I hesitated, trying to maintain a straight face. "I'm not going anywhere with you," I said, attempting to stand up.
But he gently pulled me back, his touch sending sparks through my body. "What do you want, Scott?" I asked, trying to sound firm.
"I want you, Katherine," he replied, his voice low and almost pleading. "We really need to talk. Just a few minutes, and I'll be out of your hair."
I relented, feeling defeated. "Fine," I said.
He stood up, his eyes still locked on mine, and I followed suit. He led me outside the school, guiding me toward his car - a sleek 2023 BMW i4. He opened the passenger door, and I couldn't help but be impressed. "Not bad," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.
"Thanks," he replied, his lips curling into a hint of a smile as I got in.
Nice car," I said softly.
"Thank you, Katherine," he replied, sending chills down my spine. I scowled, correcting him. "My name is Jasmine, not Katherine. And how did you even know that name?"
Scott looked nervous, fidgeting with his hands. "Uh, can we talk about that later?"
I raised an eyebrow, skeptical, and shook my head. I quickly texted Ray, letting him know I was okay and would fill him in later.
....
As we arrived at the restaurant, Scott hurried to open my door before I could even move. I wondered how many girls he had done this for. The exterior decor was stunning, and I was curious about the inside.
Upon entering, I was enchanted by the cozy atmosphere. The plush furniture, earthy tones, and soft pastels created a warm and inviting space. Scott led me to a private dining area, which felt modern and snug. The cushion was incredibly soft, making me feel like I could sleep there.
"Are you okay?" Scott asked gently.
"Yes, I am," I replied. "So, what do you want to talk about?" He raised an eyebrow. "So eager to get rid of me, huh?"
I defended quickly, "No, that's not it!" Though I wasn't sure why I felt the need to clarify.
"Oh, so you want to spend time with me?" Scott's smile was breathtaking. I was speechless, lost in his gaze.
You know you can just take a picture, he smirked, I regained my composure and rolled my eyes.
"Cute."
"Scott?" I asked, trying to stay focused. The business?"
"Why did you reject me, Katherine?" he asked bluntly.
My eyes widened in surprise. "Why start with that?"
"Perhaps that was too direct," Scott acknowledged.
"Let me ask something else. Do you regret rejecting me, or is that still what you want?"
I warned, "If you keep asking direct questions, I won't answer any of them."
Scott stared at me for a few seconds before smiling again, leaving me speechless.
"I didn't accept your rejection," he explained calmly. "I feel like I'd be making a mistake if I let you go without understanding why you rejected me. That's why I wanted to see you. I still have lingering feelings, but I don't know about you."
"I...don't know what to say," I admitted lowly.
"Maybe we can try to be on the same page for starters," He suggested.
Scott's expression turned curious. "Are you seeing anyone at the moment?" he asked, a flicker of fear crossing his eyes.
"No, I'm not. Are you?" I countered, trying to sound nonchalant.
Scott smirked. "No, but it's great to see you taking an interest in me."
I rolled my eyes.
"I heard from a little bird that a guy is always around you," Scott said, his voice taking on a slightly growling tone. "Since you're not seeing anyone, who's he then?"
I glared at him. "Why don't you ask your little bird to provide more detailed information next time they spy on someone?"
Scott's nervousness was almost comical, but I refused to be swayed. "I don't appreciate being spied on, Scott."
He apologized, looking remorseful. "It's not like that, Katherine. I was just so interested in you; you didn't leave me with a choice."
My name, "Katherine," sounded strangely pleasant coming from him. I sighed, trying to stay focused.
Raymond is my best friend and the only friend I have," I said. His expression changed, and not for the better, so I added, "He's not interested in girls." Scott's expression softened.
"I'm losing my mind," I thought inwardly.
"Enough about me," I said. "How can you be so charming and not have ladies fawning over you or a particular woman by your side?"
Scott smirked. "Are you saying I'm hot, Katherine?"
I rolled my eyes, thinking, "I have a feeling this guy is going to make me roll my eyes a lot."
"Why are you so cocky?" I asked rhetorically.
Scott chuckled, and I realized everything he did made my heart skip a beat. I hoped I wouldn't need CPR if I spent too much time with him.
"Yeah, I don't want to brag, but they do adore me," Scott said. "I'm an Alpha with honor, and I'm expected to lead by example, especially for my son. I don't have a particular woman by my side; I haven't seen a reason to since my first mate died. It's just been me and my son, trying to be a good father to him."
His voice was soft, and I sensed a hint of sorrow.
"I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your mate," I said sadly. Scott growled softly, and I felt his sorrow. "Was she sick?" I asked.
"No, she died during childbirth, Scott replied, hiding any emotion left.
I feel bad and scared that I might ruin his second chance at happiness, but honestly, I don't know what to do.
After a few minutes of silence, Scott spoke up. "I'm afraid I've taken too much of your time, but I guess it's time we get on the same page, Katherine."
I whispered, "I don't want you to accept my rejection."
Scott's smile indicated he heard me, his werewolf hearing picking up on my soft words.
"Well, that's something, I hope we get to see soon," he said, almost pleading.
"Can I have your phone, please, milady?" he asked, and I handed it over, confused.
He did something on it and returned it to me. I squinted my eyes at him wondering what he did
"Worry not, milady. He said, chuckled
We left the cozy restaurant, and Scott offered to drop me home. I wanted to decline, but since I'd told Raymond to leave without me, I gave Scott directions to my house.
As we arrived, I thanked him, but before I could open the door, he already had, his werewolf speed leaving me impressed. "Thank you for the gesture," I said, waiting for him to leave.
However, Scott didn't budge, insisting I enter my home before he left. I smiled and went inside, only to scream immediately...
