Chapter 6 A Thorn In Her Heart

In Braydon's villa, his assistant was reporting to him regarding his investigation.

Upon hearing the report, he gloomily reached for a cigarette and lit it.

"Mr. Huo, Miss Wen has Rh-negative blood, which is extremely rare. Very few kidneys will be a match for her. We have searched all over J City, and only Joyce is the only suitable donor."

After Braydon took a long drag from his cigarette, the nicotine calmed him down somewhat. Finally, he asked in a low voice, "Joyce is the only suitable donor? Is she so special that the whole J City will collapse without her?"

Braydon's harsh words sent a shiver down the assistant's spine and he broke into a cold sweat. Lowering his head, he said, "No, Mr. Huo, that's not what I meant."

The smoke veiled his face, but the crease between his brows grew more and more defined with each passing second. "Continue the search. I don't believe there's only one suitable kidney donor in this huge city."

"Yes, sir." The assistant turned around and headed for the door but then stopped abruptly. "Miss Wen," he greeted politely.

Upon the mention of that name, Braydon immediately snuffed out the cigarette and threw it into the ashtray. He rushed over to swing open the window, allowing the smoke to escape more quickly.

"Braydon."

As soon as the window was opened, a weak voice sounded from behind him.

He turned around and saw Maranda Wen standing at the door.

Her long silky hair hung over her shoulders. It was the middle of summer, yet she was draped in an oversized cotton coat, making her look even more frail.

Her small face was as big as his palm, with delicate eyes and sweet dimples. She bore a similar resemblance to Joyce, but she was much more lovable than her.

In addition, her face was extremely pale, as though it wanted to show to the world that she was very sick and weak. She was as fragile as a porcelain doll.

"It's already twelve o'clock. Why aren't you in bed?"

She smiled at him. "I slept in until noon this morning, so I'm wide awake now."

He strode over, gently took her hand and squeezed it. "Are your clothes warm enough? Your hands are freezing."

Shaking her head gently, Maranda answered, "Yeah, don't worry. I have a sweater on under my down jacket. I even think it's a bit too thick."

He led her to the sofa and they sat down, with the fragile woman in his arms. "It's freezing at night, you can't risk catching a cold. You'd better put on warmer clothes."

Maranda nodded obediently. She looked up at him and said, "Braydon, I just overheard your conversation with your assistant. Is it really that difficult to find a kidney donor?"

She saw her reflection in his deep, dark eyes. In a low voice, she continued, "If Rh-negative blood is that rare, then we can give up the chase. With you by my side, I'm more than happy, and I don't want to be greedy. Even though I won't live that long, I don't want anything more than what we have."

Braydon gently put his finger on her lips. "Don't talk like that." Trust me, I will help you find a kidney donor and you will recover. We still have a long and happy life ahead of us."

With his forehead against hers, she said, "Braydon, tomorrow I'm going to the hospital for a reexamination. Are you free? Then, after that, I want you to go to the M Amusement Park with me. Let's let loose for a bit."

Unbeknownst to her, the Huo Group was going to sign a contract worth tens of millions with the Lin Group tomorrow.

However, Braydon didn't hesitate in the slightest. "I'll go with you. As long as you want me to be with you, I will always be free."
