Chapter 5 Quit Your Job

Tatiana's Point of View

(The Following Day)

As soon as I wrapped up the tasks assigned to me at the office, I felt the familiar weight of my phone in my hand, and my fingers automatically started tapping away at the screen. I decided to reach out to Katrina, my perpetually dramatic friend, to share the latest tidbits of my day.

'Hello, how are you doing today, Tat?'

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the nickname. Haa!! I'm seriously going to kill this girl.

'I'm fine and you, Cat?'

'How dare you call me cat?!!'

I couldn't suppress a smirk as I read her response. She was always so predictable.

'You started it first, Cat, so deal with it.'

I added a laughing emoji to soften the blow, knowing it would only further fuel her annoyance.

'You are such a bully.'

She shot back with a pouting emoji, and I couldn't help but burst into laughter.

'Cat, guess what?'

'What?'

'Try and guess...'

'Not after you called me a cat, so not happening.'

I chuckled at her stubbornness.

'Well... Scott has agreed to give you a job.'

'Really?'

'Yes.'

'As what position?'

'His P.A.'

I could almost hear her gasp through the text. The news had the desired effect, and I waited for her reaction with bated breath. The seconds stretched into an eternity, the dots indicating her typing lingered on the screen, and I could practically feel the suspense building. After what felt like an eternity, her response finally appeared.

'OMG, seriously? That's amazing! How did you manage that?'

I leaned back in my chair, enjoying the sense of triumph. This was going to be fun.

'Let's just say I have my ways, Cat. You owe me big time for this one.'

Her response was a series of shocked and excited emojis, and I couldn't help but revel in the satisfaction of being the bearer of such surprising news. As the conversation continued, we delved into the details of the job offer, discussing potential responsibilities, perks, and the inevitable challenges that came with being a personal assistant to someone like Scott.

In the days that followed, the anticipation of collaboration hung in the air as the three of us-Scott, Katrina, and I gathered to delve into the potential partnership. Our meeting room became a hub of creative energy, a space where ideas danced like motes of dust caught in the sunlight.

Scott, the enigmatic figurehead of the company, sat at the head of the table, exuding an air of confident authority. Katrina, with her vibrant energy and undeniable charisma, took a seat beside me. The atmosphere buzzed with possibility as we exchanged pleasantries, the excitement palpable in the air.

"So, Katrina," Scott began, his gaze steady and analytical, "Tatiana here has sung your praises and convinced me that you'd be a valuable addition to the team. Now, tell me, what are your thoughts on this potential collaboration?"

Katrina, ever the vivacious storyteller, leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with enthusiasm. "First of all, thank you both for this incredible opportunity. I've been thrilled by the warm welcome from everyone in the office, and I can't wait to contribute to the exciting projects you have in the pipeline."

Scott nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. "That's good to hear. Now, let's dive into the specifics. Tatiana mentioned you have a clear vision for the future. Care to share?"

Katrina's eyes sparkled as she painted a vivid picture of her aspirations and goals within the company. "Absolutely! I believe in fostering a collaborative environment where creativity thrives. I envision a team that not only meets but exceeds expectations, pushing the boundaries of innovation. With your guidance, Scott, and the support of the entire team, I'm confident we can achieve great things together."

Scott leaned back, considering her words. "Ambitious, I like that. Tatiana, do you think Katrina's vision aligns with our company's goals?"

I nodded, interjecting, "Absolutely, Scott. Katrina's passion for fostering a collaborative culture and driving innovation is precisely what our team needs. I've seen her in action, and her ability to inspire and lead is truly commendable."

Scott's gaze shifted between us, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well then, it seems we have the foundation for a promising collaboration. Katrina, welcome aboard. I look forward to seeing your vision come to life within our team."

Katrina beamed, expressing her gratitude. "Thank you so much, Scott. I'm honored to be a part of this journey."

As our meeting continued, throughout the discussion, Katrina's animated conversations brought a dynamic flair to the room. She posed questions, shared anecdotes, and seamlessly integrated her ideas into the evolving tapestry of our conversation. Scott, known for his succinct and incisive remarks, engaged in a dialogue that reflected his keen understanding of the industry and its challenges.

By the time our meeting concluded, the once-formidable boundary between employer and employee had dissolved into a collaborative partnership fueled by shared aspirations. The potential for greatness hung in the air, and as we exited the meeting room.

The following week unfolded like a tapestry of anticipation and curiosity, and the prospect of our midweek lunch date filled the air with excitement. Katrina and I, both eager to escape the monotony of the daily grind, decided to venture into the heart of the city to explore a new restaurant that had become the talk of the town.

