Mirabel 's POV.
"Mirabel! Where are those drinks?" Uncle Declan's tone was gruff but the pack meeting had fallen silent.
I jumped, almost spilling the glasses that I was holding on a tray. "Coming, Alpha!" I shouted back, attempting to sound as calm as possible.
Even in the full moon's night of celebration, I was still made the maid.
I rushed towards my uncle, while stirs pointed at me from all angles; some with a sympathetic look, some with a laugh on their faces. I've gotten used to the hurt already. The orphan. The weakling. The pack's servant girl. The wolfless werewolf. All these names and more had become my nick name in the lips of the werewolves in my pack
I found myself in front of Uncle Declan and handed him the tray and kept my eyes low. "Here you are, Alpha."
He picked up a glass without turning his head to me. "Now scat, go back to the kitchen."
Walking quickly to the kitchen while being engulfed in sadness, it happened.
A strange sensation suddenly ran through me as if I was given an electric shock. The room went quiet. I glanced up to find that everyone had their eyes opened wide in my direction.
"What...what is it?" I inquired nervously.
This made Uncle Declan pale. "Your eyes," he whispered. "They're. . . glowing."
I blinked in confusion. "Glowing? What do you mean?"
But before anyone could answer, the look of shock on Uncle Declan's face transitioned to anger. He abruptly got up from the chair and the chair fell behind him.
Walking out with so much force that I was scared his footsteps might puncture the ground, barking out the order straight at me,
"You, get to your room and do not come out until I tell you to do so."
The pack members began mumbling as they exited the room one by one. I was so paralyzed that I could not even utter a single word, and all that I could see was Uncle Declan staring at me angrily before stumping out of the room.
I shook my head back to reality. It was a trance, very strange. I felt that it was due to lack of good sleep, but while reminiscing about it, I heard Uncle Declan
"Mirabel! Where are those drinks?" And my responses and my eyes glowing. Everything happening just as I saw it.
The scenario happened again. Or did I see the scenario before it happened? I was confused.
I quickly nodded and then ran out of the room my heart racing. What just happened? Why did my eyes shine that way? And what the heck? Did I just see few seconds into the future? And why did Uncle Declan look so. . . scared?
My room was the smallest room at the end of the pack house, I pondered and paced round the room. The pounding of my heartbeat was almost louder than the whispers I started hearing outside my locked room. I stood up with the intent of peeping through the holes in the door but while walking towards it, I couldn't help but notice my pale looking face in the mirror, my reflection looking right back at me.
My eyes were normal and were their natural bright gold colour. Was I dreaming all this?
No, I decided. The expression on Uncle Declan's face had been all too real. There was something more and he knew more than he was willing to tell me.
Hours passed. The pack house became rather silent as the morning advanced. I was planning to slip out for some food when another set of whispers became a little louder and caught my attention to the voices just outside the door of the room. They were walking past my room while conversing.
"Can't let that wolfless girl find out the truth". It was Uncle Declan's voice, low and angry.
I went to my door, peeping and listening silently occasionally putting my ear on the door.
"But Alpha," another voice said, "What if it happens again? The pack is asking questions."
"Then we'll deal with it," roared Uncle Declan. "We never let her know the truth about who she is, that is too dangerous."
I wondered what truth he meant.
I mean the only thing I could remember about my past was waking up in a cold dark room and Uncle Declan, asking me to trust him, he takes my hand and leads me to the pack. For a strange reason I can't remember my past as if I don't have one
"And if she starts showing more. . . . abilities?" the other voice asked.
After that, there was a moment of silence. "Then we will have no other option," replied Uncle Declan. "We shall have to get rid of her".
I almost cried out in surprise and placed my hand over my mouth to stop myself. Get rid of me? What was going on?
They walked off and the voices began to disappear. I collapsed on the floor and my thoughts began to race. There was something that Uncle Declan was not telling me about my parents. Something big. And he was willing to cause me pain so that no one else would find out.
I had to discover the truth and that is why I had to set out on this journey. But how?
I had a vision for a moment, Uncle Declan's office. All the pack records were kept there by him. If there was any information about my parents it would be in there.
It was risky. But if I got caught, I don't know what my Uncle Declan would do. But I had to know.
I waited until there everyone in the pack house had retreated to their rooms, at least I thought so. exhaling deeply, I got out of my room quietly but it was just in time to bump into my drunk cousin Rory.
"Hey hottie, how about I taste you tonight, you look really delicious".
Rory had said in his husky low voice, as he forces a hug on me.
