Chapter 7 Rejection

My feet felt like they were planted deep into the ground. Like,I suddenly managed to forget how to move. As my knees failed me, I slid my back down the cold feel of the door, till my butt kissed the floor. My knees curled up to my chest as I sat, head against the sexual banging door. Mentally trapped, I realized I was too weak to think of what next to do and too paralysed to get up. "Excuse me ma'am." A security officer beckoned at me. "Are you okay?" he asked. Tucking his gun into his pouch. His presence and question felt like what I needed to get my head thinking again.

"Is this your car?" He asked again. I shook my head solemnly and gently mustered all the strength I had and stood up. The subtle movement of the vehicle, however pulled his attention and as he walked closer to inspect it, he heard the sexual sounds coming from inside, which concerned him to clear his throat. "You shouldn't be here ma'am." He said lightly. "You are infringing on peoples privacy." I let out a croaky chuckle. "People?". I thought to myself. I nodded my head without a word. My eyes bloodshot red and my cheeks swollen to pumps as I staggered. "Please be safe ma'am." Said the officer who was filled with nothing but pity and concern for me. "Or would you require special attention?" He asked. and in response, I gave him a curt nod and continued the stagger. But then, the officer held a firm grip on my arm. His grey and precise eyes looked like they were filled with a thousand experience with life. "Now, I don't know you, neither have I met you before but, I know for one thing sure." He paused and continued. "A beautiful young lady like you once had so much spark that could light up a room." "And I may not know what the situation here is also, " he sighed as he turned to look at Derricks vehicle still shaking subtly. "But I know, you should let no one steal your spark." No one has the permission to do that." "He should be under arrest for such a thing." He extended a smile saying. "Thank you officer." I whispered as his words fell on my ears. Extending what appeared to be a smile as a sign of gratitude. "I'm just doing my job." He answered. And that truly was all he was doing. "My spark." I thought. It was probably in the bin rotting already. I scoffed. In a matter of days all the spark I had in me was put out. Thanks to Derrick. His bizarre change in character and mood swings swung me through different emotions. I picked up my pace, avoiding the curious eyes of people who had little concern for why a tired looking lady had her eyes bloodshot red. My feet had begun to hurt from the long distance I walked. The sun scorched me thin and burned me out. I couldn't decide if leaving my purse and credit card inside Derricks car was truly a good decision or not. But I couldn't bring myself to open the door, that way, they would see the hurt in me. I couldn't let them see me so weak. I slumped my shoulder as I thought. "Trick or treat!" Shouted a bunch of young teenagers. Their eyes glimmering with mischief. Was it Halloween already? I thought. I managed to extend a false smile. "Not today kids." I said weakly. But they exchanged knowing looks. Their ears turning a bright shade of red from eagerness. They immediately pulled out their toy water guns from behind their backs and totally drenched my face. "What the!!!!!" I yelled. Visibly frustrated. My hair dripped water down into my clothes, soaking me up completely and I stood just by the walkway hoping the ground could swallow me up. And swallow me up fast. "Kids can be so annoying." Said a middle aged lady as she approached me with a napkin. "But they are still kids." She extended a smile. "Thank you " I muttered. She took me by my hands and led me into an open window cafeteria. "I'm not the one you should be thanking." She squeezed my hands saying. Then she pointed at a table. "He's the one who sent a towel to you." I cocked my head. Giving her hand a lighter squeeze. "Ma'am, there's no one on the table. I said quietly. "Yes I was at the table, but now I'm here." A voice said from behind. I immediately turned to the sound of the voice. "Drew..." my breath hitched. I tried to steady my heartbeat but there were so many emotions running through me at the same time. still, I couldn't help but notice how neat he looked. He had a black leather coat on and underneath, you could see a nice paired white loosened collar, peeking out a little skin. For a split moment, I let my mind wander to what his skin would feel like over my body, comforting me , touching me and loving me. His skilled hands would most definitely know how to make a woman beg for mercy. I thought. I took in sharp air. Trying to steady the insane and burning feeling that spread through my body and down in-between my thighs. I had to stop this. I pinched my self saying, taking my eyes off his skin I drifted to his shoes. Of course he had a nice pair of Italian shoes. But his scent was so thick, I craved to be pulled into him. I took my eyes off him totally, looking everywhere else but him, till my eyes landed on a mirror-like object that reflected how I looked. I bit my lips. Suddenly feeling small. and his presence only amplified how terrible I looked. I hated that he had to see me looking this haggard. "Mrs Rebecca." He said softly. "No,..no..um. Rebecca. Rebecca is just fine." I lifted my head a bit too fast saying. then I caught his eyes. Those Sinful pair of Forest deep green eyes. He held up my gaze for a few seconds before I looked away. His eyes held no emotions in them. Why was I all so nervous suddenly, so self conscious, so distracted. Maybe because he wasn't smiling, or he wasn't trying to get my attention. Or maybe because he seemed so present yet so distant. "Mrs Rebecca works for me." He said. And there was something off about his voice. He wasn't stern. Just formal.and uninterested. "Oh..." Those were the only words that could escape my lips. I squeezed the towel, staring at it hard because that was the only item that wasn't dishing out bizarre disinterest to me. "I should go." I pursed my lips saying. "Mrs Rebecca,... " He opened his mouth to say something. "No, I should go." He said. Walking right past me.
