Penniless Or Peerless: How Garry Smith Strikes Back

Author: : Claudette
Genre: Modern
Ever since I was a child, I had always been poor. Every time I came home from school, I would be met with the sight of my father busying himself in the kitchen. From my earliest recollection, I would always remember my father wearing his old factory uniforms in the house. His hair was snow-white and he had very dark skin. He would usually smoke cheap cigarettes and the car he drove around was a Santana which was a real wreck. Despite all our hardships, my father threw himself into his work for 18 years and raised me to his best abilities, and I ended up not disappointing him as I managed to get into a very good university. Because I came from poverty, I had to work a part-time job in order to pay the high tuition fees. I knew my classmates must've looked down on me because I was so poor, but I did my best to not let that bother me. On the day of my 18th birthday, my father announced that he was going to give me a birthday present and that he would bring it to me in person. That day I saw my father in a new light. My father's coarse snow-white head had turned shiny black. He had replaced his tattered clothes with expensive Givenchy suits, and he even wore a Patek Philippe watch around his wrist. The old Santana was now a limited edition Rolls Royce. I stared at my father with bewildered eyes and asked him in an incredulous voice, "Dad, is our family really the richest in the world right now?" My father took out a Mayan Sicars cigar worth $500,000, lit it, and blew out a smoke ring. "Son, I know you've suffered a lot for the past 18 years, and I feel ashamed that I couldn't have provided more for you. I want you to take this ten million as pocket money first. You can ask me for more later if it's not enough!"

Chapter 1 Swallowing His Pride To Borrow Money

"Garry, You can go now. I don't have any money to lend you and I don't want to see your face ever again."

Shelly's eyes were full of scorn.

Garry Smith lowered his gaze to the ground, his eyes full of grief and helplessness.

Shelly Brooks was his first love.

They attended the same university.

"You always do this. Every time you make a mistake, you come to me for money. What do you think I am? Your wallet?"

"No, you must listen to me. This time..."

"I've had enough!"

Shelly couldn't bear to listen to his explanation and interrupted him immediately.

She turned on her heels, made her way into her family's restaurant, and slammed the door behind her.

A cold voice could be heard from beyond the closed door.

"Garry, Can't you just go to work and make money on your own? Piece of crap!"

Garry let out a heavy sigh and headed in the direction of his school.

Garry was born into a poor family.

His parent could only give him a bit of pocket change once every month.

While in the dormitory, Garry accidentally broke a roommate's Nintendo Switch, which nearly six hundred dollars.

The classmate wanted him to pay for the damage within the week.

"Garry, one week has already gone by. I want you to pay me back now!"

"I'm so sorry, Larson. Can you please give me some more time? I don't have any money right now."

"Really? Why don't you ask your family for it if you don't have the money on you? Are you an orphan or something?"

Larson's voice was oozing with sarcasm.

"If both your parents are dead, I can think about giving you some more time."

Garry's face reddened out of anger.

"Let me make myself clear to you. I don't like having my things damaged by others, especially by the likes of you, a poor person!"

Larson sneered and lifted a foot to give Garry a hard kick.

Garry was filled with anger and grievance, but he couldn't do anything to Larson who was stronger than him.

With staggering steps, he walked out of the dormitory.

As he was walking on the busy street, he felt very aggrieved and confused.

He had no idea what he had done wrong.

Why was Larson treating him so viciously?

"Just because I don't come from a rich family?"

'If my family has money, will Shelly and Larson treat me differently?'

Suddenly A Rolls-Royce car came to a stop right in front of him.

The door opened and out came a figure he did not expect at all.

"Dad? Is that you?"

Garry stared at the middle-aged man with surprise and disbelief in his eyes.

Chapter 2 buy a house

"Son, I've had someone transfer ten million to your bank account. Be sure to enjoy yourself."

"Ten million... dollars?"

"So I am the rich man?"

Two hours later

The Rolls-Royce showed up at the school gate again.

Garry got out of the car in a complete daze.

When he regained his senses, he discovered that he had walked back to his dorm building again.

He saw that his bed was a mess and the things in the wardrobe were now scattered all over the floor.

'It must've been that bastard, Larson!'

Garry made a step forward, but another roommate, Clayton Stanley, blocked him.

"Garry, I have some good news for you! Larson's family has gone bankrupt and now he's also a poor guy."

"Larson's family is now bankrupt?"

"Haha, yup, that's right."

Garry saw that Larson was lying on the bed.

He appeared as depressed as a drowning dog.

Garry's phone chimed with an incoming call right then.

