There was a sighed, "You have my number now. Call me when you get somewhere safe. I will come to you to explain everything."
There is a long paused then the man asked, "She doesn't remember anything?" Ethan bowed his head keeping his eyes on the road, "She been having nightmares but can't place the pieces together." I closed my eyes as I tear up when the man cleared his throat, "I got to go. Call me."
The phone hung up as Ethan growled, "My mother had to be the one to hit you." I looked up at as I whispered, "I am sorry." He darted his eyes at me as tears fell. He groaned, "Fuck, Eliza. That not what I meant. I getting that this isn't your fault."
He placed his hand on my knee as he pulled into a gas station. He opened the door, "I will be right back. Don't get out of the car. I will get us something to eat." I nodded as he left the car.
I watched out the window as I placed my forehead against the window. Ethan was on his phone walking towards the car with a bag after ten minutes being inside. I tilted my head as he placed gas into the car still on the phone. I chuckled as Grace told me that he will never listen to her about that. "One of these days, he going to blow himself up being on the phone near the pump."
I laid my head back as he got into the car then sat the bag on my lap. He sighed as Ethan started the car. He sat for a few minutes before pulling off.
I wonder what he is thinking. Is he hating me more because of all this. He said he believes that this isn't my fault, but I feel like I am tearing this family apart.
His hand reached over as he opened the bag and dug into it. He handed me a sandwich as he snarled, "Eat or I will pull this car over and make you eat."
I rolled my eyes as I opened it then he reached into the bag as he pulled out a water. He placed two bottles of water into the cup holders then pulled out another sandwich.
We ate in silence then I laid my head back as I closed my eyes. The sun was disappearing as he drove.
"Fuck, Eliza wake up."
"Hold on love. I am pulling over."
"Come on, wake up. Please."
"It is okay. That right take deep breaths."
Strong arms held me close to him, "I got you, love. I got you."
"I don't hate you. I promise. I just don't know. Please wake up love."
My eyes flicker as the cold wind hit my face as Ethan held me close. I could hear him snoring. I looked up as I could see that the back window is open a little. I looked up as Ethan's eyes are closed and his lips parted a little as he breathed slowly. We are in the back seat as my head is on his shoulders.
How did I get back here? His arms held on to me tight as I realized that I am on top of him on the back seat in the middle of nowhere. His arms are wrapped around me and his legs are wrapped around mine. I feel safe in his arms. Why do I feel safe with him? His hand lifted then his fingers brushed through my hair as I looked up at him. His eyes was still closed when he whispered in a raspy voice, "Another hour then we will get back on the road. We have about two more hours to go." I nodded as I closed my eyes.
After a while I felt myself being lifted up as my eyes shot open when Ethan sat up, "Time to wake up, love." I nodded as I lifted up from his embrace. His hand went through his hair, "Still here. I got to take a piss. I will find a station where you can freshen up."
I got into the front when he ran into the woods. I laid my head against the window as I know he didn't go far from the car. I noticed that there is fresh snow on the ground when Ethan got back into the car.
He started the car then pulled back on to the road. His jaw was clenched as he drove, and his knuckles turned white on the steering wheel. Ethan cleared his throat, "The man from yesterday. Do you remember him?" I shrugged my shoulders, "He seemed familiar." He nodded as he pulled into a gas station, "Come on."
He got the key then met me outside as he walked me to the bathroom. He opened the door as he sighed, "I wait outside for you." I nodded as I whispered to him, "Thank you." His jaw tightened as his muscles twitched.
Once I was done, I washed my hands then looked at myself in the mirror. I have bags under my eyes. Fuck. I look like a zombie. I looked like I should be on the set of the Walking Dead.
There was a knock, "Eliza. Are you okay in there?" I opened the door as Ethan leaned up against the wall, "Are you okay?" I nodded to him with a small voice, "Yes, I am good. Thank you." He nodded as he handed me the keys to his car, "Start the car and I will return the bathroom key." I nodded as he walked away.
He got into the warm car when another bag went on my lap. I looked down as he pulled out some honey buns, "This is the only thing that looked like it didn't expire by the time I walked out." I gave him a small smile as I opened one of them. Ethan's eyes darted to me as he smirked, "About time you eat without me have to feed you. How did my parents get you to eat for a month?"
I shrugged my shoulders, "Feed me like a baby." He chuckled as his hand went to my knee, "Why doesn't surprise me?" He removed his hand as I instantly missed his touch.
I am getting used to him touching me. Why? He sending mixed feelings to my heart. I don't know how to feel.
