Chapter 8 A Happy Scene

The next day, Consuela didn't get up until very late. Linda knocked on her door once to wake her, but when she received no response, she decided not to bother her anymore. Thinking that her daughter was just very tired, she just let her sleep in.

When Consuela finally woke up, it was already well into the afternoon.

With a deep sigh, she sat up on her bed, rubbed her swollen eyes, stretched for a bit, and finally got out of bed.

After freshening up, she decided to go to the kitchen to grab something to eat. As she slowly made her way, she began to make out Sheryl's overly enthusiastic voice emanating from the living room.

"Harry, try this. It's really not bad."

The name immediately made Consuela stop in her tracks, her eyes widening. Somehow she now felt incredibly awake, as if she had just had a shot of espresso injected directly into her veins.

She wanted to go back to her room. She thought that she would just quicken her pace and act like she hadn't noticed Harry.

"Up just now, Consuela? Food's in the kitchen. Just heat it up!" Sheryl shouted the moment she saw Consuela emerge. She knew what her sister was trying to do, and so she wanted to sabotage her.

Consuela, on the other hand, just took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Got it, Sheryl. Good afternoon... Harry."

Harry didn't respond. Instead, he just cast a sidelong glance at her with the same disgust and disdain as he had yesterday. Then, all of a sudden, he took a bite of whatever Sheryl was offering him-a stark difference from his rejection of it just moments ago.

A sweet smile spread across his lips and he dotingly said, "You're right, darling. It's so delicious!"

He then took a spoonful of food and fed it to Sheryl.

Sheryl smiled shyly and ate it.

They seemed so in love with each other that they acted as if Consuela wasn't there.

Color drained from Consuela's face and her eyes were slowly becoming red. Quickly, she turned around and walked towards the kitchen, not wanting the two lovebirds to see the intense pain she was feeling in her heart.

Harry was set to be his brother-in-law! She should start getting over him!

After what had happened yesterday, she should have accepted that she and Harry could never be with each other anymore.

Consuela tightly closed her eyes in an attempt to prevent her tears from falling.

The moment she felt that she was going to be okay, she took a deep breath and started her way back to her room.

"Consuela! Come here. Let's watch TV together!" Sheryl invited from the living room, visibly beaming.

But Sheryl wasn't really intending on having quality time with her sister. She just wanted to showcase how happy she was with Harry. She hoped that by doing that, Consuela would completely give up on Harry.

Consuela stopped and forced a smile. "I think I'll pass for now. I don't want to disturb the both of you. I'm sorry."

After saying that, she left the living room without looking back.

Nobody would ever know how hard it was for her to see the man she loved with another woman, even if it was her sister.

Harry would never be hers.

As he watched Consuela's receding figure, Harry's face darkened in anger.

"Harry, try another one," Sheryl offered once again, now sounding incredibly ecstatic because of his reaction to her a while ago.

However, Harry grabbed her wrist and pushed her hand away. "You eat by yourself," he said, sounding annoyed.

The previously gentle and sweet man was now nowhere to be found.

Sheryl was stunned by this sudden change. "Okay," she replied dejectedly.

Resentment slowly colored her eyes and her hand slowly balled into a fist behind her back. Even if her nails dug into her flesh, she didn't feel any pain.

She realized that her mission still wasn't finsihed. 'I would get you, Harry, no matter what! You will love me, and only me!'

Back in her room, Consuela's strong façade quickly faded away. She immediately collapsed on her bed, burying her face into her soft pillow.

After a while, she laid on her back and stared at the ceiling. Everything that had happened in the past few days seemed to have overturned everything in her past.

"You are finally going to achieve your goal! I have decided to marry you!"

That man's words starting echoing in her head.

Immediately, she felt rage building up inside of her. Never in her life had she met such an arrogant man! Did he really think that all women in the world wanted to marry him? The audacity!

Despite her life being a total mess right now, all she was wishing was to not be in contact with him ever again. She wanted to live a peaceful life that was free from such a despicable man!

The memory of that night then came back to her, flooding her head. It was painful, but she wanted to see how bad the pictures were. She took out her phone and searched for them, but to her surprise, nothing came up.

Did that man do it?

Although they had only met each other twice, both of which had been a nightmare for her, she had deduced that he was rich, authoritative, and probably influential.

With that realization, somehow, she became afraid that he might make trouble for her after she refused to marry him.

She thought about it for some time, and soon enough, she felt annoyed. Rolling her eyes, she threw the phone aside and closed her eyes. It wasn't long until she fell asleep.

