Chapter 10 Chapter 10 Making breakfast for him

　　Zara was trying to get some sleep. However, when she thought that Nicholas was just a few yards away from her, she couldn't even close her eyes. She kept on tossing and turning.

　　After a long time also when she couldn't fall asleep, she got up from the bed and went out to the balcony. A mild breeze hit her body the moment she stepped out, and it was sending a soothing sensation to her excited nerves. She felt relaxed and inhaled profoundly. However, the smell of tobacco hit her nostrils.

　　She frowned slightly and sniffed, looking here and there as if she was searching for the source of the smell. Just when she turned her head to the left side, she saw Nicholas smoking a cigarette on the balcony attached to the master bedroom. They were separated by only one room. She gawked at him in astonishment, her expression perplexed. Nicholas turned his head simultaneously and saw her. Their eyes locked instantly.

　　Zara skipped a bit the moment she made eye contact with him. She blinked twice and kept staring at him dumbly, mouth agape. A few moments later, she regained her senses and ran inside the room. She locked the glass door to the balcony and leaned against it, placing her hand on her chest, closing her eyes. Her chest was moving up and down vigorously as her breathing was fast.

　　She was restless, so she went outside to calm down. But who would have thought that she would encounter him? Now she was even more anxious than before. She was doomed to stay awake for the rest of the night.

　　Nicholas, on the other end, frowned deeply when he saw her running inside frantically. He had never seen such a weird woman in his life. Most women were drawn to his charm and wanted to get closer to him. She was the first woman who ran away after seeing him. She even didn't want to stay in the same room with him.

　　'Is she abnormal?'

　　He wondered how she was not affected by his charisma. He extinguished the cigarette and looked in the direction of the guest room with complex feelings in his heart. At this point, he did not know exactly what he was feeling. But he didn't like the way she ran inside. He thought she was ignoring him.

　　How dare she ignore him?

　　This thought made him angry, and his expression darkened. Who gave her the right to disregard him? Only he had the right in this marriage if he would give her face or not. She was only his contract bride, a puppet of his. He needed to have a good talk with her. His fists tightened on his sides in anticipation.

　　Zara didn't sleep at all that night. She woke up at the dawn break and quickly freshened up. It was the first morning after her marriage that she had a chance to have breakfast with him. Although she was palpitating thinking that she would meet him again, she did not want to make any mistakes or act foolishly in front of him. Not only that, but she needed his permission to go to the banquet this weekend.

　　When she agreed with Isaac, she did not worry about Nicholas because he and she did not stay together in the villa. She could go anywhere with no restrictions. However, the situation has changed now. She couldn't do anything willfully without his permission.

　　After thinking this, she decided to make breakfast for him. She made toasts and scrambled eggs, and brewed coffee as well. By the time she finished making breakfast, Nicholas came down wearing his black suits with a briefcase in his hand.

　　Zara ran towards him, "Um. Good morning." She tried to put a smile on her face and said, "Breakfast is ready. Please have that before you leave."

　　He looked at her for a while before answering, "I have a meeting in an hour."

　　He left soon after saying these words.

　　Zara's excitement vanished when she saw him going out without having breakfast. She cooked for him with fervor and wished him to eat. She even looked forward to him saying something about her culinary skills subconsciously. In the end, it turned out that it was only her willful wish that would never come true.

　　Why did she forget that he had no feelings for her?

　　She didn't want to cry, but the tears still accumulated inside her eyes. She sniffed and looked around, blinking continuously. A bitter smile crept on her face. Then she came to the kitchen, filled a plate with the toast and scrambled eggs, and poured a cup of coffee.

　　After taking a few bites on the toast, she was no longer able to eat. Tears that threatened to fall, finally, found their way to escape. But she wiped off the tears ruthlessly and forcefully ate whatever she took for herself.

　　After changing into a black skirt and a white shirt, she went to work. Half an hour later, she reached the office and went to her desk. Just as she took out her diary to check Isaac's schedule, someone knocked on her desk. She looked up and saw Isaac standing beside her with a frown on his face.

　　She got up from the chair and smiled, "Good morning, Mr. White. I was about to walk into your office...".

　　"I have waited for you in front of your apartment. I don't see you coming out. When did you come here?"

