Chapter 6 Chapter 6 That bad

*JANELLE*

"Go on. Pick more dresses. Buy anything you want," I heard the man say dotingly to the woman.

I was startled when I heard a voice behind me.

"That room is for VIPs. You can't go in. Use that one instead."

It was the sales attendant from earlier.

"Oh." I nodded at her and headed to the right room.

While I was changing my clothes in the fitting room, I kept thinking about the man and the woman. In their conversation, it seemed they had mentioned the Moore family.

Could it be about my family?

Was that man my soon-to-be husband?

I hadn't seen his face, though.

But I couldn't help but wonder.

After changing clothes, I stepped out of the fitting room and looked towards the VIP room. The door was now closed properly.

"You look good, ma'am," the attendant said to me.

I had to admit she had good taste. She seemed able to pick out suitable clothes for someone right away.

I was wearing a light blue dress, which made my skin look even lighter. The lace around my waist outlined my slender figure. I was skinny, but my features were very delicate.

I felt really beautiful in this dress.

And it seemed my so-called father was fine with it as well.

He paid and said in a cold voice, "Let's go."

I knew he was heartless, but I still felt sad and hurt by his coldness.

I lowered my head and followed him into the car.

*********

Soon the car stopped in front of the Moore family's villa gate.

The driver opened the door for Gary. He bent down and stepped out of the car, and I followed him.

Standing at the door of the villa, I was lost in a trance for a few seconds.

It was hard to believe that I once lived here, so comfortably.

I used to live here with my mother, Danica, and Gary.

But then one day, we were kicked out and forced to live miserably, while my father and his mistress happily stayed in this huge villa. What did we ever do to deserve that?

My jaw tightened.

"Why are you still standing there?"

Gary, already by the huge doors, turned around and glared at me.

I quickly walked up to him. When Gary heard from the servants that the O'Connells family hadn't arrived yet, he told me to wait in the living room.

There was a piano near the French windows in the living room- German-made, exquisitely expensive.

My mother had bought it for me on my seventh birthday.

I loved music as a child and began learning piano at the age of four and a half.

After Gary sent us away, I never played the piano again.

I couldn't help but reach out my hand-the memory of playing the piano made me excited.

I placed my index finger on a piano key and gently pressed it. With a clank, a melodious and crisp sound came from the piano. Because I hadn't played for a long time, my fingers were quite stiff.

"Get your dirty hands off my piano!" an angry voice snarled behind me.

My piano?

I turned around and saw Kara standing behind me, looking annoyed.

I remembered that I was one year older than her.

She should be twenty now.

She took after her mother in almost every way, especially her looks.

Yes, I hated to admit it, but my father's mistress was very beautiful.

And so, Kara was incredibly pretty as well.

"Your piano?"

They ruined my mother's marriage and took everything. Now even my mother's gift to me had fallen into her hands?

My fists clenched as I tried very hard to control my temper.

I had to be patient because I didn't have the ability to take back what belonged to me now.

I had to endure, because soon, I wouldn't need to tolerate this.

I was no longer the little girl who had been cast aside years ago and only knew how to cry.I had grown up!

And I was going to get back on my feet.

"So, you're Janelle," Kara drawled, staring at me from head to toe.

"I bet you're happy that Dad brought you back?" Kara crossed her arms over her chest and looked at me with disdain. "Don't be too happy. You'll marry into the O'Connells family. Everyone knows that the man is." Kara paused and then burst out laughing.

I frowned. "What do you know about him?"

I was still wondered why Gary would have me marry a billionaire instead of Kara.

I already knew there had to be something wrong with that billionaire.

Because if there wasn't, Gary would never have bothered to come find me.

But whatever was wrong with that man, it couldn't be that bad, right?
