Chapter 6 Meet Again, Looking At Each Other From Closely

"Didn't you hear what I said? Which department are you in? Don't you know that you aren't allowed to be here?"

His tone was so cold and icy that it send shivers through her body.

Sharon turned around and upon looking down immediately, she caught a pair of shiny high-end shoes before she said, "I'm sorry. I took the wrong elevator and ended up here by accident. I was just appreciating the view from up here so I decided to enjoy it for a few more minutes. I'll leave right away."

The moment she walked past him and her nose recognized the scent of his cologne, Sharon stopped and her heart started pounded inside her chest. A tiny gasp escaped her lips as her long eyelashes trembled softly.

She raised her head slowly, eyes brushing over his expensive suit and then his dark gray striped before they finally stopped at his face. Without a conscious thought, she clenched her fists and her eyes widened with surprise.

"It's you!" The certainty in his voice caught her off guard.

Sharon struggled to hide her nervousness, responding to the man with some hesitance. "I'm sorry. Do you know me?"

Did he finally recognize her?

"You were the one in front of the Sun Bar last night, right?"

The man rested his hands on his hips, gazing down at her with eyes that could burn a hole through her face.

'I see.' Sharon concluded to herself as the pain of loss surged in the bottom of her heart like the tides.

The man frowned and just as he was about to open his mouth to say something, he was interrupted by the ringing of his cellphone.

When he fished out his cellphone from his pocket and saw who was calling, the lines of his face softened, transforming his frown into a smile. It was the same smile that took Sharon back to that night many years ago.

She stared blankly at him, forgetting where she was and forgetting the fact that she was just leaving. It was as if her mind was possessed by the tall figure standing before her eyes.

"In the company... No... The rooftop... When... All right..."

The man's voice simmered down to a level that wasn't as intimidating as before. Now, his voice resembled the spring breeze in March, warm and uplifting.

"Really... Where... Okay... I'll come over then..."

As Sharon stared at his side profile, a bitter smile appeared on her face as she realized that he was on the phone with his beloved.

Why else would his demeanor change from harsh to gentle like the flip of a switch?

Suddenly, a feeling of clarity hit Sharon.

Everything became very clear and obvious.

For a moment, she thought he was having difficulty placing her in his mind, but it was now painfully clear to her that he didn't care at all.

Perhaps, it was because he never cared about what they had and naturally, he forgot everything.

Suppressing the pain in her heart, she slowly turned around and got in the elevator. Just before the elevator doors slid shut, she only had time to see the pair of cold eyes on his handsome face.

As soon as the door closed, Sharon fell to her knees and covered her mouth with her hands, the tears finally bursting forth from her eyes.

She felt like a fool for taking what the man took as a joke so seriously.

It was foolish of her to forget that a few years was enough to change everything.

If anyone was to blame for the heartache, it was her. She never should have fallen in love with such a man.

Could it be fate? Did fate have something in store for the both of them?

She had only been back for a few days and just in that time she had run into him twice in a row. Could this be fate?

But why did she feel an ocean's distance between them even though he was just standing at arm's length? Where was fate then?

He was hardly a few steps away from her, but then why did she feel like he was tens of thousands of feet away.

Why did he feel so unreachable to her?

Another three days passed rather peacefully.

With her arms crossed over her chest, Sharon stood by the French window and looked down at the heavy traffic on the street.

Her face was as pale as snow and the presence of melancholy was clear in the faint weariness of her eyes.

The ringing of her phone pulled her attention towards the coffee table as she walked over and noticed the unknown number on the screen.

"Hello, who's this?

Really?" Instead of waiting for the person on the other end of the line to finish, Sharon quickly added, "Okay, thank you. I will be there on time."

After hanging up the phone, Sharon's face produced a bright smile.

Then she quickly pressed a series of numbers on the phone and said, "Hello, are you busy? I'll treat you to dinner after work.

No, I have some good news I want to tell you. But, I think you already know what this is about. Okay, see you in the evening."

As soon as Sharon hung up, she went back to the living room and tidied her clothes before taking her bag and walking out.

As she was walking by herself on the street, she may have appeared lonely, but she was in a good mood.

When she came to a fork in the road, she contemplated for a while, but followed her instincts and took the road leading to the front.

It was a sunlit day of late spring, and the sky held a soft blue glow. The white wisps trailed above and the late spring sun brought a welcoming warmth that coated her as good as caramel over a harvest apple.

She noticed a park bench not too far away and decided to take a seat there.

As she sat on the long wooden bench, Sharon rested her back and relaxed her nerves. She broke away from her thoughts to admire the flowers, to sense their aromas, to be in the moment with their transient beauty.

For a moment she closed her eyes and let the sunlight wash over her face.

"Hey, it's you!" Suddenly, the sound of a surprised voice entered to her ears.

When Sharon opened her eyes, a pretty and adorable face came into her sight to which she quickly responded, "It's you!"

What followed next was silence as the two women smiled at each other as if their silence was enough to communicate their thoughts.

"I wonder why we keep seeing each other in unexpected places!"

She sat right next to Sharon, unable to hide the joy, and her eyes lit up before she answered,

"Yes, it must be fate." Sharon looked at her with a faint smile.

The two of them had met by accident.

A few days ago, when she was rushing out of the Ye Group, she bumped into this person who was running inside the building in a hurry. The unexpected collision almost caused Sharon to fall down, but fortunately, she managed to find her balance again.

The woman was clearly shocked as well, but she kept apologizing as she left in a hurry. This was the last place they both expected to see each other again.

"I'm so sorry about the other day. My alarm clock decided to die on me that morning and I was already running late. I had a really important job interview and I didn't stop to help you. I'm really sorry." The woman scratched her head and explained shyly.

"Was the interview for a job at the Ye Group?" Sharon should have guessed it earlier.

The woman nodded, "Yes. The Ye Group is a very famous company. I've been looking forward to working for them for a very long time."

As she spoke about the Ye Group, the woman looked more yearning and a little dreamy, which wasn't unexpected for a young girl like her.

"Then..."

"Well, I just received a call from the Ye Group informing me that I got the job. I was so happy that I almost screamed. I'm just so excited."

"What a coincidence! Me too."

"Ah! Really?"

With a faint smile on her face, Sharon looked at her happy face and said, "Really!"

"Then we will be colleagues from now on," the woman added.

"Yes, you are right!"

"Oh my God! I really can't believe that God blessed with me so much luck today. Not only did I get the job, I also got to meet my colleague!"
