Great Fortune: I Am A Billionaire

Author: : Brina Arrow
Genre: Modern
After pooling together what little I earned from my part-time job, I was finally able to buy my girlfriend a cake for her birthday and surprise her. Little did I know that I was the one in for a surprise-- I found my girlfriend cheating with another man right in front of me! She trampled all over my dignity and humiliated me. All because I was a common pauper. I walked home with a shattered heart, not knowing what was waiting for me at home. The butler of the country's richest man showed up at my door. It was only then that my mother had told me the shocking truth-- I was the heir of the Nelson Group. The Nelson family was known for owning numerous luxurious properties around the country, and I was going to inherit it all. This was my opportunity for revenge and to take back my dignity. After buying a designer suit and hopping in a luxury car, I appeared before my ex-girlfriend. When she saw me, she knelt down and begged for mercy. She cried, "I am so sorry for betraying you. Can you please give me another chance?" It felt good to see that those people who once belittled and insulted me now bowed at my feet and scurried to flatter me. But I was even more satisfied when I turned around and ignored them, heading to my new home that was worth millions. From now on, money was nothing more than a string of numbers to me. A reporter asked me once, "Mr. Nelson, do you love money?" I put down my cigar and said the words that would take the world by storm, "I don't love money. I just like spending it."

Chapter 1 Birthday Party

"This is so pretty. Elissa will surely love this cake."

A sweet smile flashed across Patrick Nelson's face as he stared at the cake he was holding.

The heart on top of the cake was formed by two swans snuggling with each other.

Additionally, Elissa Harrison's favorite color was white. Patrick was well aware of this because they had been dating for three years.

He spent all the money he earned from part-time jobs this month in order to purchase this gorgeous cake.

"What the heck? She is going to celebrate her birthday in such a luxurious place?"

Patrick was taken aback after he read the details sent to his phone.

He was standing in front of Skiyton Hotel, the only five-star hotel in Glouland.

The normal expenditure for his hotel would be no less than a thousand dollars.

As such, Patrick was shocked that Elissa, his girlfriend, was going to celebrate her birthday at such an expensive place. Moreover, she invited several of her classmates.

After a quick calculation, he estimated that her birthday party would cost her at least one hundred thousand dollars.

Since both their families weren't rich, he had no idea how she could afford such an extravagant party in a luxurious hotel.

When Patrick glanced at the clock on his phone, he realized that it was nearly time for the birthday celebration. However, his girlfriend had yet to arrive.

Suddenly, an expensive car parked by the hotel entrance. From the car emerged a man and a woman.

With a lascivious expression, the man groped the girl's butt. Embarrassed, the girl slightly twisted her body and playfully tapped the man's shoulder.

"Hey, be gentle."

The man with a large beer belly was Judson Cohen. He was forty years old and the proud owner of the car. The suit he was wearing was specially tailored by the brand Saint Anglos.

The beautiful and alluring woman walking beside him was Elissa.

Unfortunately, Patrick saw how physically intimate the two were.

At that moment, he realized that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

Apparently, her paramour was a middle-aged man.

"Elissa!"

Patrick called out to her. With eyes seething with anger, he approached them.

Elissa was so distressed that she wanted to walk away from there.

"How dare you bother us? Who are you?" Judson stared at Patrick with a haughty expression.

Elissa was about to say something, but Patrick immediately said, "I'm Elissa's boyfriend. Who the hell are you?"

When they heard Patrick's answer, Elissa and Judson pulled long faces.

"What are you doing here? I told you to come after the party ends," Elissa said in a vexed voice. Although she was upset, she managed to keep a straight face.

A painful sensation spread in Patrick's heart. In a cracked voice, he said, "I wouldn't know you are cheating on me if I didn't come."

Meanwhile, Judson glared daggers at the man who said that he was Elissa's boyfriend.

There were stains of black and blue all over the man's garment, as well as on his pants. Overall, he seemed like a homeless person who woke up from a pile of rubbish and happened to walk by here.

The man was holding a cheap cake that was the size of his palm. Judson thought that his servants were more affluent than the destitute guy in front of him.

"How dare you claim to be Elissa's boyfriend when you're a total loser? Have you ever seen her naked? Tell me, how many moles does she have on her bosom?" Judson scoffed as he wrapped his arms around Elissa.

"What do you mean? Elissa, have you slept with this man?" Patrick's face darkened, yet he still had a hopeful light in his eyes as he looked at Elissa.

Unfortunately, only Elissa's enigmatic gaze welcomed him. "Patrick, I know how much you care about me, but I think you've got something wrong. You are not my boyfriend."

Patrick felt as though a dagger was thrust into his chest with these remarks.

