots. You even missed classes." I raised my brows. "What happened? Is there something I don't know?" I continued asking.
Kieth sat down next to me. I looked at her curiously as I waited for her to speak. Meanwhile, Miles walked to the nearby stall to buy us food. I just nodded as a response.
On the other hand, Kieth put her arm around my shoulder which made me roll my eyes.
"You know, we realized that we're just wasting our precious time, so we decided to, you know... get serious in life?" she said. But even she was unsure of her decision in life.
I squint my eyes. Only a fool would believe her but, might as well act like one. It seems like she doesn't want me to know. I will just wait until they are ready to tell me what's going on in their life for them to act like this.
I mean, they weren't like this... I don't know what happened but I'm hoping that they will open up about it.
"So you two will stop studying?" I concluded. That's how I see it...
She focused her gaze in front. "Yes ... We have a mission to accomplish and that's to become more successful in life."
My upper lip rose up. "Really, huh?"
Rolling her eyes, she nodded. "Yup," she said softly. "We need to work for our future, Gia. We can't keep acting like a child, for our future..." She looked at me and smiled. "We're still here for you though. Once you graduate, I'll be on the stage with you."
"Of course..." My upper lip rose up. "You're all obliged to attend my graduation."
Miles arrived with a child who helped him carry the food she had bought. She handed me my share and I immediately took it from her grasp and said my thanks.
"Thank you," she mumbled at the child, then she handed him the money. "Go and buy what you want," she said. The boy ran immediately after getting the paper bill from her.
She shook her head, smiling as she sat on the other side of me. Meanwhile, I already started eating before she could even sit.
"So, how is Evan treating you?" Her question made me scoffed. Why brought him up? His name alone sent chills to my spine. Take note, it wasn't a good feeling.
I stopped chewing for a moment. They know what was going on in life because I have nothing to hide. I always tell them everything.
When they found out about Evan asking me if he could date me, I received a series of sermons from both of them which I understand.
I mean, I barely know him and even without their reminders, I wouldn't still go out with him. It's just that... my ego was kinda hurt when he told me that he wasn't interested in me on his first day then suddenly, he asked me out.
Wasn't that strange?
"Just avoid him no matter what, Gia. Who knows? He might be bad for your being and we don't want that, right? Don't be swayed by his looks or whatever he has. Don't let him bother you in any ways if you want to keep your sanity," Kieth was seriously looking at me.
"Okay?" I was unsure of my own voice.
I couldn't understand where she was coming from. I mean, that serious?
"But why are you two so serious? It's not like I'm going to give him what he wants, though. I'm trying to avoid him, okay? You two don't have to worry," I assured them.
"We're just making a point here," said Kieth. She shrugged as she sipped on the straw, drinking. Then, she gulped. "We don't want bad things to happen...
I shocked my head in confusion. They were talking nonsense. What could be that bad thing? Is he dangerous? Do they know him? They talked like they do. I'm not siding with anyone but, I felt like their words had something.
It seems like they were giving me a warning about him when I clearly said that I'm not going to involve myself with Evan for a reason that I have no business or reason to do so.
"If he tries to flirt on you again, don't get swayed," this time it was Miles.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed.
"Damn no..." My face crumpled. "That's not in my vocabulary, Miles. The only people that would make me sweep are those fictional characters. I'd be more willing to serve them than that conceited jerk, Evan Walker."
They both chuckled at my remarks. I focused my eyes in front and continued eating.
