The Beginning Of My Life As A Billionaire

Author: : Neilla Steedly
Genre: Modern
I grew up in a poor family. My foster mother worked tirelessly as a maid to support me. In order to climb out of poverty, I studied hard and got into a prestigious university. But not long after, my foster mother fell seriously ill and quickly racked up two hundred thousand dollars in medical expenses. I tried to borrow money, but instead, I only received humiliation and abuse. I hated my life. Why was I so incompetent? When I was at my most desperate point, I suddenly received a text message from the bank. "Mr. Larson, you've received $1,000,000,000 in your account." I was dumbfounded. A billion dollars? It had to be a scam! But then suddenly, a strange man called me. "Mathews, do you want to know how your biological mother died? Spend a billion dollars within the month, and I'll tell you everything!"

Chapter 1 One Billion Dollars

"Mathews, when are you going to pay the bill? Your mother already owes the hospital over a hundred thousand dollars for her treatment!" Brent Kelly, the young doctor, asked impatiently, pointing at Mathews Larson's nose.

"You may be Debby's fiancé, but this is a hospital, not a welfare house!

If you don't pay the bill by today, then I will take your mother off the life support and kick her out of the hospital!"

Like a sharp knife, the doctor's words wounded Mathews' heart.

Mathews trembled with anger, clenching his fists, but he forced a smile and said, "Dr. Kelly, you know I'm really struggling here. Can't you give me some more time?"

A scornful smile traced over Brent's lips as he replied, "Give you more time? Do I look like some shopkeeper from the market whom you can bargain with?"

Brent was well aware that Mathews came from a poverty stricken family.

And that was what gave him the courage to bully poor Mathews so brutally.

In fact, Brent used to be Debby Coleman, neighbor of Mathews' fiancee.

And he had always had a secret crush on Debby, who was not only gorgeous, but also came from a strong family background. That was one of the reasons Brent wanted to pursue her.

However, before he had been able to make his move, Debby had already gotten engaged to Mathews.

"A loser like you doesn't deserve Debby at all."

Brent sneered, giving Mathews an ultimatum.

"I don't care whether you borrow, rob, or sell your organs to get the money. You must pay the hospital bill today!"

After saying that, Brent left.

Mathews stood there, livid, and gritting his teeth.

Brent had been enjoying making things difficult for Mathews ever since his adoptive got hospitalized.

And Mathews had no idea how or when he had offended Brent.

Staring at his adoptive mother, Rosa Astley, lying on the bed with tubes all over her body, Mathews swallowed his anger.

After all, if she had not risked her life to save him and raise him all those years, then he would have died a long time ago.

Mathews was grateful to her and wanted to pay her back for everything that she had done for him.

He took out his phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, Debby, I... I want to borrow some money from you... That is, about one hundred thousand dollars."

Debby was shopping with her mother, Patty Coleman, when Mathews called.

"Is it for your mother's medical fees? I..."

Before Debby could finish her words, Patty snatched her phone away and shouted, "One hundred thousand dollars? How dare you ask for that much, Mathews?

Our family has supported you and your invalid mother for more than 20 years now. Is this how you repay us?

You are a loser, a leech, who only knows to drain our family's fortune!

As for your mother, her life isn't even worth that much money!"

While she was talking, the luxury store's shop assistant bowed to her and said, holding a delicate box in her hand, "Here is your bag, Mrs. Coleman. I have packed everything for you."

Patty looked at her and nodded casually before she took out her credit card and handed it to her.

"120, 000 dollars, right? How cheap! Here, take this card!"

Patty wanted to continue insulting Mathews, but Debby could not stand it at all, so she grabbed the phone back.

"Don't worry, Mathews. I'll figure out a way to solve the problem."

Mathews had mixed feelings as he heard the busy tone on the other end.

In Patty's eyes...

His mother's life wasn't even worth 100, 000 dollars!

However, she found a stupid bag worth 120, 000 bucks to be cheap?

The very thought made his heart explode with anger.

All of a sudden, he got a message from the Hlas Bank. "Greetings, Mr. Larson! 1, 000, 000, 000 dollars has been deposited into your bank account with the last three digits 107."

Chapter 2 Who Killed My Mother

A billion dollars?

Mathews immediately opened the mobile banking app on his phone to check his account balance.

And indeed, the number on the screen was so shocking that he almost felt dizzy.

He began to tremble.

"There's a billion dollars in my account? What the fuck?"

With eyes wide open, he breathed heavily as though the blood in his body was boiling.

Just then, his phone rang again.

It was from an unknown number.

Mathews answered the call right away.

"Mathews, I just transferred a billion dollars to your bank account." A deep male voice came from the other end of the line.

Holding his breath, Mathews asked cautiously, "And who... Who on earth are you? Why did you send me that money?"

Mathews knew well that there was no concept of a free lunch. No one would give a billion dollars to a stranger without a reason!

It was evident that the man on the other end wanted something from him.

Mathews racked his brains to try and figure out what that man could possibly want from him, because he was just an orphan without any powerful connections.

"I'm a friend of your parents."

The mysterious man's words exploded in Mathews' mind like a bomb.

"I know who killed your biological mother!" the man added before Mathews could say anything.

Upon hearing that, Mathews felt his mind went blank. He completely lost his ability to think for a moment and stood there in a daze.

Actually, he had a faint memory of his past.

When he was a child, he had lived in a large, magnificent villa with his mother.

Although his father had rarely showed up, he had lived a happy life with his mother.

However, everything had changed on one particular day...

Their house had been set on fire, and there had been blood everywhere. He felt like he could still smell the choking thick smoke from that day whenever closed his eyes.

