Chapter 4 Such A Mother-in-law (Part Two)

As they went downstairs, Henry heard them and turned around. He asked, "Are you going out?" His eyes shot at Charles like radar.

In fact, it wasn't Henry's fault to be strict with his grandson. Charles's father, Kevin Mu, was born when the Makino Group was just established. He was too busy to teach his son well, and his wife spoiled the son, which led to Kevin Mu's poor development.

Henry had lost hope in his son Kevin Mu, and his daughter-in-law only cared about herself. So, no matter what happened, Henry couldn't let Charles, his only grandson, step into Kevin Mu's old path.

"I want to go to the cinema with her." Charles told that lie in a calm voice, which attracted Diana's attention.

'It turns out that I underestimated you. You will even lie to your grandfather for the sake of Anne, ' she thought.

However, Charles's trick worked. Henry just looked at the young couple holding hands intimately, and he urged, "Go ahead. It's not good for young people to stay at home all day long. Charles, you are a man. You should take care of Diana."

"Yes, Grandpa." Charles grabbed Diana's hand and hurried away, as if he was afraid that Henry would go back on his words.

Looking at his anxious face, Henry laughed and scolded, "This young man!"

As soon as they were out of the neighborhood, Charles stopped his car at the side of the road. Seeing him get out of the car, Diana was puzzled. "What are you doing? Aren't you in a hurry to send Anne to the hospital? Why did you stop the car?"

To her surprise, after getting out of the car, Charles went to the passenger seat and opened the door, pulling Diana out.

'Are you kicking down the ladder?' Being pulled by him, Diana staggered and she looked unwell.

"Anne will be unhappy to see you," Charles explained.

He only cared about Anne Liu. Did his wife mean nothing to him? How could he leave her on the road in the middle of the night? Crossing her arms, Diana asked, "Where do you want me to go at this late hour?"

Charles opened the door of the passenger seat again. Diana thought his conscience had come back to him, but she was shocked to see him reach for his wallet and draw out some money. "You can stay in any hotel for one night. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

'Bastard!' Diana put the money back and asked, "Charles Mu! Is this all I mean to you? Do you really think that I need your money?"

Then she saw a mocking expression on his face.

Diana was speechless.

Indeed, why should she think so highly of herself? Financial necessity had driven her into a marriage with the Mu clan. She tried with all of her heart not to disappoint Henry's expectations of her. With the money in her pocket was given to her by Henry, she actually needed any job.

"You can leave now!" Lowering her head dejectedly, Diana said, "Grandpa gives me living expenses every month. Besides, I still have the salary from the Edgar College. I will hide it from Grandpa. I won't expose it."

Seeing this, Charles's heart softened for a moment, but his concern for his mistress prevailed. He went back into the car and drove away.

The sound of the sports car was so harsh on the quiet night. Diana didn't raise her head. She kicked the small stones on the road in a desultory manner, and tears rolled down her face uncontrollably.

"Diana?"

When she heard someone call her name, she raised her head. That voice was so soft and magnetic.

Diana saw a handsome face looking at her with concern.

"Uncle!" Diana wiped her tears away and forced a smile. "Didn't you say that you would return home tomorrow?"

The man was Rock Mu, the adopted son of the Mu clan. Before Diana married into the Mu clan, they even went to the same school. He then had gone to Europe on behalf of the Makino Group to inspect the market half a month ago.

"Why are you here?" Holding Diana's shoulder, Rock Mu didn't let her change the topic. "I saw Charles's car pass just now. Has he mistreated you again?"

Charles had a little girlfriend who had been in love with him for three years. Rock Mu knew all about it, and it angered him.

Charles didn't care about his wife, Diana, the woman whom Rock Mu cared for. How could he not be angry?

Rock Mu could see the worth of Diana. He regarded her as a treasure, but he saw her being trampled on without dignity. How could he not feel pity for her?

Now he was full of regret. Why hadn't he plucked up the courage to pursue her, and why did he let her go so easily?

Charles, that bastard, had no idea what kind of precious treasure he had!

At that moment, the coldness in Rock Mu's eyes was like an ice storm, and the eagerness in his eyes was as hot as fire. Diana was not obtuse, and she could sense something unusual. She broke free from his grip and pretended to be unconcerned. "Uncle, you haven't found me an aunt yet, so you can't understand the relationship between us. Couples often have quarrels. Charles is angry now, but he will apologize to me when he comes back."

Suddenly, Rock Mu's strength seemed to drain away, and his face turned pale.

Even if he knew that what Diana said was untrue and that Charles would never come back to her, she was still right about one thing. This was a matter between her and Charles, and he, the nominal uncle, had no right to ask.

Seeing the dejection on his face, Diana wanted to say something to console him. However, after a second thought, she stopped herself. She knew that she couldn't reveal anything to him. She had been married. No matter how indifferent Charles was to her, Henry really treated her as his granddaughter. If there was ever any scandal about Diana and Rock Mu, Henry would be devastated, and the Mu clan couldn't afford to lose face.

"Uncle, you've been busy all day. Go home and have a rest." Diana smiled and added, "I have something else to do, so I won't go home. Don't tell Grandpa when you go back, or he will be worried."

Rock Mu looked around. There was no bus stop or taxi in that rich neighborhood. How could she go out?

"Let's go. I'll drive you," Rock Mu said. Then he walked promptly to his car.

Considering the late hour, Diana had to follow him.
