Chapter 5 His Ruthlessness

"You know full well I would never touch any woman again aside from Kate An," John said, his voice dangerously low. His eyes had grown hard, his tone so chilly that it was like the temperature in the room had dropped. Mike fought the urge to shiver.

Kate An?

She had been dead for five years!

Was John still holding out for her? Damn!

Tasha stopped herself from scoffing loudly after hearing John's words. She kept her temper in check and smiled tightly. "Mr. Gong, did I hear that wrong? You must mean Helen An, right? If my memory serves me right, Kate An died five years ago, and you got engaged to Helen An less than two months after her death," she said ironically.

John snapped to attention at that. "How did you know that?" he demanded, his face twitching.

Tasha shrugged. "I kept in touch with the local news even when I was abroad." She sneered sarcastically at him. "I must say, the reports had greatly exaggerated your ruthlessness."

John clenched his fists at that, his face turning dark. Mike glanced at his friend fearfully, knowing he was just about ready to lose it.

John became like this every time Kate was mentioned. His circle had long learned not to mention her at all.

Mike hurriedly stood in front of Tasha, afraid John really would end up killing her soon if he blew up. "Ignore it, John. She knows nothing," Mike warned, slowly.

John, however, continued staring daggers at Tasha, his breathing becoming ragged.

His ruthlessness?!

The nerve of this ignorant woman!

John was so incensed he simply stormed out of the room.

Tasha stared at his retreating figure, feeling a fresh round of hurt.

He really had nothing to say in his defense.

Did this mean he really was involved in her sister's attempt to murder her five years ago?

The memories now came unbidden to her mind.

She had only survived being pushed into the sea because she was lucky enough to have been saved by Cohen Su, the CEO of the S Group. Already aware she was pregnant at the time, her first instinct as soon as she recovered was, of course, to run to John, her fiance back then. But she soon learned, to her horror, that John had already replaced her with Helen as his fiancee.

She had actually felt more betrayed by John than by Helen. After all, he had always claimed he loved her above all else. But if that were true, how could he be already engaged to another in less than two months after her death? That woman was none other than her own sister and attempted murderer?

Unable to return to the An Family or the Gong Family, she had no other recourse but to seek refuge with the S Group. The S Group made it possible not only for her to get full reconstructive surgery on her face, but for her to also give birth to her baby without any problems.

The only reason she came back now was to put Helen to justice, and to find out if John really had anything to do with the attempt on her life. Because if he did, she would be making sure that both he and Helen would end up behind bars for the rest of their lives.

After John left, Mike breathed a sigh of relief. He called to Felix to unchain Tasha.

As Tasha massaged her wrists, Mike, feeling awkward and sorry, tried to ease the tension by teasing her.

"You want me to carry you to the car?" "No, thanks," Tasha responded, without even looking up. She knew just how much of a playboy Mike was. She would never give him the time of day.

Mike, however, had no intentions to pursue Tasha. He recognized that she was a stunning woman, of course, but in his heart, Luna was far more beautiful. Besides, he was certain it wouldn't go over well with Luna if he flirted with her friends.

Once she had collected herself, Tasha looked up at Felix coolly. "When you can, ask your CEO if he didn't go home all night after getting drunk five years ago."

A startled look crossed Felix's face. He chose to say nothing.

Tasha allowed Mike to drive her home shortly after.

Throughout the ride, Tasha could feel a chill in her bones. Noticing her condition, Mike offered her his blazer for warmth several times, but she refused.

The car finally reached the apartment building. Tasha pushed the door open and got out of the car.

Before she even got far, however, Mike called out to her. "Tasha?" "Yes?" She looked back at Mike impassively.
