"I've got good news baby!"
Adam was so excited after the call that when he returned I forgot all my worries. One look at his vibrant face was enough to dissolve all my doubts.
I never saw him so overly excited like this. Somehow, his bright smiling face lit up my mood. I breathlessly waited for the good news he's eager to tell me.
"I've got the Male Lead for the movie Second Chance!" His eyes were wide and round with excitement. He reached for my fingers across the table and held it firmly. I could feel his unrestrained excitement oozing from his aura. "I can't believe I got it, baby! A hundred Actors have tried to get the role but failed. I was so damn lucky that Eros Abraham's Company chose me."
I swallowed hard upon hearing the familiar name. A fleeting memory passed through my thoughts but I quickly pushed it away as fast as it arrived.
'Thank God, my daily prayers were answered.' I mumbled and felt the warmth of tears spread through my eyes.
"I'm so happy that you're one step away from your dream baby. I'm so happy." My lips trembled, my loving eyes worshipped his beautiful face.
Adam always dreamed of becoming an award-winning actor and this opportunity would help him realize his dreams. It would help him gain the recognition he deserved.
I excused myself for a while and hurriedly made my way to the powder room to freshen up.
When I looked at my reflection towards the full length mirror I expected that my mascara was smudge all over my eyes, well I wasn't mistaken. I looked like a panda.
Sighing, I reached for wet wipes inside my bag and cleared the black stains under and above my eyes. When it was over, I cast one last glance towards the mirror and made my way back to our table.
My lips were still stretched into a smile as I headed to our table only to discover Adam was gone.
No! He won't just leave without saying goodbye. A reasonable part of my brain told me and for a moment I believed it.
I sat down. My fingers tapping at the edge of the table while waiting for my boyfriend to reappear. My head anxiously darted towards the men's comfort room in hopes that Adam went there.
But minutes ticked by but he didn't reappear. The last of my hope fled out the window of the restaurant.
"Can I have your order Ma'am?" The waiter asked, appearing from nowhere.
I didn't reply, instead I asked him a question. "The guy I was with a moment ago, have you seen him?"
My fingers clasp together on top of my lap, hoping he would say something that would entirely ease my worries.
"A tall blonde met him at the door when you went inside the powder room. He hurriedly left with her in a blue sports scar."
"Are you certain it was him?" I asked in a barely audible whisper. At this point my fingers were cold as ice.
"I couldn't be mistaken. The man you're with was so tall and remarkable, I couldn't mistake him for someone else." The waiter replied sincerely.
I bit back the tears. He was right. Adam could be easily distinguished and he could be easily spotted in the crowd. His features were to markable not to be noticed.
"Thank you for the information." I rose from the chair and picked my clutch bag on top of the table. "Unfortunately my boyfriend already left and I have no reason to stay further. I'm sorry for the inconvenience I've caused."
Before he could see the tears pooling my eyes, I quickly turned away and blindly made my way towards the door. I was so preoccupied with my thoughts that I didn't quickly recognize the man walking towards my direction nor the sudden hush that fell inside the restaurant.
The heel of my stiletto got hooked on the carpeted aisle and I stumbled. But before the cold, hard floor caught me, a pair of muscular arms captured my waist.
"T-thank you..." I murmured, disoriented. Slowly, I raised my head towards my savior and a frozen pair of amber eyes held mine captive.
The embarrassment I felt was instantly replaced by shock and I found myself gasping for air.
He quickly let me go. His eyes showed not a glint of emotion nor the slightest flicker of recognition.
Why would he recognize me? It was nothing but a foolish mistake five years ago.
As if nothing happened he walked past me without saying a word.
I watch him walk away, too stunned to even move. He pulled the tall blonde into his arms and hooked his muscular arms around her waist so that no air could pass between them.
Sabrina. It was the woman's name. I saw her face in a magazine. She was a model. A stunning model that every man would do everything to date.
He smiled at her then whispered something to her ears which made her giggle.
As if doused with cold water, I snapped out of the trance and left the restaurant in a hurry. When I was finally outside, I became aware of the stabbing pain inside my chest. It felt like my heart was reaping into two.
Eros Arabraham.
Just the mention of his name still made my pulse jitter and my heart drum like crazy. It was almost five years ago since the last time I saw him but the years didn't change him at all. He looks the same but even more regal and good-looking this time.
I wasn't in love with him anymore, I told myself. The feelings I have for him faded over the past five years. I turned him down the day before graduation and that's the end of it.
I pushed Eros Abraham off my thoughts and pulled the car open then climbed inside. After tucking my seatbelt, I put the key into the ignition and the engine roared to life.
