Chapter 6

I sat in my corner office, overlooking the bustling city.

My secretary's voice broke through my focus. "Mrs. Wolfe, there's... there's someone downstairs for you. A woman. She's making quite a scene."

"Who is it?"

"Bella Savage, ma'am. And her daughter. They're... well, they're crying, ma'am. Drawing a crowd."

I walked to the window. There she was. Bella, a crumpled heap on the pavement outside my gleaming corporate building, Mia clinging to her side, both of them sobbing dramatically. A small crowd had already gathered, phones out.

My lips curved into a cold, humorless smile. "Let them stay," I instructed my secretary. "Do not engage. Do not remove them. Just let them be."

Bella's wails grew louder. She was putting on a show.

"She's a monster!" Bella shrieked. "She's trying to ruin us! She wants to take everything away from my poor Mia! She's cold, heartless!"

The crowd swelled, murmuring. This was going viral. Exactly as I expected.

"My daughter, Mia, she just had a heart transplant! She's so fragile! And this woman, Mrs. Wolfe, she wants to take away our home, our livelihood!" Bella cried. "She thinks she owns everything! She wants to take Mia's heart too, doesn't she?"

A collective gasp went through the crowd.

My jaw tightened. She was desperate. Desperate enough to use her own child as a prop, to twist the narrative. She was painting me as the villain who wanted to steal Mia's heart, not the victim whose daughter's heart had been stolen.

Bella looked up at my office window, a desperate plea in her eyes. I wouldn't give her the satisfaction.

Then, a black car screeched to a halt. Graham. He jumped out, his face a mask of frantic worry.

"Bella! Mia! What are you doing?!" he exclaimed, rushing to them.

Bella immediately collapsed into his arms, sobbing. "Graham! She's trying to ruin us! She won't stop!"

He held her close, stroking her hair. "It's okay, Bella, it's okay. I'm here." He shot a furious glance up at my window. "Come on, let's get you out of here. This isn't helping."

I watched them go, a picture of a distraught family, united against a common enemy. Me.

"Mr. Reed," I said into my intercom. "Prepare the next round of evidence. We're going public."

The storm was coming.

Later that evening, the videos of Bella's dramatic protest flooded social media. Hashtags like #HeartlessBillionaire and #JusticeForMia trended worldwide.