She woke up just before dinner, and when she arrived at the dining table, she saw her parents doting on Harry like he was their own son.

Consuela sat at the far end of the table without saying a word. At one point, her eyes met Harry's gaze.

"Harry, our Sheryl is a good girl. You must treat her well!" Johnson said, his expression serious.

The light, fun atmosphere immediately became tense.

Linda echoed her husband's sentiment, saying, "If you dare hurt our precious girl even one time, out family won't let you go."

Hearing that, Harry became visibly stunned. Slowly, he nodded and said with a gentle smile, "Uncle, Auntie, don't worry. I will never do anything like that."

"Well, not that we don't believe you," Johnson sighed. "It's just that...your children are the apple of your eye. You don't want anything bad to happen to them. It's difficult for you to understand right now, but when you finally have kids, you'll know."

Harry nodded knowingly. "I know, Uncle."

He looked like he was intent in keeping his word.

The moment he finished speaking, however, he stole a glance at Consuela.

At that point, Consuela was as pale as a ghost. When she noticed Harry turning to her, she lowered her head to avoid his gaze.

Johnson breathed a sigh of relief and regained his smile. "All right, all right. Please come to our house more often and make yourself at home. We all welcome you."

"Yes, Uncle," Harry replied, smiling back. "But I wonder if Consuela is welcoming me into the family."

Everyone hadn't expected to hear this from Harry.

The mention of her name brought Consuela back to her senses. She forced a smile and said, "What are you saying, Harry? Of course I welcome you. It seems like it won't be long until you become my brother-in-law."

Harry didn't react to what Consuela just said. Instead, he turned back to her parents and said, "Well then, I'll visit more often from now on."

Although Sheryl didn't say anything, a smile was plastered on her lips.

The whole exchange shook Consuela to her core.

She ate silently, but all she tasted in her mouth was bitterness.

Just as Harry promised, in the next few days, he visited the Xia Family's residence more often. Johnson and Linda were extremely happy to see him, and every time he was there, they would accommodate him well.

Consuela felt more and more conflicted as days went by. She didn't know how to approach Harry. Worse, she didn't know whether it was because he was her sister's boyfriend or because of that incident.

In order to keep herself sane, she just decided that she would avoid Harry at all cost.

One day, after dinner was over and Harry had left, Consuela confronted her parents. She just couldn't take it anymore! "I want to move out," she said quietly.

Johnson and Linda, who were enjoying their desserts, became visibly confounded. They raised their heads and said in unison, "What did you say?"

Taking a deep breath, Consuela repeated herself, this time in a more audible voice. "I want to move out."

"What? What's wrong?"

Sheryl, who was already in the living room and lounging on the sofa, asked.

Obviously, Consuela didn't tell her the real reason. Instead, she said, "Because I found a job. It's a little far from home. I want to rent a house that is closer to the company. I also want to try being independent."

"You found a job?" Linda asked skeptically.

Consuela nodded immediately. "I...I just got accepted. I haven't had the chance to tell you. "

"Which company?" Johnson asked cautiously. He was worried about Consuela.

"Well..." Consuela hadn't expected him to ask her such a question. Thinking of the companies that often appeared in the news, she quickly replied, "Uhh...Sruthan Group."

'She literally just graduated a few days ago. It would be hard for her to find a job. How would she get into a large company like Sruthan Group?' Sheryl doubted inwardly.

But that was not something she needed to worry about. She couldn't let Consuela move out so easily. She had worked so hard to make Harry hers, so that he could come to their house and she would have a chance to make her jealous!

She hadn't expected her sister to have such a vulnerable heart. She couldn't stand that.

"No way! It's not safe for you to live alone!" There was a worried look on Sheryl's face.

Consuela smiled in appreciation. "Thank you for worrying about me, but please don't. I'll be fine. Don't worry, I promise to call every night to tell you I'm safe! Mom, Dad, just say yes."

Despite Consuela's reassurance and convincing proposal, her parents still had some misgivings. But in the end, they still agreed to let her go. "Just make sure you'll be careful and safe, okay?" Linda said pleadingly.

Sheryl was stunned. As events unfolded, she became angrier and angrier. Why were her parents always so lenient when it came to Consuela! If Consuela had really fallen in love with Harry, would her parents beg her to give Harry up for her?

At the thought of this, Sheryl felt her chest tightening with anger. Malicious intent started glimmering in her eyes