The choice we made turned out to be a hidden gem, nestled in the bustling downtown streets. The moment we stepped through the entrance, a symphony of aromas enveloped us, teasing our senses and signaling the beginning of a culinary adventure. The menu, a tempting array of dishes, promised to take our taste buds on a delightful journey. The ambiance, a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and cozy charm, set the stage for what promised to be an enjoyable lunch date.

As we perused the menu, our eyes widened at the diverse selection of dishes. We exchanged glances, the twinkle of excitement reflecting in each other's eyes. With a shared sense of curiosity, we decided to embark on a gastronomic adventure, opting for an assortment of dishes to share.

"Have you heard about their signature dish? It's supposed to be out of this world," Katrina remarked, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.

I chuckled, "I've heard the rumors. Let's give it a shot and see if it lives up to the hype."

Our laughter echoed in the air as we placed our order, the friendly banter setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. As the dishes arrived, we shared bites, swapped plates, and marveled at the burst of flavors each one offered.

Amid our culinary escapade, Katrina began to unravel the narrative of her first week at the office. Her animated storytelling added a vibrant dimension to our conversation.

"You won't believe how welcoming everyone has been! It feels like I've known them forever," Katrina exclaimed, her eyes reflecting the genuine warmth she experienced.

"That's fantastic! A supportive environment makes all the difference," I responded, savoring both the food and the camaraderie.

Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she shared tales of her colleagues, each anecdote accompanied by expressive gestures that brought the stories to life. It was clear that her transition into the new role was marked not just by professional growth but also by the blossoming of genuine connections with those around her.

"I can't wait to dive into these projects! The challenges seem exhilarating, and I'm eager to make my mark," Katrina declared, her eyes glinting with determination.

Our discussion continued to explore the potential avenues for growth within the company, and Katrina painted vivid pictures of the myriad possibilities that lay ahead in her professional journey.

"Maybe we can check out that art exhibition downtown on Saturday," Katrina suggested, her eyes lighting up with excitement.

"Sounds like a plan! And how about a stroll in the park on Sunday? The weather is supposed to be perfect," I proposed.

Katrina's face broke into a delighted smile, "A stroll in the park sounds heavenly. I'm in!"

(Evening)

The exhaustion clung to me like a heavy shroud as I wearily entered my home, the day's demands having drained me completely. A deep, involuntary yawn escaped my lips, punctuating the profound weariness that permeated every fiber of my being.

"Darn... I'm so tired," I mumbled to myself, the fatigue evident in my voice as I shuffled through the door.

"Welcome home, madam," Amber, the head maid, greeted with a respectful nod. Her unwavering poise and efficiency were a comforting presence in my life.

"Hmm... How are you doing today?" I inquired, managing a small smile despite the weariness that clung to my every step.

"Fine as always, madam. You look very tired," she observed, her eyes reflecting concern as she gracefully took my handbag.

"Yes, Amber, I am very, very tired. If you don't mind, can you please help me draw my bathwater and add some soothing stuff to it? Make it very warm, if you can," I requested, feeling the weight of the day as I collapsed onto the couch with an audible sigh.

"Of course, madam. I will be back in a jiffy," Amber responded, her efficiency apparent as she gracefully glided towards the bathroom, leaving me to exhale the stresses of the day.

As I reclined on the couch, my thoughts drifted back to the challenges of the day. The office had been a battlefield, and the demands of professional life had taken their toll. It was moments like these that made me appreciate the sanctuary of home, a place where I could shed the armor of the day and rejuvenate.

Amber returned promptly, a warm, reassuring presence. "Your bath is ready, madam. I've added some lavender essential oil for relaxation. I hope you find it soothing."

I mustered a grateful smile as I rose from the couch, ready to indulge in the promise of relaxation. "Thank you, Amber. You always know how to make things a little brighter."

With her assistance, I made my way to the bathroom, the aroma of lavender enveloping me in a cocoon of tranquility. The warm water invited me in, and as I sank into the blissful embrace of the bath, the weariness began to melt away.

Amber, respectful of my need for solitude, excused herself, leaving me to bask in the serenity of the moment. The evening unfolded with the gentle lull of water and the fragrant whispers of lavender, creating an oasis of calm within the confines of my home.

As I emerged from the bath, rejuvenated and refreshed, I found Amber waiting with a plush robe. "Dinner will be served shortly, madam. Would you like anything specific?"

I considered her offer, the weariness now replaced by a subtle hunger. "Something light, Amber. Perhaps a salad and a cup of chamomile tea would be perfect."

"Very well, madam. I will see to it," she acknowledged, disappearing with the same grace that characterized her every movement.

As I settled into the comforting embrace of the robe, the evening unfolded with the promise of a peaceful night. The fatigue of the day had given way to a sense of tranquility, and as I awaited the nourishing simplicity of dinner, I couldn't help but appreciate the oasis of solace that home provided. Little did I know that the evening held more surprises.

