Chapter 6 6

DONOVAN.

I rolled over, grabbing my phone off the nightstand, intending to send a message to Adrian, wanting to know how things were back at the mansion.

But the bastard called before I could so much as input my password on the device.

It's a shrill ringing alerting the whore that was sprawled across my bed like she owned it.

"I was about to send you a text," I muttered, placing the phone to my ear.

"Good morning to you, too," he drawled.

I sit up. "Is everything good back home?" I asked, ignoring his snide remark, already used to his antics

"Yep."

I nodded slowly.

"Have you handled Dante?"

I scoffed, "The stupid rat, as usual, weaselled his way out of it."

"I don't understand." He replied.

"You will when I come back home."

And then I ended the call.

"I know you ain't blind because you can clearly see that it's dawn already, so why are you still here?" I said, coolly to the woman as I reached for my pack of cigarettes by the nightstand.

"I thought you would-"

"Get off my bed before I splatter your brains on my bedroom floor," I mumbled, my tone casual like I was talking about the weather.

I felt her freeze.

The atmosphere completely changed.

I took a drag from the cigarette, the familiar burn of nicotine filling my lungs, and I exhaled slowly.

"You could at least feed me first before sending me out like some slut," she shakily whispered under her breath, standing up and picking her dress from the floor.

I nearly snorted out loud.

"I thought that was what you were," I retorted.

It was clear she was embarrassed and maybe a little hurt, but that wasn't my cup of tea.

She had already fulfilled the purpose for which I sent for her last night, so nothing was keeping her here.

The sex wasn't even that great.

It could be because a certain brunette was on my mind when I was fucking whatever her name was.

She wouldn't even be here if that little bitch hadn't turned me down.

I was pent up badly and needed a release, but I was starting to regret my decision, seeing as this wench was trying to act clingy.

Can't a man have a normal one-night stand anymore?

Just a night with you and they are already thinking of wedding bells.

"So, this is it? It's over? I thought we felt a connection last night?"

I flicked the ash from my cigarette.

"Yes, the same connection I'm sure you have felt with most of the men in this city," I replied smoothly.

Her cheeks turned beet-red.

"Get out," I added coldly, my patience now thin.

She was almost out the door when I recalled something.

"One of my men will give you a pill, don't make a fuss and drink it."

"A pill for what?" She scrunched her nose.

"A precaution. I don't want any surprises," I deadpanned, gesturing towards her stomach.

"But you wore a condom."

"Like I said....just a precaution."

Nodding, she finally left.

I leaned back on the headboard, more than grateful for the silence, but it came at a price, because now my brain was focused on the little trouble that was four doorsteps away from me.

I had met many women in my life, too many, but none of them has made me feel this way.

So out of control.

There was just something about her that I couldn't explain.

She wasn't even beautiful if I were to be honest.

And definitely not my type.

I preferred blondes, not brunettes, but for whatever reason, she has refused to leave my damn mind.

Maybe it's because she isn't afraid to talk back.

She doesn't keep silent whenever I throw a jab at her.

As much as it's infuriating, I will admit it is refreshing to have someone-a female, no less- stand up to me.

My lips twitched at the thought.

She even tried to escape.

This girl has no idea the power I have over this city and the country at large.

There is no place on this planet that she would escape to that I wouldn't find her.

She was mine now, whether she liked it or not.

For once, Dante did something right.

Something tells me she's going to cause a lot of chaos.

But that wouldn't be a problem, after all; chaos was what I was known for.

It's clear she wants me, but she's fighting it.

I'm going to break that wild spirit of hers till she finally realises and comes to terms with what her life is now.

There is no escaping this.

Not now.

Not ever.

A knock at the door stops me from my thoughts.

"Enter."

One of my men walked in.

"What is it, Carlo?" I asked.

"Boss, I just came to remind you about your meeting with Don Pedro."

I nodded. "And where is the meeting taking place?"

"At the auction house, Boss."

Of course, that sicko would pick that spot.

He was nothing but a perverted old bastard.

But to the rest of the world, he was a philanthropist, a good father and husband.

They had no clue that he was nothing but a monster.

A wolf in sheep's clothing.

I wasn't a saint either-far from it, but there were some lines I didn't cross.

"Get the car ready," I instructed. "And make sure the men coming with us are heavily armed. We need to be prepared in case shit goes down tonight."

"Alright, Boss, but I don't think he will be so stupid as to pull any stunt. He knows it won't end well for him." Carlo muttered.

"Don Pedro may look dumb, but I assure you he isn't, and the first rule you must follow if you want to survive in this business is not to underestimate any mother fucker."

I stood up from the bed.

"Got that?"

He nods once and then shuts the door as he leaves.

Now to begin my day.

And this time, let's see if it doesn't end in blood and death.