Mathews had seen a woman with a scar on her face murdering his mother.

His beautiful and kind mother had been killed and thrown into the flames right before his eyes.

As a kid, Mathews had been so terrified that he had wanted to scream his heart out. However, a maid had covered his mouth.

The maid had helped him escape the murderer before she had weakly fallen on the soft snowy street.

Mathews had thrown himself on her and cried inconsolably.

A little girl, who was as beautiful as an angel, showed up and saved him at that moment.

In fact, that little girl was Debby!

And Rosa Astley was the maid who had helped Mathews escape. She was also his adoptive mother who was lying sick on the hospital bed now.

The Coleman family had not only helped Rosa get treatment, but they had also taken them in.

Ever since, Rosa had worked as a maid in the Coleman household in order to be able to afford Mathews' tuition.

Debby's grandfather had noticed how the kids grew up together and got along well with each other, and considering Debby being his only granddaughter and Mathews being a decent man, he had decided to let them marry and officially make Mathews part of the Coleman family.

However, unfortunately, Patty had always been dissatisfied with Mathews, so after Debby's grandfather had passed away, she had driven Mathews out of their house.

And that was the reason Mathews had not been able to pay for Rosa's hospital bill now.

"Who killed my birth mother?"

Mathews growled in a trembling voice that was mixed with a hint of anger, sadness, and pain.

"I can't tell you now. I will only tell you once you finish spending that billion dollars I gave you within a month. Keep in mind that no one can know about the wealth you have now."

Saying that, the mysterious man hung up the phone.

Mathews was about to call him back, but then Brent came over.

"Why are you still here?"

Brent scoffed when he saw that Mathews was still standing there instead of running around to gather money for his mother's medical bill.

Did you not take my words seriously? Fine, then! I'll call the funeral home and ask them to take your mother away since you're shamelessly refusing to pay the bill for her treatment," Brent said rudely.

Mathews glared at him with red eyes and hissed, "Don't go too far. I'll pay the bills now!"

Brent was shocked. Did Mathews really manage to get so much money in such a short time?

Surprised, he rolled his eyes at Mathews and suddenly remembered something. "You asked Debby for money, didn't you? You always rely on your girl to spend money for you. What a loser! Do you even deserve to be called a man?"

Since Mathews had a billion dollars in his account now, he was confident.

"It's none of your business where I got the money from. All you need to know is that I can pay the bill now!"

Brent didn't expect that Mathews would suddenly turn so aggressive, and his face turned livid with rage.

All of a sudden, Mathews' phone vibrated in his pocket.

It was another unknown number.

He was about to answer the call when he accidentally turned on the speaker.

"Hello, is this Mr. Mathews Larson?

This is Saul Torres, president of Hlas Bank's branch in Nouis.

My people just informed me that you have deposited a billion dollars in our bank."

A flattering voice came from the other end of the line.

But before Mathews could answer...

Brent laughed scornfully.

"A billion dollars? The president?

How ridiculous you are, Mathews! You even got someone to put on an act in front of me!

Did you seriously think that I would buy this crap? What a bunch of idiots!"

Chapter 3 The Reversal

Saul became angry when he heard Brent's words over the phone.

As the president of Nouis branch of Hlas Bank, he was always responsible for handling very large sums of money, and the Torres family, one of the four most powerful families in the city was right behind him.

Even the mayor of the city had to show some respect to him.

So how could a random guy dare to mock and insult him?

"Who the hell are you? And how dare you insult Mr. Larson?" Saul's roar was so loud that it almost shook the hospital hallway.

"You idiot!

Mathews is nothing but a loser!

He can't even afford his mother's medical bills! Who the hell does he think he is?

Eat some fucking shit, you dumbass!"

Brent said, laughing hysterically.

Saul was so furious that he roared in a shaky voice, "How dare you say such a thing?

What the hell is your name? Not a single person in Nouis would dare to insult me like this!

You wait, I am coming to you in five minutes!"

"Sure thing, loser! I'll be at the Nouis Infirmary!"

Brent sneered, not taking Saul seriously. After all, Mathews was so poor that he could not even pay his mother's medical bills. How could someone like him really know a bank president?

Thinking that he had exposed Mathews' stupid trick, Brent sneered, "You poor loser. How dare you lie to me?

I'll give you five minutes. Show me what you have up your sleeve!"

Mathews sighed and shook his head. "You'll soon get on your knees and beg me for mercy!"

"Idiot, stop pretending!

We'll see what happens in five minutes, won't we?

If you don't kneel before me and apologize, then...

I will throw your mom out of the hospital!"

Brent sneered again, looking at his watch and counting down the time.

Five minutes passed quickly, and Brent lost his patience.

But then, all of a sudden, there was a loud noise outside the hospital.

Looking out of the window, Brent saw a cash truck parked outside, and the door was open.

A middle-aged man in a suit rushed into the hospital, accompanied by eight strong armed security guards.

But because he was so far away, Brent could not see his face clearly.

However, he was so shocked by the scene that he turned to Mathews in horror.

They were really people from the bank!

So...

Did Mathews really just talk to the president of the Hlas Bank just now?

Brent's back was wet from the cold sweat, and he had a bad feeling.

However, he still tried to comfort himself.

It was impossible for it to be true.

After all, Mathews was just a loser!

How could he know someone like Saul Torres?

Thinking of that, Brent guessed that it must just be a coincidence. And just when he was about to convince himself, he heard loud footsteps in the stairs.

It was like an entire army marching toward him.

And he felt as though they were stomping on his heart.

Soon, Saul and the ferocious-looking guards appeared.
