Chapter 7

I had no intention of dragging this out further, but Tonya just wouldn't let it go. "Kody, I picked a bag that would be better suited for Clara, but she is still unhappy."

"How could that be? She's just saying she doesn't like it." Kody spoke as he walked towards me with the bag in hand, approaching with an intimidating presence.

"Take it. Don't upset Tonya," he said with a stern face.

Seeing my lips pressed tightly together, he sighed softly, his tone softening. "Are you still angry about the wedding? When did you become so stingy? I've been bending over backwards to make it up to you."

He made it up to me?

He casually gave away a bag meant for me to Tonya, letting her insult me with a used, old bag.

So that was his idea of making it up to me.

I had seen Kody sweetly coax Tonya, ready to move mountains for her.

His favoritism was obvious, yet he wanted me to believe I was indispensable to him.

Realizing all this, I didn't want to waste my time with him.

With some effort, I pulled my hand back and stepped back two paces. "There's nothing to be angry about. I've been through this before."

Kody's expression turned cold in an instant. "I said the wedding will be moved to next week, not completely cancelled. What more do you want?"

"Nothing."

I felt so helpless that I didn't know how to react. "Just cancel it, Kody. Whether it's next week or the week after, you'll still leave me alone."

I calmly stated a fact everyone knew, but it seemed to provoke Kody unexpectedly. He was furious. "Cancel? Are you sure?"

"I'm sure."

He let out a cold laugh. "Clara, you'd better cool off before we continue discussing the wedding."

"I'm very calm," I said, enunciating each word clearly, catching a glimpse of Tonya's stunned expression.

She seemed unable to believe I could really give up on this wedding.

It was as if everyone around me thought I had to marry Kody, no matter how much he wronged or embarrassed me.

Even Kody himself believed this.

He took a deep breath, as if trying hard to suppress a storm of anger. "There's a limit to being angry. We'll discuss the wedding tonight."

I scoffed and turned to leave.

I was not free at night, and I would never be free in the future.

Watching my figure grow more distant, Kody was completely stunned.