A bitter smile flashed across his lips as he clenched his fists so tight that his nails dug into his flesh. "Does that mean that our relationship is only in my imagination?"

"Leave me alone!" Elissa yelled with an irate face. Discontentment was apparent in her expression.

When she waved her hand, she accidentally hit the cake and made it fall to the ground.

Because of the loose packaging, the cake flew out of the box. With a thud, it splattered on the sidewalk.

The mud on the ground tainted the pure white frosting. The swans' heads, which had been carefully sculpted from white chocolate, cracked upon impact.

At that moment, Patrick had the sensation that his heart was being ripped apart.

"Do you have any idea who Judson is? As the vice general manager of this hotel, he earns a million dollars yearly. With his wealth, he can easily afford a million cakes like that."

"Look. There's a homeless person trying to get close to Elissa."

Suddenly, several young women stepped out of the hotel to observe the situation. They were gossiping and giggling while looking at Patrick's shameful appearance.

"How dare an impoverished mutt like him ruin my day?"

With an arrogant look, Judson stepped on the head of a swan, breaking it into pieces. Then, he put his hands around Elissa's waist as the two of them entered Skiyton Hotel without looking back at Patrick.

For the rest of his life, Patrick would be haunted by the sarcasm and mocking from those two.

Elissa had easily disregarded their three-year relationship for money.

The bashful expression on her face when they went on their first date was still fresh in his mind.

In Patrick's younger years, her bright grin was like a breath of fresh air and a beam of sunlight for him.

Walking to the bank of a river, Patrick could barely bear the pain in his heart. As he stared into the water, he saw the reflection of his dejected expression.

He grabbed a stone off the riverbank and chucked it into the river.

A loud howl escaped his breath to vent his anger. It was as if Judson and Elissa were in the river and he was screaming at them. However, the one he hated most was himself for being a coward.

He was a guy who lived in abject poverty and was completely helpless. Since he was a youngster, he had been the victim of several injustices. It seemed like there was no end to his sufferings.

"In the event that I become wealthy, I will without a doubt get revenge. All those who have wronged me will regret what they have done as they grovel under my feet."

His eyes were filled with anger and rabid hate. Patrick wanted nothing more than to express his frustration.

For an hour, he sat by the river and thought back on every aspect of his relationship with Elissa.

A tremendous agony arose in Patrick's heart. However, he had to eventually calm himself, no matter how difficult the situation was.

"I better head home."

Ten minutes later, Patrick arrived at a decrepit apartment on the outskirts of the city.

After he got off the bus, Patrick started walking toward the building labeled No. 1.

He was staying on the first floor of the No. 1 building. This little space was just thirty square meters in size. It had two bedrooms and one living room, so it was extremely humble.

Upon arriving at the building, Patrick noticed a gorgeous dark Pagani.

Even if he worked for the rest of his life, Patrick couldn't afford such a premium vehicle. However, one was currently parked just outside his home.

An elderly guy in white gloves and a tuxedo was waiting patiently for Patrick to arrive.

The elderly gentleman bowed respectfully and greeted, "Hello, Mr. Nelson. I've been looking forward to seeing you for a very long time. My name is Elvin Griffin, your father's butler. As per his order, I have deposited a hundred million dollars to your account as pocket money."

"Are you serious? He's giving me one hundred million dollars? That much wealth is only pocket money? Don't be ridiculous. My daily meal is composed of bread and pickles. I can only have meat once a month at most. I'm broke to the bone. Are you still going to try to trick me?"

Believing that the man in front of him was a conman, Patrick helplessly waved his hand.

His mother was very sickly, while his father, who was already dead, belonged to a family of peasants.

Neither his parents nor relatives had twenty thousand dollars in the bank, much alone a vehicle.

Since he came from such an impoverished background, there was no way he could have a butler and a premium vehicle.

There was no way his father would give him one hundred million dollars as pocket money.

"Your allowance will be transferred to your account soon enough. By that time, you will know that I am not a liar," Elvin said with a bright smile.

Ding!

Suddenly, Patrick's phone received a notification. Apparently, the bank had sent him a message.

"Greetings, Mr. Nelson. One hundred million dollars have been deposited into your account. Your new account balance is one hundred million and five dollars."

When Patrick read the details on the bank application on his phone, his jaw dropped in disbelief. One hundred million dollars were truly deposited in his account. "Is this a dream?"

Chapter 2 Skiyton Hotel

"Come here, Patrick." A recognizable and raspy voice sounded out at this very moment.

It was his mother, Laura. She seemed exhausted and worn out. Despite only being in her forties, she had snow-white hair.

