Chapter 5 How Dare You

Even though she was in such an embarrassing situation, she didn't seem any less beautiful than her usual self. Rachel was ever so charming that no one could take their eyes off of her for even a moment.

Nancy ground her teeth in anger. She glared at Rachel, and then sneered, "Well, if she isn't good enough to teach you a lesson, then I will do it on behalf of Mother!"

But before she could lay a finger on Rachel, Nancy heard a cold voice from behind.

"How dare you!"

Several men in black suits walked towards the women through the pouring rain. The assistant cautiously held the umbrella over Clark's head. Clark stopped and threw a cold glance at Vivian, who was still on the ground. His gaze was so sharp that she felt frozen to the spot.

"Clark!" Nancy said, surprised by his sudden appearance. "Why are you here? Did you come to see me?"

But Clark ignored her and walked to Rachel, who was still kneeling on the ground, He stopped in front of her and looked at the group of women surrounding her. "If anyone dares to lay a finger on someone from the Ji Family, they must be willing to face the wrath of the entire Ji Group," he said coldly.

The women were stunned, especially Vivian, who was still on the ground. Hearing his words, she turned pale in fear.

"Clark, what do you mean?" Nancy asked, forcing a smile. "I think you have misunderstood the situation. We were just playing around. In fact, I was about to ask my mother to forgive my sister for-"

She stopped, seeing the revulsion in Clark's eyes. It was then that she realized that he had really meant what he had said.

"How could you do this to me, Clark? Y-you've always been nice to me! You kept me by your side as your woman. Then, why? Why are you treating me like this now?" Nancy cried, tears streaming down her cheeks, and then pointed fiercely at Rachel. "Is it because this tramp seduced you? Are you being forced to take responsibility for her? Don't worry. I-"

Clark interrupted impatiently, "I don't like to repeat what I've already made clear. If you dare offend my fiancee again, Nancy, I will not forgive it."

Nancy was shocked by his indifference towards her and stood rooted to the spot. Finally, she ran into the house, covering her face in shame.

The other women were intimidated by Clark's powerful aura and didn't even dare to look up at him. They now regretted agreeing to meet Nancy so early in the morning.

If they had known that Rachel was Clark's fiancee, they would not have dared to disrespect her.

"Get out of my sight!"

Clark growled, furrowing his eyebrows at them. The frightened ladies ran to their cars and drove away in a frenzy.

"Get up," Clark ordered, looking at the woman on the ground.

With her back to him, Rachel was still kneeling on the wet ground in silence, and had no intention of standing up.

A hint of anger flashed through Clark's eyes. "You didn't seem this obedient a moment before while you were busy breaking that woman's face."

He had felt very uncomfortable when he saw her being bullied by the others.

When Vivian was about to beat Rachel, his heart had skipped a beat.

But Rachel's reaction made his eyes light up again.

Rachel bit her lower lip, and her voice was weak when she spoke. "Mr. Clark, I really appreciate your help earlier, but this is my personal affair. Please don't interfere."

Her soft, but stubborn words shocked the assistant who was standing behind Clark. He thought, 'What an ungrateful woman! Is she trying to piss off Mr. Clark?'

But to his surprise, Clark didn't turn around or walk away angrily. His face stiffened, but he didn't move. He said in a low tone, "Don't try to be a hero."

The cold raindrops falling on Rachel stopped suddenly. She looked up and saw an umbrella over her head.

Her lips opened slightly in surprise when she saw the man's delicate chin and indifferent lips. His cold gaze was fixed on her.

He stood motionless next to her, silently holding the umbrella for her.

It was sorrowfully warm-though sad, the duo emitted a strange aura filled with a sliver of hope.

From her window, Nancy stared angrily at the two of them until she heard footsteps coming from behind her. She turned around and sobbed, "Mom! Why would Clark want to marry that bitch? How did this happen? I am the one who should be his wife!"

Nancy looked out of the window again. Teresa, following Nancy's gaze, frowned at the pair. Then, she scolded her daughter, "Look at yourself! Clean up quickly. How do you hope to take Clark back looking like this?"

Stunned, Nancy turned to her mother and asked, "Mom! Are you saying that I still have a chance with him?"

Teresa's lips curved up and she said with a sneer, "Rachel will not be able to marry him without the permission of her parents. I could make her kneel in the rain just for the sake of a servant. Imagine all the other things I can make her do."

The daughter of the man she hated the most did not deserve to live a happy life. Rachel was fated to live in pain for the rest of her life.

The rain gradually stopped.

Rachel's body trembled. Clark could even hear her breath become heavier and uneven.

He frowned at her weak face and noticed her reddened cheeks.

"If you continue this facade, you will pass out from a fever. Are you sure you want to stay like this any longer?" Clark asked in an indifferent tone.

"The rain hasn't stopped," Rachel replied stubbornly. Her voice was feeble and raspy.

"Damn it!" he cursed in a low voice. Then he walked up to her and tried to pull her up. "Stop this now! Get up!"

Rachel had been kneeling in the rain for a whole day and a night. She was almost unconscious, but still stubbornly knelt on the ground and repeated her words over and over again, "The rain has not stopped."

Clark was engulfed in anger and disappointment. He thought to himself, 'What on earth is this woman trying to accomplish?'

At that moment, the front door opened slowly.

One of Teresa's servants walked up to them and respectfully bowed to Clark. Then, she put on a fake smile and said to Rachel, "Miss Rachel, your mother said that since the rain has stopped, you are released from your punishment. Now that you have realized your mistake, you may go back to your room and rest. If this continues for too long, some people may assume that we treat you badly here."

The servant gave Rachel a cold look, signaling that she was not allowed to tell Clark the truth.
