Chapter 4

"Sophia, how dare you cry after betraying me?" Nixon's words were so vicious as he gripped my injured arm tightly.

The lingering scent of Amara's perfume on him churned my stomach.

He condemned me without hearing my explanation.

"Betraying you?" I clenched my teeth and sneered, "Nixon, open your eyes and have a look. She is your sister."

His pupils contracted sharply, and then he sneered, "Really? You can tell that lie when talking to the police."

With that, he wrapped his arm around Amara and walked toward his luxury car.

"Sophia... it hurts so much..." Vivian's cries snapped me back to reality. In a panic, I searched the ground for my phone and desperately contacted someone else.

"Hey, Nixon." Amara leaned out of the car. She tapped her bright red nails on the window. "Your ex-wife seems to care a lot about that little troublemaker, doesn't she?"

My blood froze instantly.

"Boom!" The engine was started, leaving my mind blank.

Amara had indeed started the car. The tires screeched against the pavement, and smoke rose as the car charged straight at Vivian.

"Vivian!" I rushed forward madly, but the bodyguard left behind kicked me hard in the knee.

The searing pain forced me to the ground. Blood and dust choked me.

"Screech-" The tires screeched against the pavement as I watched the car narrowly miss Vivian's clothing. She flew like a ragdoll tossed aside before landing heavily on the road.

"Hahh!" Amara rolled down the window, laughing. "Nixon, look! Half-dead is the most troublesome."

"Then do it again. Betrayers don't end well." Nixon's voice was as cold as ice.

I shook my head frantically, and tears mixed with blood on my face.

Vivian lay there, bleeding. Her hands still reached out and tried to grasp something warm. Just like when I first found her, she rejected the world and searched for something to protect her.

Amara stepped out of the car in her heels and walked to Vivian. She nudged her face with her toe. "Nixon, why not crush her directly? She might ask for money later."

Nixon fell silent at her words.

But I knew that he agreed with Amara as he kept silent.

"No... You can't... please..." I begged desperately and tried to awaken his last humanity.

Nixon listened to my pleas and further confirmed that Vivian was my illegitimate daughter.

As the red sports car roared again, I heard myself let out a primal scream.

Sitting in the car, Nixon looked at me with disdain.

"Buzz-" The helicopter's roar suddenly tore through the sky.

Nixon frowned and looked up. Then he froze upon seeing the emblem of the Blakely's private security team. How did they show up there?
