Chapter 7 Being Set Up

Sara raised her head and looked at Alice with an indulgent smile. "There's no point in telling me about it. Jacob is not as good as you think. I know you like him and I couldn't care less."

Her words stung Alice where it hurt her the most. Sara was determined not to bow down to the likes of her.

All of a sudden, Alice burst into laughter, approaching Sara. She whispered in her ear, "Even if you like Jacob, he doesn't like you at all. Unfortunately, you don't stand a chance. So quit being whiny and jealous."

Saying that, she looked at Sara and gave her a smug smile.

Sara could barely hold her smile any longer, but she reminded herself not to lose her cool, for she would lose if she did.

She looked up at Alice and said with a sneer, "How can you be so sure that I don't stand a chance? Don't forget that I'm still his legitimate wife. We've been married for four years. Do you really think nothing happened between us during that time?"

Just like Sara had imagined, as soon as she finished her words, Alice's expression changed. "You-" She was about to say something, but someone interrupted her.

"Miss Sara, our CEO has requested you to come to the conference room," the girl with the ponytail said. She seemed stunned to see Alice, but then she smiled politely at Sara and escorted her to the conference room.

When Sara walked past, Alice felt as though her heart had been ripped into pieces. Sara walked triumphantly like she'd just won a battle.

Mr. Walter was in the conference room, but Jacob wasn't there.

"Miss Sara, I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting. Let's talk about this specific cooperation plan first. Our president is currently busy. He will join us later," Mr. Walter said.

He was a very polite man. Since he still didn't know of Sara and Jacob's divorce, he showed great kindness towards her.

Without making conventional remarks, Sara got straight to the point and showed her strategy to everyone present there. "The following plan is for a project in which our company wants to collaborate with your company. I'll introduce the specific content to you shortly," she said confidently.

Sara was a hard working woman, and the people around looked at her with admiration. They had been skeptical about this plan at first, and thought she must be playing tricks on them, but watching her talk with great confidence inspired them.

After she was done with the presentation, Sara was exhausted.

"Ma'am, I..." When Mr. Walter saw that everyone had left the conference room, he walked up to Sara and tried to get on her good side.

With a wave of her hand, Sara said, "Just call me Sara. You may go now. Don't disturb me. I know this place like the back of my hand."

In the past, she had often come to the company with Jacob, to show everyone how much they "loved" each other.

Mr. Walter hesitated for a moment before he stepped out of the room.

Then, Sara neatly arranged the documents in order.

After she was done, she leaned against the chair in the conference room, completely exhausted. Back then, Jacob had used to appreciate her efforts so much. He had even liked watching her work. But now, no one seemed to care.

No matter what, Sara felt she had to be professional when she dealt with Jacob. After being married to him for four years, she knew that he was very particular about work. She doubted if he would even accept the plan she'd devised. She had no clue about what to do in case he deliberately tried to make things difficult for her.

With that thought, Sara stood up and walked out of the conference room. To her annoyance, she saw Alice standing there with a mischievous smile, holding a coffee mug in her hand.

Sara loathed Alice. She hated the fact that as long as she transacted business with Jacob's company, she'd have to face Alice every time she went there.

Alice walked up to her and batted her eyelashes.

Although it was hard for her, Sara knew she had to ignore her. Entertaining Alice would only make her lose her cool. It was obvious that Alice would stop at nothing to provoke her.

"Miss Sara, looks like you're very busy today. Would you like some coffee?" Alice asked, stopping in front of her. She wasn't as friendly as she pretended to be earlier; now, her tone seemed more distant. No one could tell what plans she had in mind, but it was evident that she hated Sara just as much as Sara hated her.

Alice had two reasons for hating Sara. One was because she was Jacob's wife. The other reason was because she'd shared a bed with him for the past four years. Even though they'd both constantly asserted that they had no feelings for each other, Alice knew that something might have sparked between them in those years they had stayed together.

Even if there weren't any feelings between them, staying married to someone for four years wasn't something to be taken lightly.

Sara gave her an icy stare and said, "Miss Alice, you don't seem to be working at all. You even had time to make yourself a cup of coffee."

Alice didn't have any position in the company, so of course she had no work. In fact, she thought that she was entitled to her free time. That way, she could make sure that Jacob never talked to other women.

In her eyes, Sara was her main rival, and she had to make sure that Sara wouldn't sink her claws into Jacob.

"Well, do you want to have some?" Alice asked again, holding out the coffee mug.

Sara raised her eyebrows. "No, I don't take coffee when I'm working.

Jacob doesn't like hot coffee, either. He prefers iced coffee."

The one thing that Alice regretted the most in her life was being away from Jacob all these years. Four years was a long time and Jacob was a completely different person now. She didn't know that he preferred iced coffee over hot coffee now. And she hated the fact that Sara knew more about him than she did.

Seeing all this, how could Alice not feel jealous?

She'd prepared the coffee specially for him, and now, her efforts were in vain. Even if she couldn't do much, she wanted to please him in the small ways that she could.

But now, she felt powerless.

With a vicious stare, she said coldly, "Miss Sara, you surely have paid a lot of attention to what he likes and what he doesn't. But then, what's the point of all that if he won't even take another look at you? After all, I'm the one he loves. Otherwise, he wouldn't have left you for me, right? So, even if you know what he likes or dislikes, it's all useless. You lost, just accept it."

Driven mad by her jealousy, Alice said something that hurt Sara's feelings.

Sara's eyes were fixed on the bundle of documents in her hand. She continued to walk forward and said, "Yes, I know it's useless. Like you said, you've won and I've lost. There's no need to rub it in my face... Unless, you're feeling too insecure to leave me be?"

As Sara walked past her, Alice quickly moved her hand, splashing the hot coffee all over herself.

Stunned, Sara stopped.

Alice glanced at her stained white dress. "Oops! I'm sorry, I just couldn't bear to look at your smug face. Ever since I was a child, no one has dared to take what's mine and gotten away with it,"

she whispered in a low voice. When she saw someone walking past, she immediately bowed her head down.

Sara looked at her, puzzled. Then, Alice lifted her head and looked at her with tears in her eyes as she cried, "Miss Sara, what have I done wrong? I know you don't like me, but you can't do this to me!"

She looked so upset that her act almost seemed real.

"What are you even talking about?" Sara asked with a frown. She hadn't even done anything to her and this woman was already crying?

'Is she trying to set me up?' Sara wondered. Then, a sarcastic smile appeared on her face. 'Is this the woman that Jacob was in love with for the past few years? Was she his first love? Couldn't he have done any better?'

"What's the matter?" an employee asked, rushing over to them. She already knew who Sara was, and she also knew that Alice was the one with their CEO these days. Compared to Sara, Alice was more emotionally intelligent and was capable of manipulating those around her very well.