(Late at night)

The room was bathed in a soft glow, the ambiance set by the muted lighting creating a cozy atmosphere. I sat patiently on the edge of the bed, the ticking clock marking the passage of time as I awaited Scott's arrival. The day had worn on, and it was getting late. My anticipation mingled with a hint of concern.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the door creaked open, and Scott entered the bedroom. His presence filled the room, accompanied by a hint of mischief in his eyes.

"Hey, honey, miss me?" he asked with a grin, his gaze fixed on me.

I shot him a playful side-eye, feigning annoyance. "Seriously, Scott? You come back home late, and that's your greeting?"

He chuckled, the sound filling the room with warmth. "Didn't you miss me? Because I did miss you. If you didn't miss me, I might have to reconsider my homecoming rituals."

I rolled my eyes in mock exasperation. "Well, aren't you the charmer? Your homecoming rituals might need a bit of an upgrade, just saying."

He laughed a genuine sound that echoed through the room. "Upgrade, you say? I'll have you know, my dear, that I've been plotting the most elaborate welcome home rituals, involving red carpets and fanfare. But, alas, my plans were thwarted by the demands of the office."

I couldn't help but join in his laughter. "Red carpets and fanfare, huh? I'm not sure the neighbors would appreciate that, but I appreciate the sentiment."

He approached me, his eyes sparkling with affection. "You're the only fanfare I need, anyway."

The playful banter continued as we settled into the late night. Scott began to shed the layers of his work attire, and the conversation flowed seamlessly.

"Long day at the office?" I asked, watching him with a curious gaze.

"You have no idea. Meetings, emails, the whole nine yards. But I'm here now, and that's all that matters," he replied, tossing his tie onto a nearby chair.

I couldn't help but smile at his dedication. "Well, I'm glad you're here. Maybe next time, you can bring some of that fanfare back with you."

Scott smirked, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Consider it a promise. Now, what's on the agenda for the rest of the evening? I hope it involves something delicious for dinner."

With a theatrical sigh, I pretended to ponder his request. "I suppose we could arrange for a feast. What do you feel like having?"

"Surprise me," he said with a grin, clearly enjoying the prospect of a culinary adventure.

"Well, I will inform Amber and the rest to set the table," I said, preparing to make my way downstairs to coordinate the dinner arrangements.

With that intention, I turned to descend the stairs when an unexpected wave of weakness swept over me. My legs gave way beneath me, and I found myself collapsing heavily onto the floor.

"Arghh!!!" The pain was immediate, and an involuntary scream escaped my lips.

The sudden commotion drew Scott's attention, and he hurriedly approached with concern etched across his face.

"Love, are you alright?" he asked, his voice laced with genuine worry.

I winced, attempting to shift into a more comfortable position on the floor. "I... I don't know. I just felt so weak all of a sudden. It's like my legs just gave out."

Scott crouched beside me, his eyes scanning for any signs of distress. "Did you hurt yourself? Should I call for a doctor?"

I shook my head, reassured by his presence. "No, no, it's not that serious. I just need a moment to catch my breath."

Concern etched deeper lines on Scott's forehead as he helped me sit up. "Maybe you should lie down for a bit. I don't want you pushing yourself too hard."

"You're right," I admitted, feeling a combination of embarrassment and gratitude for his concern. "Maybe it's just fatigue catching up with me."

Scott nodded, supporting me as I rose from the floor. "Let's take it easy. I'll let Amber know to hold off on setting the table for now."

As we made our way to the bedroom, I couldn't help but appreciate Scott's attentiveness. He helped me settle on the bed, fluffing up the pillows and tucking the blankets around me.

"Are you feeling any better?" he asked, his eyes scanning my face for signs of improvement.

"A little," I admitted, offering a weak smile. "I think I just need some rest. It's been a hectic day."

Scott leaned down to press a gentle kiss on my forehead. "Rest up, love. I'll make sure everything is taken care of downstairs. And if you need anything, just let me know."

As he left the room, I couldn't help but reflect on the unpredictability of life's twists and turns. Moments ago, I had been preparing for a cozy dinner, and now I found myself tucked into bed, grappling with unexpected fatigue.

The night continued with Scott checking in on me, bringing a glass of water and making sure I was comfortable. Our conversation shifted towards light topics, a deliberate attempt to distract me from any lingering discomfort. Scott's comforting presence became a soothing balm, turning what could have been a stressful situation into a moment of shared concern and care.

"Babe?" He called.

"Yes Sunshine" I answered.

"This fatigue of yours is becoming much frequent, why don't you quit your job" He proposed as gasped slightly.

'QUIT MY JOB!!!!!"
