Chapter 5 THE KIND-HEARTED MYSTERIOUS MAN

Waiting with her heart pounding so fast made Rose Magenta's breathing quicken, reflecting the air pressure being pumped unnaturally fast by her heart.

"Of course you can," Damien Knight answered briefly.

"Thank you, Sir. I promise I'll work well!" said Rose Magenta, unable to hide her happiness, and she immediately stood up and hugged Damien Knight who was sitting so close to her bedside. After all, she had been looking for a job for days without any glimmer of hope. Damien Knight truly became her savior at that moment.

Thump!

For the first time, Damien Knight felt a strong jolt in his chest. All this time, he had only ever felt surging emotions and intense passion in building his company's success. Not once did he think of anything else, let alone about a woman in his life. But now, Rose Magenta's spontaneous hug made Damien Knight's chest beat wildly without control.

Too happy, Rose Magenta was immediately shocked when she realized she was hugging the man who would soon become her boss. She quickly pulled back her hands and body.

"S-sorry, Sir. I was just too happy. I've been exhausted looking for a job for the past three days and I was almost hopeless. Thank you so much for hiring me at your company. Thank you very much."

Rose Magenta nervously explained, fearing that her spontaneous action would be misunderstood by this tall, well-built man-someone with an air of great authority, evident in his speech and body language.

"It's fine. As long as...," said Damien Knight, pausing while narrowing his eyes.

Rose Magenta went silent, sensing there was a condition to his offer.

"As long as?" she asked, her brow starting to furrow as Damien Knight still hadn't continued his sentence.

"As long as you rest here until your condition improves and the doctor allows you to go home," Damien Knight said firmly, his tone giving no room for argument.

"What?! But-but... I-I..."

"No buts. Or I won't accept you to work at the company-" Damien Knight's words were cut off.

"Alright, Sir! Okay, I'll rest here. It's just... the cost...?"

"I've paid for it and you don't need to worry about that!" Damien Knight replied quickly.

His words made Rose Magenta deeply touched. Even the father of her unborn baby had never once shown up to help or even check on her condition. In fact, her miserable life was all because of that man-who seized her father's mansion and caused her mother's sudden death.

The love that once grew in Rose Magenta's heart had now turned into burning hatred.

"Rose?"

Seeing the beautiful woman who stirred his emotions just stare blankly made Damien Knight gently grab her arm, still connected to an IV.

"Oh?! Yes, Sir. Thank you again," Rose Magenta snapped out of her daze, startled.

She looked around the room, searching for her handbag that she was carrying earlier.

"What are you looking for?"

"My bag, Sir? I want to contact my father," Rose Magenta said while still glancing around.

"Your bag is in the car. Just use my phone. Do you know your father's number by heart?"

"I do."

"Go ahead, use my phone."

"But... my father won't recognize the number and probably won't answer," said Rose Magenta as she swallowed hard, remembering how easily startled her father had become since her mother's death. Even hearing a phone ring sometimes made him panic.

"Oh, I see. Alright, I'll get your phone from the car. Stay here and don't go anywhere!"

"Yes, Sir. Thank you," Rose Magenta thanked Damien Knight once again-who knows how many times now.

Damien Knight left the large room and headed downstairs to his luxury car parked in front of the hospital lobby.

"Jaxon. I'm going to send you someone's data. Find out everything about her, even where her husband is buried!"

"Yes, Mr. President!"

Damien Knight took a photo of Rose Magenta's resume and sent it to Jaxon Manuel, his trusted assistant.

Once done, he picked up Rose Magenta's small bag. He opened it to see what was inside.

There was a cheap phone and a worn-out wallet.

Yes, ever since they were evicted from their mansion a few weeks ago, Rose Magenta had to sell her valuables just to afford a small rented house and hire a nurse to care for her father who had a mild stroke.

Damien Knight's hand trembled as he picked up the phone, then slowly opened the worn wallet.

He narrowed his eyes and bit his lower lip. There were only a few dollars in it-not even enough for one of his lunches, let alone daily needs.

Damien Knight took out several hundred-dollar bills from his leather wallet and filled Rose Magenta's worn wallet until it was full.

'At least this is enough for a week,' he thought, then closed the wallet and returned it to the small bag along with the cheap phone.

Back in the VVIP room, he handed the bag to Rose Magenta, who was lying in bed waiting.

"Thank you, Sir. Sorry to trouble you," said Rose Magenta as she opened her bag and immediately grabbed her phone.

She called the nurse caring for her father-she didn't want him to be surprised.

"Nurse, how's my Dad today?"

That was the first thing she asked when the nurse picked up.

"He's fine, Miss Rose. Today Mr. Emerald can walk for a longer time," the nurse replied enthusiastically.

"Oh, thank goodness. I can't go home tonight, but what about my Dad? Do you have a male friend who could keep him company tonight?" Rose Magenta asked anxiously, truly unsure what to do. She couldn't leave her father alone.

Before the nurse could respond, Damien Knight took the phone and ended the call abruptly.

"You mean your father's home alone? Why, is he sick?" Damien Knight bombarded her with questions.

"Yes, Sir. He had a mild stroke. A nurse takes care of him daily, but she usually leaves once I get home," Rose Magenta explained briefly.

"Alright, let the nurse go home. My assistant will go there and accompany your father."

"No-no, Sir. My Dad not used to strangers. He'll panic and get short of breath again," Rose Magenta quickly explained, panic showing on her face.

"So...? Fine. Then you go home, and I'll come with you tonight, just to make sure you and your father are alright."

"W-what?!"

Rose Magenta was stunned by Damien Knight's words. How could a rich man, who would soon be her boss, stay at her tiny rented house?!
