Chapter 5 The Awakening Flame

Amelia sat beside the flickering fire in the center of the Sanctuary, her arms wrapped around her knees.

The night felt heavy, charged, like the forest was holding its breath. Kael had gone quiet since revealing the prophecy, pacing near the stone altar with furrowed brows and a clenched jaw.

She finally broke the silence. "So, let me get this straight. Some mystical fire seal chose me... I'm bonded to a guy I barely know who can turn into a wolf... and I'm supposed to lead an entire clan of werewolves?"

Kael didn't turn to look at her. "It's not just about you and me. This goes back generations. The Fire Queen doesn't just lead, she either saves us or destroys us. And I won't lie, Amelia... the last one burned her mate alive."

Her stomach flipped. "Oh, fantastic. So the odds are great for you."

He finally turned, his amber eyes glowing faintly. "I don't care about the odds. I care about you surviving."

Before she could reply, the fire in the pit surged upward with a roar. Amelia screamed, stumbling back. From within the flames, a symbol flickered: two wolves entwined, encircled by fire and thorns. Her mark glowed in response, burning hot against her skin.

Kael grabbed her by the shoulders. "It's awakening. The flame is choosing you fully now."

"Choosing me for what?" she cried, trembling as the mark pulsed. Visions began to swirl in her mind: Kael bleeding in battle, a silver-eyed woman laughing cruelly, fire devouring the forest, and herself... standing on a throne of ash.

The fire died down as quickly as it had risen, leaving the clearing in stunned silence. Amelia gasped for air, her body damp with sweat. "I-I saw something." Kael nodded grimly.

"The future. Or at least... one possible path." Amelia looked up at him, heart racing. "And the other path?" He hesitated. "If we don't bond, if you run, the clans fall. And you... You die."