"Mr. Garry Smith, I'm Allard Hewitt, the new housekeeper to the Smith family."

"Were you the one who made Larson's family go bankrupt?"

"Yes. It was my doing,"

Allard said in a calm voice.

"Since the son of the owner of a small company dared to go up against you, we made them go bankrupt as revenge."

Garry was shocked to the core.

He had no clue that his family was so awesomely powerful.

Garry disconnected the call in a trance.

"What should I do next? "

Images of Clayton's and Larson's facial expressions earlier flooded his mind, instantly making him feel sick.

"I'd rather buy my own house than live with the two of them for two whole years!"

Garry took a taxi to a nearby real estate agent once he had made up his mind.

When Garry opened the door, a saleswoman in a tight skirt and black silk stockings got up, about to greet him with a smile.

But when she saw that it was just a young boy, dressed very poorly, she immediately lost interest.

No one walked up to Garry and introduced themselves.

Garry just stood there, feeling awkward.

"Caitlin Barker!"

The manager said in a loud voice to the saleswoman who had just gotten up.

"Okay, I know."

Caitlin had no other choice but to stand up again and make her way up to Garry with a fake and insincere smile plastered all over her face.

"Sir, just to let you know, all the buildings on sale here are on the level of middle-grade and high-grade housing. The average price would be around two million."

"About two million?"

Garry was shocked.

The housing prices here were high.

Caitlin's face took on an even more scornful look when she saw just how shocked he was.

Before Garry could say anything, he saw that Caitlin's eyes had lit up at the sight of a middle-aged man entering the agency.

"Hello sir, do tell me what kind of house you're thinking of buying. Just to let you know, I'm very familiar with the area."

Caitlin's voice became charming.

"I promise you I will help you find a very good and satisfactory place."

Feeling the woman's soft and delicate body leaning against him, the middle-aged man was powerless against her charming demeanor as her wonderful fragrance wafted up to his nose.

"Miss, please help me find a good place. Just so that you know, I have lots of money."

"Don't worry about it. What we sell are all high-end housing and we only serve exclusive customers like you..."

As Caitlin was saying this, her eyes inadvertently glanced over at Garry.

The disdain on her face was obvious.

"Unlike some people who don't know their status and pretend to be rich for their amusement."

Chapter 3 Fire Her

"Sir, how can I help you?"

"I want to buy this house over here. "

Garry said as he pointed his finger at a picture of a house for sale that was tacked onto the bulletin board.

"This house costs five million three hundred and twenty thousand dollars. Are you sure, sir?"

The manager's eyes widened in shock.

"Yes, and I will pay you in full. "

"What?"

Caitlin shouted when she heard this.

"Don't believe a word he says, boss. He looks like he comes from a poor background. He won't be able to afford it at all."

The other employees burst out laughing when they saw this.

How could the young man afford such a house since he was dressed so poorly?

The manager also gave Garry a suspicious look, thinking that he only said this because of Caitlin's bullying.

With a sneer, Caitlin said to the manager, "This fool is all lies. If his card transaction could go through, I will immediately resign."

"Okay, I'll hold you to your promise then."

Garry angrily pointed his finger at her.

Caitlin looked over at him with a contemptuous stare.

"If it fails, then you have to get out of this shop while barking like a dog loudly!"

Garry agreed to the bet and handed his bank card to the manager.

The manager's expression shifted slightly.

He had no other choice but to take the card and head to swipe it.

Caitlin continued to smirk, "Soon I will see how you're like a dog and crawl out later!"

Then she turned around and sweetly said to the middle-aged man, "Sir, I'm sorry you had to see that."

"It matters very little. But I also want to see that person acting like a dog, haha."

Under their malicious and sarcastic gazes, Garry smiled coldly.

After some time, the manager came out from the back room.

In his hand, he held the bank card tightly and the expression he had on his face was a very complicated one.

"What's the matter, manager? Did you swipe the card?"

The manager gave Caitlin a cold glance, made his way up to Garry, and handed the card back to him respectfully.

All the people were immediately shaken by his words as if they had just been struck by a bolt of lightning from out of nowhere.

"How could that be possible?"

Caitlin was shocked and screamed.

"Did you make some sort of mistake? How could this idiot be rich?"

"Shut your mouth!"

The manager lifted his hand and slapped Caitlin hard across the face.

"Fuck off now! As of now, you're fired!"

The manager was very angry.

This stupid woman dared to offend a key client.

The client could take out over five million dollars, So how could it be possible that he came from a simple background?
