"Mrs. Turner, you are here, I never expected that you would be at the mall today," Melanie heard a familiar voice, and she and Mabel instinctively turned.
"Ace Cromwell, it's been a while, we came shopping today, your presence is also surprising," Melanie had a beautiful smile on her face as she stared at Mabel who looked lost staring at Ace.
"Miss Turner, am I that handsome?" Ace's hearty voice broke Mabel's view. His words prompted her to cough.
Melanie chuckled as she patted her daughter's back. She was not expecting that Ace could have such an effect on her daughter.
"I thought today was your tryout for bridal dresses, didn't you go? Or are you back? I recall Alex just left the house," Ace asked with a gossipy tone. He felt that there was more than met the eye.
"She is calling off the wedding," Melanie informed him.
Ace raised his eyebrows as he stared at Mabel, who was too shy to meet his eyes. He was genuinely shocked by her actions.
"Is that so? And have you told him about it?" Ace asked with folded arms.
"I haven't, I feel it is best to let him see for himself, I would rather not have any relationship with him anymore, he isn't worth it," Mabel spoke up for the first time, causing a smile to blossom on Ace's face.
This was the first time he was hearing her voice, and he had to admit, he loved the fierceness and tenacity in it.
"I understand, Mrs. Turner, my offer is still on, you know," Ace had a small smile on his lips as his eyes darted between the two ladies.
"Yes, I have informed her about it, and she is ready to get married to you, I believe you must be excited about this arrangement," Melanie spoke up immediately.
She felt better knowing that Ace still kept his offer. It was truly the best thing that happened to their Turner Family.
"Miss Turner, I hope you are not being forced to take this step, I would want for us to get married on mutual terms," Ace asked. He had brought them to his lounge as his company was the main investor in the mall.
Mabel who was seated stared at him with wide eyes. She was silent for a while, and her silence worried Melanie, but it wasn't for long.
"Nobody is forcing me to get married to you, it is my free will, I do desire to get married to you," Mabel stated with a clear conviction.
Ace chuckled as he tapped his finger on his table softly.
"Miss Turner, pardon me for what I am about to ask, but you were madly in love with my brother, why are you choosing to call off the wedding?" Ace asked, feeling genuinely curious about this.
Mabel swallowed slightly. What was she to say? She could only use the same dream technique she used on her sister and mother on him.
Ace stared at her. He did not know whether he were to believe her or not. His gut told him she was lying, but she was lying about, he was completely clueless about it.
"And also, I found Alex and Ivy cheating on me, do you think I would want to get married to a cheat?" Mabel asked. She could sense he did not completely buy her dream story, she could only add this to it.
"You finally found out about it," Ace spoke up with relief.
"Were you aware of it?" Mabel questioned as she squinted at him.
Ace cleared his throat slightly as he wondered whether he should tell her the truth or not.
"Answer me, Mr. Cromwell," Mabel's voice rose an octave louder.
"Yes, I am aware of it, but what does it have to do with you finding out about his cheating? If I had told you, would you have believed me?" Ace asked with a shrug of his shoulders.
The energy which she felt earlier got depleted immediately. What he said was the truth.
While she was busy thinking back on her outburst, her phone rang.
Melanie's and Ace's gaze turned to her, and she smiled forcefully before bringing her phone out.
Mabel's hands around her phone were clenched tightly, seeing who had called.
"Why aren't you picking your call?" Melanie asked.
"The right question should be, who called? Mrs. Turner," Ace corrected her with a raise of his brows.
Melanie turned to the silent Mabel, who shook his head.
"It's Alex, I bet he must be calling seeing that I haven't shown up, it is going to hurt his ego, after all, he isn't used to waiting for me," Mabel muttered in a low voice as she contemplated answering the call or not.
Melanie sensed her daughter's turmoil, and she urged her to pick the call-up.
"Pick it, and end everything once and for all," Melanie urged, and Mabel turned to look at her mom who gave her a reassuring smile.
As she was about to pick the call, it suddenly got disconnected. Mabel breathed out, Alex had never been a patient person, and he proved it time and time again.
Soon enough, the phone rang again, but this time around, Mabel picked it up within seconds.
"Where are you?" She heard the person on the other end thunder with fury.
She seemed to have anticipated his actions; thus, she had moved her phone away from her ears, so as not to hurt her eardrums.
"You had better calm down, I can hear you properly, I do not have an ear problem," Mabel commented nonchalantly.
Alex, who was waiting for her in the bridal shop, suppressed his annoyance against her.
"Where are you? You are supposed to be here now," Alex asked, putting away his rude attitude earlier on.
Mabel was silent for a moment, causing Alex to have a foreboding.
"I am calling off the wedding, I would rather not get married to you anymore," Mabel uttered with firmness in her voice.
"What do you mean by that?" Alex, who was sitting on the sofa in the shop, stood up with his face red, yelling out the question.