　　Isaac didn't wait for her to finish speaking. He waited for her outside the apartment for one hour, hoping that he would surprise her, but she never came out. He wanted to wait a bit longer, however, he got a call from Jayden Cooper. So, he had to leave reluctantly. But unexpectedly, he found her at her desk. He wondered how she reached the office before him.

　　His words stunned Zara. Her smile also disappeared gradually. For a few moments, she couldn't understand what to say. After contemplating for a while, she said, "Uh. I. well, don't go to the apartment to wait for me. I'll be embarrassed if I get caught with you. You know what I mean." She looked at him with an imploring look.

　　Isaac opened his mouth to say something, but in the end, he couldn't say it out loud and clear and ended up staring at her with complex feelings in his heart. He wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend. He wanted to express his feelings to her. However, he was unable to muster his courage. Maybe he needed some more time to get close to her.

　　"Alright. I won't wait for you outside your apartment, but will you allow me to drive back home?"

　　His fingers were crossed inside the pockets.

　　Zara hesitated for some time. After thinking that, it would save a few minutes if she took the ride and could spend a little longer with her mother and brother, she agreed with him, "Okay."

　　Zara offered a smile to him and earned a grin from him.

　　"Alright. Our company is in the process of signing a new contract. Go bring the file from Mr. Cooper and come to my office, hmm?"

　　"Okay, Mr. White."

　　She turned to leave, but before that Isaac again spoke, "I told you to call me Isaac."

　　Zara chuckled and looked down, biting her bottom lip. She nodded and looked up at him, "Alright, Isaac."

　　Isaac smiled and gazed at her lips. He resisted the impulse to kiss her. His fingers were itching to caress her cheek. However, he couldn't dare to do that. His hands in his pocket curled up into fists. He turned around and marched to his office without a word.

　　Zara went to Jayden Cooper's office to fetch the file. On the way, she encountered Jude.

　　"Oh, my lucky girl. Finally, I found you." Jude grinned widely. "How is our CEO? Is he tough to deal with? How are you doing with him?"

　　Zara smiled and replied shortly, "He is good."

　　Jude sighed dramatically, "I really envy you. You are lucky enough to work closely with him." Her smile resumed, and she added, "But I am happy for you. You finally got promoted."

　　"Thank you."

　　Zara smiled and looked down. Meanwhile, she remembered something and asked frantically, "Can you go shopping with me?"

　　"Yeah, why not?" Jude exclaimed excitedly. "I just love shopping. I was planning to go shopping this weekend. A sale is going on at the downtown mall. We can go there."

　　Zara shook her head and said, "No. I want to buy a dress. uh. I mean." She cleared her throat before saying, "Mr. White asked me to accompany him to a banquet. I do not have a dress suitable for these occasions."

　　"Oh, I see." Jude's expression turned pensive. She thought for a while and smiled widely, "I know a place where you can buy dresses for such parties. It would be a bit costly though. But there are other dresses too, that we can afford. We can go and have a look."

　　"Alright. See you later. I got to go now."

　　After parting with Jude, she went to Jayden Cooper's office and brought the file of the new project. She headed to the CEO's office.

　　Isaac checked the file thoroughly and said, "Hmm. I have already talked to President Grantham about this project. Go sign this contract."

　　Zara's scalp went numb to hear the name, President Grantham. In Bey city, there was only one man called President Grantham, and he was none other than her husband Nicholas Grantham. Every time she heard that name, she began to palpitate, and that moment was not exceptional either. She wanted to minimize the chances to encounter him. It was better for him as well as her, she thought.

　　When Isaac noticed her troubled look, he frowned and couldn't restrain himself from asking, "Is everything alright?"

　　His words broke her trance, and she looked at him hesitantly. She licked her lips and asked warily, "Can. Can you send someone else? I. I kinda feel that I will make a mistake, and he will refuse to sign the contract."

　　Isaac frowned even more deeply and asked, "Do you know him?"

　　"No." She shook her head in a frenzy. "I mean, yes. Who doesn't know him in Bey city? I heard that he is pretty strict, cold, aloof."

　　"Alright, I understand." Isaac laughed softly and interrupted her. "Don't worry. He won't eat you. And if he bullies you, just call me. I will make him regret it."
