Chapter 5 Rejection

Alexis and Zoe were on their way to school,when Alexis sighted her crush, Joel, walking to school.

"Hey .... .stop the car"Alexis said to the driver.

"Ok ma'am"he said, bringing the car to a halt.

"Hey Joel,hop in, let's give you a ride,"she said, poking her head out of the window.

"No Alexis,thank you for the offer but I'll just walk to school"Joel declined.

"C'mon Joel you'll run late if you walk"Alexis said putting on a pitiful face.

"Joel,just come with us,you'll run late.Besides,the school isn't a stone's throw and you know you'll get tired if you walk far"Zoe said trying to persuade him too.

"Fine,he said, joining them"

"Welcome!" Alexis said shyly.

The drive was a quiet one,with Alexis stealing glances at Joel.She was in a world where only she and Joel existed.Lost in her imagination,she didn't know when they got to school.

"Alexis!! What are you thinking of"Zoe said, pulling her out of her thoughts.

"Huh...!!"She said, regaining composure.

"I've been calling you for almost five minutes but you were just staring into space and smiling to yourself"Zoe said giving her a knowing look.

"Ohhh... I didn't know we were at school already.She said smiling to herself.

"Bye Joel, I'll see you after school,"she said, waving at him.

"Alright," he said , paying no attention to her.

"Hmmm... .am I sensing a crush..??"Zoe said, giving a playful look.

"What.... No"Alexis said pretending.

"Alexis,I know you remember,"Zoe said.

"Fine,I think I like him,"Alexis admitted shyly.

"Aww ... .he's cute though,I think you guys will make a perfect match"Zoe said giving her the puppy eyes look.

"You think?"Alexis asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes... but you know that's not what you need right now.You need to concentrate on your studies now that we're rounding up college"Zoe said thoughtfully.

"My success doesn't depend on my love life"

"I know,but you don't need distraction and that'll definitely be a distraction"

"Whatever"Alexis said, already walking to class leaving Zoe behind.

At night, Alexis couldn't sleep because she was thinking of Joel and imagining their future together.She eventually decided to tell him how she felt.

"Hey Joel,"Alexis said, her heart pumping hard against her chest.

"Hi,how're you doing?"Joel asked.

"I'm fine.I actually want to tell you something"she said, dropping her head.

"Ok.Go ahead,"Joel said.

"Ok...actually, I've been having a crush on you for a while and I'd like you and I to be a couple,"she said, unsure of how he'll respond.

"Are you being serious right now?"he asked.

"Yes I am,"she responded.

"Well....."he started unsure of how he'll pass it to her.

"Alexis, you're a cute and intelligent lady...but I can't date you,I can't be your boyfriend"he said finally.

"What do you mean by that?"she asked, confused about what she just heard.

"Sorry to say,but you are rude and you're spoiled.i can't picture myself with you knowing my status fully well.You can go for someone of your status"he said

"Did you just reject me?"Alexis asked, tearing up.

"Sorry but I have to,"Joel said and walked away.

Alexis was left heartbroken.

Zoe was trying to console Alexis...toilet paper was scattered on the bed,she had been crying since she got back from school.

"Sorry, don't stress yourself by crying,"Zoe said, trying to pacify her.

"How can I..? I've never been rejected and Joel had the guts to reject me"she said amidst tears.

"Calm down Alexis,you'll find another guy,"she said, hugging Alexis.

"Whatever.To hell with Joel,I'll find another one"Alexis said wiping her tears.

"That's the spirit"Zoe encouraged Alexis.

"Can we now go have lunch...I'm starving"Zoe added holding her tummy.

"I know...I heard you tummy making gurgling sounds"Alexis said laughing and Zoe Joined.
