Chapter 9 Your Lips Are So Sweet

When their lips brushed against each other, the cool touch of his lips made Nicole gasp.

Her eyes widened instantly as she felt petrified.

Damon held the back of her head securely and deepened the kiss.

It had been three years.

Her lips were as sweet as they were three years ago. Their touch made him intoxicated. His hand held her slender waist tight.

"Mm..."

Nicole came back to her senses shortly and pushed him in a hurry while hastily bit on his lips. The suddenness of the bite made Damon loosen his grip on her. Taking the opportunity quickly, she quickly got up.

Instinctively, her hand reached her swollen lips as she gave them a rub.

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Damon's mouth as he said, "Miss Qiao, your lips are so sweet."

Nicole was flabbergasted by his response. Then, she turned and searched for the water glass. Noticing it, she grabbed it and took a big gulp of water.

Damon said casually, "Remember to spit it out."

Stunned, she took two steps back from him and hastily swallowed the water and spurted.

She choked on the water and coughed.

When she calmed down a few minutes later, Damon left with the boy in his arms.

She escorted the two of them downstairs. Damon got into the car with the kid and drove away. She stared at the way the car went and didn't look away until it disappeared from her sight.

"I didn't expect you'd hook up with another man soon after my brother-in-law had a car accident." Nicole got startled at the sudden voice and glanced at the direction it came from. A figure walked out from behind a tree while looking at Nicole with disdain.

"Sofia?"

Sofia Qiao was Nicole's half-sister; they had the same mother. She had called Nicole a few days ago and told her that she would come to look for a job while staying with her. She didn't expect to see Sofia here.

Nicole brought her upstairs.

Once they entered in Nicole's apartment, Sofia said in disgust, "Why does it smell like a stinky rat? How can you live in such a stinky apartment?

I thought I'd live a good life after you married the rich man.

But it turns out you are a jinx. Your father and your son are dead. Your husband also had a car accident. Even I have to live in such a slum with you!"

Sofia's every word stabbed through Nicole's heart, making it bleed in pain.

Nicole's face paled while her hands trembled holding the glass. She couldn't keep it steady. "If you don't want to live here, you can just leave!"

"I wish!" Sofia went ahead and looked through Nicole's bag.

"What are you doing?"

"You just asked me to leave. So, I need money." Sofia slapped Nicole's hand away as she tried to take her bag from Sofia. She found Nicole's wallet and took out all the cash in it. Counting the money in disgust, she asked, "Is that all?"

Nicole's chest heaved up and down out of indignation. She clenched her fists and reproached Sofia, "Sofia, give my money back!"

The Mo family had already stopped paying for her mother's medical expenses in the mental hospital. So, Nicole needed money to pay for it at any time.

"Mom asked you to take care of me, but you have been ignoring me since she went to the mental hospital. It's just a few hundred dollars. Why are you doing this to me?" Sofia jerked her hand and threw the money on Nicole's face. "Don't tell others that you are my sister. It's so embarrassing."

She didn't want to live in such a pathetic house with Nicole. So, she stomped out of the apartment and slammed the door with a loud bang.

Nicole stood there alone in silence for a few seconds. She felt numb and extremely helpless. Darkness seemed to be closing in on her which she had never felt before.

She slowly squatted down, held the sofa with one of her hands and picked up the money on the floor one by one.

Holding the few notes, she leaned against the corner of the wall and hugged her legs close to her chest. Uncontrollable tears streamed down her face in silence.

After a while, she finally wiped her tears and stood up with determination.

'Life can't crush me. I will definitely get over it, and Thomas will make it.'
