Chapter 4 Tragic death of his parents

Sat in my room, quiet and in solitude, I hear a commotion go about downstairs. I went to check it out as I see below in the hall.

It's was Nicholas who came back home and decided to throw a fit of anger. I guess it will be my everyday scene from today.

But suddenly, I stop myself from going back into the room when I hear, "Who the fuck did it!? They killed them! They killed my parents!!"

My eyes pop out of my skull.

"What...?" My own shaky voice was just above a whisper.

Trudging down the stairs, almost tripping, I see the man in the most defeated and vulnerable state I've ever seen him in these two days.

His face was all red in anger and mixed emotions. He's lost his parents...?

Then I remember in a glance, a conversation between his sweet mother and I on our wedding night.

"We shall talk later when I get back, sweetness!"

His mother's voice said.

I guess that I can't anticipate to meet the sweet woman anymore. I feel incredibly down, too.

"N- Nicholas... calm down. Calm down, please." I beg him, holding my hands out so he can stop throwing things around. The maids and servants were away from him, not daring to come forth and subside his anger.

I guess I should make myself useful here.

"Nicholas... I'm here for you." As I say the words, he looks at me. He begins to collapse on his knees as his knees scrape on the shards of ceramic he broke in the outburst.

Tears fall from my face too as I take baby steps towards him.

"Calm down... you can talk to me." I quickly motion the servants to leave the house. They don't need to be our audience.

He was fallen on his knees as he lets me go closer. I immediately hug his head to my stomach, I couldn't bend and let him pull me down with him.

He cries like a child who lost something precious.

I can't even stand in his shoes to experience his wrath. I don't know who did this to them, but I will curse them for snatching away the parents from their child.

They weren't even here for our wedding.

"Shush... Shush..." I pat his face, occasionally drying his tears.

Later, I feel his body getting heavy.

With great effort, I place him on the couch and pity at his wounds. Both internal and external.

Wiping my own half dried tears, I sigh heavily and grab a first aid kit from the kitchen.

I make sure he was at least half awake. I give him a glass of water with a pain killer.

"Thank you..." he says, his elbow bent over his forehead as I tend to his wounds on the knees.

"You're welcome." I reply gently with a smile.

Nothing happens for the entire evening and the night.

The next morning, he receives a news that their bodies were retrieved from the plane crash and were arriving back to their home in coffins.

I couldn't bare to see the rivers and rivers of tears flowing down his eyes.

He doesn't deserve this, no matter how much I loathe him.

The funeral was held in the afternoon. The son wasn't allowed to see the battered bodies of his parents. To tell them he was not going to allow their departure but had to cruelly accept it anyway.

The mournful sight was eating me up.

Though I was lightly satisfied that my mother wasn't invited here.

Even if she is still part of the family, Nicholas didn't see her as a truly belonged member of his family.

I was mildly, teenily... relieved.

"It's time..." I slowly call behind him. He stares at his alchemy of his parent's bones turned into diamonds. He sat beside their grave, sniffling whilst holding in a sob.

"You can go back to your home. I don't need you to be my wife anymore." He says. My eyes widen.

"But... I don't have anywhere to go." I say honestly as he looks at me with tired eyes. He nods slowly, comprehending my situation.

"Okay." He softly utters.

"You can go... home if you want to. I'll stay here-"

"I will go back with you. It's fine." I quickly cut him off. He looks up at me over his shoulders. After a few seconds he says again, "Okay."

At last, in the evening, he decides to leave.

There was no use fighting with time and energy to pray and bring them back.

The only thing he could do was attain revenge.

That said, a lot of me went to ask me about what happened exactly. I refused to say anything without his permission. I don't need them to know that someone planned a murder on them in aviation. I wasn't sure if that will turn into a rumor, but I know the 'pretend family' gossips.

I hold his arm as he walks half dead beside me. I tell the driver to take it slow, I want him to feel relaxed even in the car ride.

It was at night, I forced him to eat whatever was possible for him to eat.

"If you don't eat your food on time, you will have a fever and there aren't many who will look after you. Please. Have your dinner. I know what you're going through." There he goes. He gives me those pitiable eyes again.

As I stood beside him, forcing him to eat, I stroke his hair softly.

I am surprised that he was comfortable enough around me to cry these many times.

I hug him again, but this time, he wraps his arms around me and relishes all of his anger out in the form of tears on my pajamas.

Not that I mind, but he needs to vent it out in one form or the other.

Awhile later, I see to it that he sleeps while I read a few articles and non sense that pops up on the mobile phone.

"Why are you here?" He asks me.

I raise my head, looking at him over the dim moonlight that shines from his window.

"Because I don't want you to keep thinking and thinking and thinking... until you've collapsed your mental health." I say in a simple way.

"Oh." Something in him makes him realise as he responds to me, stopping his train of thoughts there.

"Um... why don't you sleep too? I'll be fine."

"I'm not going to buy that. Besides, my student life made me adept to staying up real late in the night." I say to assure him, and go back to reading the nonsensical articles.

"Okay... but... would you mind if I asked you to sleep beside me until I've fallen asleep. Please?"

I swear.

I swear I haven't heard a man so defeated and humble as him at the moment. I slowly look up and see him scooting to his right side to give me some space.

It was a cold winter night anyway.

I could give him some warmth just until he fell asleep.

If it was another case, I would plug in my earphones and let him cuddle me until he's fallen asleep. But I was out of options.

"Okay." Placing my phone on the coffee table, along with my spectacles, I face my back towards him. He covers me in the duvet, and pulls me towards himself.

I could feel his warm breath on my back. It was comforting, but I doubt I can handle it for long.

As a big sister, I always cuddled my brother to sleep because he was born that way. I liked his clinginess.

But this man was not my brother whom I can hold all night and sleep.

He's my husband, a stranger man I was forced to marry.

"Your hair smells so sweet." He comments in a whisper. I could sense his slumber, but the worst part was me falling into slumber too.

Without each other's notice, we fall asleep as I mutter before shutting my eyes for the day.

"Thank you."

However, I didn't know this was the beginning of my love story.

An indebted girl falling in love with a billionaire.

I was indeed... Indebted To A Billionaire.
