I winced in pain and lowered my face as the memories flooded back. It was him. He was the man from that night-the man I had given my virginity to without any regrets.
The realization made the blood running in my back turn cold. She-wolf whimpered-she knew it too. My one-night stand was the Lycan king?
My head flew back up as I stared intently into his face that was just a few inches from mine.
The crease between his brows softened... he recognised me too.
My heart began beating loudly in my chest... My one-night stand is the Lycan King, and he also happens to be my mate.
I was about to speak when a voice I had long begun to find annoying interrupted...
"You must be mistaken," he began, but the man in front of me didn't turn to listen. He didn't even flinch.
Dylan continued either way. "She cannot be your mate, she is just a lowly omega and a murderer. She killed my father, the Alpha, and even finished off some of your men."
Still no response from him, but more words from Dylan. "You came here seeking her head, and that, I think you should do."
No one could see it, but I could, as he was mere paces away from me. I saw as his eyes reddened in anger and as veins threatened to bulge from his head. It was clear-he was controlling his urge to shift.
I saw his shoulder move, but before I could process his movements, I heard a loud snap.
A gasp tore from everyone's lips, mine included. I looked down to see the remnants of the chain that was tying me in place in his hands. He had snapped them off-with his bare hands, for that matter.
The next thing I felt was a hand on my shoulders. My brows creased as I wondered why he was touching me-but even though I reacted that way, I didn't for one moment hate his touch, which was odd because he is a stranger... but then, he is also my mate.
He seemed to notice my stare as he spoke up the next second. "You were at the edge."
I looked over my shoulder, and he was right. One movement and it would have been bye-bye mobility for me-or worse, goodbye to the world.
"Thank you," I said, releasing myself from his hold.
I moved to the side but snapped my head back to him.
"What do you want?" I asked. It seemed strange that a man would show up here just for me, because like Dylan had said, I really am nothing but a lowly omega. Even my own parents hate me.
"Justice," he said slowly. I looked up at him. Of course, he had come to avenge his men... what was I...
"And what's mine," he added, cutting my thoughts off.
He turned around immediately, my eyes following his movements.
"She is now under my protection," he began, grabbing my wrist in his palm. "Nobody dares to touch her!"
"Any hands raised against her are going to answer directly to me!"
I saw Dylan quiver slightly, and I traced the Lycan King's eyes to see him glaring at Dylan.
I looked around-they all had defiance in their eyes, but their eyes carried one more thing: fear.
Still, I saw readiness mixed with hesitation in some of their eyes. They had objections.
"Your Majesty-" one of the elders finally gathered the courage to speak.
"She is a murderer that killed our Alpha, she-"
I didn't get to hear the rest of his baseless accusations because he didn't get to finish it.
The King had his eyes on him. He looked furious, and then as if concentrating energy, he growled-and that elder, along with the others, fell chest-first to the floor.
Their faces slowly became red as their hands clawed at their throats. They were all struggling to breathe. The sight was horrible, and I could see the petrified look on Dylan's face.
But for some reason... I felt happy about it, because this was the first time someone did something that didn't hurt me-the first time I was ever defended.
My eyes trailed back to him when he stepped down from the platform.
He slowly turned to look at me.
He looked into my eyes and I could feel him staring into my soul.
He raised his hand and brought it forward.
"I won't force you or make you do something against your wish so I'd like to ask, Will you come with me?" he asked, very gently.
I would be lying to say I was not taken aback. The lycan king? The one rumoured to be ruthless? And he is asking me to follow him nicely? Wow!
I looked around. The elders were now on their knees, slowly recovering from his attack. Dylan stood rigid, staring daggers at me but my eyes couldn't miss the scared look in his eyes.
Then Cassandra, my best friend. Her eyes were fixated on me and they were filled with emotions I had never thought I would see in her eyes, let alone directed at me.
She looked at me with venomous hate as she pouted her lips in what I assume to be anger.
Then the final ones, my parents. Their stare was in no way different, my mother looked irritated-like always.
I stilled my mind, there was nothing here for me. I raised my hand and placed it in his.
"I'll come with you!" I said.
Not because I trusted him. Not because I believed I was safe.
But because I need to get out of here.
Escaping him...can come later.