His mother's strength seemed to have been depleted after speaking those few words.

Patrick rushed to her side when he heard her voice. He was moved by her plight and suggested to her, "It is time for you to go to sleep, Mom. The weather is awful, and it's best not to walk around."

Laura took a big breath and waved her hand in the air. "Patrick, you've matured a lot. There's something I want to tell you. Your father is still alive. Walter Nelson is his name."

"Walter Nelson?" Patrick was in disbelief and shock. "You said he was dead a long time ago. You didn't even tell me his name. Also, this is the name of the country's wealthiest man."

"This isn't a coincidence. Your father is Walter Nelson, the country's wealthiest man and chairman of Nelson Group!" Laura was honest with Patrick. It heaved a heavy weight from her shoulders.

Patrick hadn't anticipated that Walter Nelson, a well-known man, was his father.

He should never have deserted his wife and son, no matter how wealthy he was!

Patrick loathed his father. With an unflinching expression, he said, "So, after all this time, why hasn't he returned to visit us? We've been doomed to misery for all these years while he's been living a nice life someplace else!"

Elvin, the butler, said, "Your father is in the midst of a multi-billion-dollar deal with a foreign corporation. He's not able to return at this crucial point in time. He specifically requested that I be here for him."

Laura's eyes welled up with tears as she smiled bitterly. "This is all my fault. There's nothing wrong with what your father did. Patrick, my sincere wish is that you won't have any ill feelings against him. He has had a lot more difficult life than we could have ever imagined."

Patrick remained silent after hearing his mother's remarks, but conflicting emotions tore within him.

He had never met his father in the preceding twenty years, not even once.

His father had been dead in his eyes for a long time.

But suddenly, he was informed that not only was his father still alive but that he was also the wealthiest person in the nation!

Patrick was left reeling after hearing this shocking news.

Elvin was aware of Patrick's resentment against his father. Pitifully, he said, "Because of the circumstances, your father was compelled to leave you. He left you and your mother in a hurry because he almost perished in the onslaught from his foes. Now that he has all of Asopool's resources under his control and has exterminated all of his opponents, he can return to you and your mother."

After a brief delay, he fetched a credit card from his bag and presented it to Patrick.

The look on Elvin's face softened, and he murmured apologetically, "He gave you this credit card in order to make up for the years he's been absent. It's a way for him to make up for not being a good and obliged parent."

"A credit card?" Patrick enquired with a wary brow. He refused to accept it.

His gaze was drawn to the credit card in his hand. The black diamonds on the black card were stunning.

Patrick had not seen such a credit card in the last two decades.

"The one hundred million dollars in your account is nothing more than pocket money. If the amount does not suffice, you have the option of taking out an unlimited overdraft!" Elvin remarked.

"Unlimited overdraft!?" Patrick was amazed. He forced a strong swallow and licked his parched lip. He had never imagined that he would ever have so much money at his disposal.

He could obtain as much money as he wished with this card. If he so desired, he could even erect a skyscraper.

"There are numerous properties owned by your father in this city. He wants you to manage a small hotel for him."

"I'm still in school. No, I don't think it's a good idea to give up my education to work at a small hotel."

Elvin didn't anticipate that Patrick would refuse him. His sharpness of perception was something Elvin was delighted about. 'There's no doubt about it; the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'

"It's a five-star establishment. You won't have to spend a lot of time or effort on it. It's Skiyton Hotel, if my recollection is correct." Elvin spoke casually as if this five-star hotel was no different than any other regular hotel!

"Skiyton Hotel? How could that be a small hotel?"

Surprised, Patrick reacted. What an affluent man his father must have been!

He remembered the incident at the hotel where he had been insulted, and a cold light shone in his eyes.

He felt the sorrow of the humiliation he had endured in his heart. He had never been able to enter the hotel.

But now, he had the opportunity to avenge himself.

"Fine! I agree, but this is just short-term. I'll manage the hotel until I meet my father."

"Don't be worried. It is just a matter of time until you meet your father."

Elvin made a passing mention of Walter's travails in the corporate world during the past two decades.

Despite his wealth, Walter had gone through a lot in his life. A number of his competitors had rebuffed him and even bankrupted him a number of times. But he was able to go through it all on his own.

"You will have a difficult time running a business like your father's. If you want to take over your father's business, you'll need the support of those key stockholders. You'll have to keep working with the companies from other countries who've been working with us for a while. All of these things need your involvement." Elvin spoke earnestly, looking at Patrick with a hopeful look.

Elvin desired that Walter would be succeeded by a capable individual.

He had high hopes that the successor would restore honor to the Nelson family.

The elderly man's eyes were wide open, and Patrick could see his delight.

