Chapter 8 She Has A Fever

Silas' voice was calm and emotionless, but Malcolm noticed that his ears were flaming scarlet.

Malcolm held back his laughter, rearranging his features into a semblance of seriousness.

"Is she that woman?" he asked.

After a long silence, Silas murmured, "Yes."

For a moment, Malcolm didn't know what to say. It took him a while to be able to form words. "What happened today?" he said softly.

Silas didn't answer him. Instead, he asked, "Will I recover from my illness?"

His voice trembled as he straightened up, his knuckles turning white where his hands gripped the armrest.

"I've told you this before. You will definitely recover."

Malcolm stopped teasing Silas. He knew how eager Silas was for recovery, and didn't want to make fun of him.

Silas' body relaxed, and the corners of his mouth curled up. His pale, handsome face turned pink.

"How long will it take?" he asked Malcolm.

Malcolm stared at Silas as he ran through the treatment in his mind.

Not getting a response for a long time, Silas tensed up again.

"How long?" he asked again.

His voice shook, anxiety marring his every note.

"I don't know exactly how long it will take, but it should be soon,"

Malcolm said as assuredly as he could.

Silas heaved a sigh of relief at that, letting loose a smile, now that he had an answer he liked.

The whole atmosphere of the room seemed to change at the shift in Silas' mood. Malcolm smiled.

"Silas, how about you try it again? Maybe you can have an erection with other women," he said cautiously.

But Silas didn't answer him for a long time. Malcolm opened his mouth to say something when his phone began to vibrate.

He pulled out his phone and walked up to the window as he answered it.

"Okay, I'll be back soon."

Malcolm hung up, his eyes straying to the darkness outside the window. He seemed to zone out for a few seconds before he recovered and turned around, saying to Silas, "I have something to attend to, so I need to leave for now. She will wake up in about three hours. Give her some light food and keep an eye on her. She might have a fever at night."

Malcolm listed out the instructions before heading out. But he stopped and turned to Silas. "If you want, you can have more contact with her. You will recover sooner if you get used to it. I'll think about the treatment after I go back home tonight. Tomorrow, I'll come and change the dressing for her."

After saying that, he left.

The door slammed shut and Silas began to impatiently tap the armrest of the chair.

It was a long time before Silas turned his chair around, an unreadable expression on his face.

He stood up and walked to the next room, opening the door to look at the sleeping woman.

He made his way to her side and reached out a trembling hand to touch Luna's face. When he was millimeters from her fair, smooth skin, he drew it back, as if shocked.

Silas gazed at her for a long time before he turned around and left the room.

He picked up his phone from the coffee table and walked to the French windows.

Gazing at the stars that littered the dark night sky, he turned the phone in his hand, deep in thought.

A while later, he dialed a number.

"It's time to take action against the Ruan family."

Once he ended the call, Silas changed into his sportswear and went to the gym.

There was a party today, which was why he had taken his medicine.

But Luna had tantalized him. A lot.

Silas ran like a madman on the treadmill for 2 hours, wiping the sweat trickling down his neck from time to time and sighing, finally feeling comfortable in his body.

Gasping for breath, he turned off the treadmill, picked up the bottle of water beside him, and drank a few mouthfuls before calming down.

Eighteen years had passed. He had thought that he would have to wear gloves for the rest of his life. But Luna had then appeared in his life like a burst of fireworks.

She had appeared suddenly, but had brought him change and luck-two things he had never thought he would have.

He took a shower before having dinner served to him by the staff. Full and content, he then pushed open the door of the next room again.

Luna was still sleeping soundly.

Silas made his way to her side and found that her face was flushed. She was frowning in her sleep, obviously uncomfortable.

He became worried and reached out to touch her forehead. He didn't feel any warmth but soon realized that he was still wearing gloves.

He pulled them off and put his hand back on Luna's forehead.

As soon as he did so, his stomach began to surge. Silas bit his lip and endured the discomfort. It was then that he felt the heat of her body.

She had a fever!

He looked down at the sleeping woman, his lips pursed, wondering what to do.

He stood there in a daze, his palm still on her forehead.

Malcolm had said before leaving that Luna might have a fever.

But Silas had never taken care of anyone in his life.

And now, he had to take care of woman with a raging fever!

"Owen..."

Luna's whisper brought Silas back to the present. He frowned and bent down, trying to hear what she was saying.

"Owen... I feel so uncomfortable..."

Silas froze and straightened up. His eyes were now burning with anger.

How could she call someone else's name when she was in his bed?

Silas turned around huffily, but didn't leave.

Luna, in her feverish haze, stretched out a hand and grabbed his, putting it to her face and nuzzling against it.

Silas was disgusted. He pulled back his hand and rushed to the bathroom.

He washed his hands obsessively, and as he looked down at them and the way they trembled, he began to doubt what Malcolm had said before.

It took some time but Silas composed himself and walked out of the bathroom. He went to the living room, opened a drawer, pulled out some antipyretics, and poured a glass of water. He then braced himself for what was about to transpire and walked into the bedroom.

He didn't want to hear what Luna was murmuring anymore. He put down the medicine and the water on the bedside table, readjusted her position so that she was now leaning against the headboard, and coaxed her to open her mouth so that he could put the medicine in.

He then grabbed Luna's chin and poured some water into her mouth.

She began to cough. Huge, wracking ones. Her arms flailed, sending the glass flying and shattering against the wall.

Fragments of glass winked up from the black carpet, glinting under the light like stars in the night sky.
