Chapter 4

"Prince Liam, I am fully aware of Princess Kylie's health status, " Leland remarked with disdain as he glanced at Liam.

"Whether she can conceive is another matter. Even if she does, she can only give birth to a red-tailed merman."

The Merman King valued his offspring greatly, yet Leland didn't mention it.

With a chuckle, he dismissed us.

Liam, unwilling to see me disrespected, coldly reprimanded, "Watch your words, Leland!"

Leland, unfazed and full of smugness, retorted, "Where am I wrong? Princess Kylie is only capable of bearing a red-tailed merman cub!"

"As for me, I'm carrying two black-tailed merman cubs. If anything happens to me, even your lives won't be enough to compensate!"

Her confidence stemmed from the fact that this life seemed to follow the same pattern as my past one.

In the past, three days after being with Blaine, I conceived two black-tailed merman cubs, while she only conceived a red-tailed merman cub six months later.

Her ability to bear children was never capable of producing black-tailed mermen.

"Is that so? Then I wish you many blessings, " I replied calmly, certain that Blaine would set her straight once they returned.

Sure enough, as soon as Liam and I returned to the residence, we heard the staff's whispers.

Apparently, after Blaine and Leland returned, there was quite a commotion, and not long after, Leland began bleeding and went into labor!

Leland was experiencing a premature birth.

The process differs slightly between humans and mermen.

After becoming pregnant, I had learned a bit about it.

The Merman King, fearing complications, commanded me to assist.

The healer dared not linger; I noticed the scars on Leland's body, harsher than those I bore during my first childbirth.

But this was just the beginning.

It would only grow more bizarre from here.

"Kylie, watch closely as I give birth to black-tailed merman cubs!

I am the one destined for wealth, luxury, and a long life!"

Leland taunted weakly, eager to deliver her cubs.

However, the violent encounter with Blaine had severely torn her birth canal, causing heavy bleeding.

After two full hours, a child was finally delivered.

The tail was shockingly red.

I purposefully cradled the red-tailed merman cub and approached Leland with joy.

"Sister, don't sleep just yet. Look, one cub is already out, and he looks just like his father!"

Seeing this, Leland was so shocked by the cub's appearance that she nearly fainted, shouting in horror, "Impossible!

This can't be my cub! I was supposed to have a black-tailed cub. How could this lowly creature come from me?"

"You must have switched them out of envy!

There's still another one inside me. Healer, get it out immediately! If anything happens to my black-tailed merman cub, I won't let you off easily!"

The healer, frightened, turned pale with fear.

"Ma'am, just a bit more push, and it will be out soon!"

The second child was born.

Leland, weak yet desperate, urged, "Quick, show me my black-tailed merman cub!"

The healer, wiping the sweat from his brow, brought the cub over.

"No, this can't be real!"

Leland looked at the red-tailed merman cub in disbelief, her eyes rolling back in anger as she fainted.

The Merman King and Blaine, having heard Leland boast about carrying black-tailed merman cubs, naturally assumed she was telling the truth.

At the very least, they expected a silver or purple-tailed cub.

Never did they imagine that both merman cubs would be red-tailed!

In the merman society, red-tailed mermen are considered the lowest caste due to their lack of prowess, weak and subjugated, seen as a mark of servitude and shame.

Even ordinary mermen would be mortified to have a red-tailed child, let alone the royal family.

It was the greatest joke among the mermen.