Patrick believed that he was being entrusted with an important task.

He hadn't felt this much pressure and expectation in the preceding twenty years.

"From this point on, I am no longer that average Patrick!"

Chapter 3 The New Chairman

"I will be controlling everyone's future, and I will also be as wealthy as I have always dreamed of!"

Closing his eyes, Patrick took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

Something about him seemed to have changed.

It was his hope for the future that was rekindled after a long difficult life of poverty.

Now, he felt a lot more confident than before.

All of a sudden, Patrick opened his eyes.

There was a hint of sparkle, a strong sense of determination, and an indomitable will in them.

"He started from scratch, and it took him decades to achieve great success. But now that I already have the foundation that he laid out for me, I can do a lot better than him!" Patrick said slowly, but his tone was very firm.

After all, a man's promise was comparable to the value of gold. And Patrick made his promise now. However, he still found it difficult to address that man as his father.

Elvin left his phone number and left.

Holding the black credit card, which was still warm to the touch, Patrick felt like it was all a dream.

He had been a poor man living in the slum, but now, he was rich. He was determined to make the ones that insulted him pay for what they did to him. No one would dare to look down upon him now.

"Mr. Nelson, I have done everything that you asked me to do."

"Well... How are they doing? And how is their life?" There was a long moment of silence on the other end of the line. Walter's shaky breaths indicated that he was still suffering from guilt over leaving his son and wife.

Walter, who was known as a cold and ruthless business tycoon, had never been as nervous as he was now.

"He accepted the gift you gave him and he has agreed to take over the business in Glouland." Elvin did not answer him. Judging from his conversation with Patrick, he knew that Patrick shared several characteristic traits with Walter. He wanted to pay back people for insulting him.

"That's good! I was really worried that he might refuse. Anyway, I am glad he did!" Walter breathed a sigh of relief and chucked softly, feeling like a weight had been lifted off his chest.

"He is still holding a grudge against you, though. And I am afraid that he may..."

"I understand, and I will make it up to them slowly. So what if he becomes a playboy, it doesn't matter to me. However, if he's capable, I believe that he will be the perfect successor to Nelson Group."

If a person, who was not wise or had a good vision for the future, became rich overnight, they would mostly become playboys.

Walter didn't expect too much from his son. However, his heart was filled with some expectations, just like any father's.

The next morning, the sun was shining brightly, and the Skiyton Hotel was standing tall, compared to all the other buildings in the dazzling heart of the city.

And every morning, the employees would come early to clean the hotel until it was sparkling.

About two hundred people were waiting at the door, from security guards to the vice general manager. Two long rows of people flanked on either side of the red carpet that led to the front desk of the hotel. The one standing in the front was the vice general manager, Judson, who had taken away Patrick's ex-girlfriend.

As he waited for the new chairman to welcome him, he was holding a bottle of the most expensive Lafite he could find in the hotel.

The hotel staff began to whisper to each other.

"What kind of a man is the new chairman? Is he a middle-aged man or an old man?"

"This new chairman must have an unusual relationship with Mr. Nelson. I have rarely ever seen our vice general manager being so respectful to someone."

"Don't talk nonsense. I am sure that the new chairman must be an important person even if he's not friends with Mr. Nelson."

"Elissa told me about it. Who knows whether it's true or not?"

The moment people heard that, they turned to look at the beautiful woman in the crowd.

She was dressed in a black suit, which made her seem very capable and shrewd. Her round and curvy butt attracted many men there.

She was Patrick's ex-girlfriend, Elissa.

When she heard the crowd's discussion, she smiled proudly.

After all, she loved the attention she was getting from them.

With a hint of contempt in her eyes, Elissa said indifferently, "Don't worry. It's completely true. I heard it from vice general manager."

Judson, who was the vice general manager of the hotel, supported her to become one of the lobby managers.

As soon as she took over the position, she began earning almost twenty thousand dollars a month. She was still a college student, and she only worked there part-time. There were many employees, who were jealous of her.

"Elissa is so beautiful, and her words are absolutely reliable!"

"I'm a huge admirer, Elissa. I am definitely going to need your help and guidance someday."

Some employees seized the opportunity to flatter her.

And Elissa was happy to hear that. She was overjoyed to see that her difficult days with Patrick were now over, and her life was finally exactly the way she wanted it to be. Moreover, she had achieved it all on her own.

At this moment, the man they were all waiting for got out of his taxi.

Patrick was dressed formally in a crisp white shirt and black suit pants.

He had purchased the suit to wear it to his neighbor's wedding.

And because he did not have much time on his hands, he had not been able to shop for the event.

"I will be starting a new life from today."
