Chapter 2 >>>Chapter 2: The Stranger's Secrets<<<

As Mia's eyes locked with Jade's, her heart raced with excitement. "Jade," she repeated, her voice hardly audible above a whisper. "What happened to you?"

Jade's gaze wandered, clouding over like a stormy sky. "I...I don't know," he said in a weak voice. "I remember that something happened. A fight, maybe?

Kael took a step forward, his face serious. "Jade, we'll discuss it later. Let's concentrate on getting you better for the time being.

With a twinge of curiosity, Mia nodded. How had Jade fared? What was the reason behind her father's apparent interest in him? As she watched, Kael's hands moved with a delicate precision that contrasted with his tough exterior as he checked Jade's wounds.

Throughout the day, Jade's condition steadily improved. As he drifted in and out of consciousness, his eyes were always focused on Mia when he woke up. He and she had a peculiar connection, as though they shared a secret. Mia pondered what mysteries lay within his intensely blue eyes.

But as the sun began to set and the room began to glow golden, Jade's face grew darker. "Mia," he whispered urgently. "You have to get out of here. They're after you.

Mia's heart began to race. "Who's coming?" she said, barely raising her voice above a whisper.

Her eyes met Jade's intense ones. "The ones who...who did this to me," he whispered, his voice trailing off. "They will stop at nothing to accomplish their objectives."

As Mia tried to understand what Jade had said, her mind was racing. What did he mean? And who were these people he was talking about? Her spine tingled at the prospect of the unidentified threat that might exist outside.

Mia heard footsteps outside the room while she was still considering what Jade had said. With a serious expression, Kael entered with a tray of food and water. "I've brought some food," he said, setting the tray on the bedside table. "You must eat, Jade."

Jade's eyes opened, and he gave Kael a cautious yet appreciative glance. "Thanks," he said quietly.

Mia marvelled at Jade's eating. Why had this mysterious stranger knocked on her door? She noticed how his eyes appeared to sparkle in the remaining light and how his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck.

But as the sun started to set and the room grew dark, Mia heard a strange noise coming from downstairs. At first, it was just a creak, but then she heard glass breaking. Her heart thumping, she turned to Kael. "What was that?"

Kael's expression darkened. "I'll go check," he said in a low voice. "Jade, stay here."

A wave of unease swept over Mia, and she nodded. What was happening? And who was after her? She turned to face Jade, who was giving her a serious look.

Mia felt a growing sense of dread as Kael rushed from the room. She heard heavy, deliberate footsteps downstairs. Her heart pounding, she turned to Jade. "What's going on?" she muttered.

Her eyes met Jade's intense ones. "Mia, you have to-"

But before he could finish, a figure emerged in the doorway, their eyes riveted to Jade with a terrifying intensity. Mia felt her heart sink as the snarled-faced figure stepped forward.

"Ah, Jade Blackwood," the figure said in a hateful voice. "I've been looking for you."

Mia felt a surge of fear, her heart racing. What did they want with Jade? What would happen to him?

The figure took another step, still staring into Mia's eyes. "And you've brought me a little present," they said in a sarcastic tone. "The Alpha's daughter. How thoughtful of you, Jade.

The figure leaped forward, and Mia felt a surge of panic. She tried to answer, but her body seemed to be immobile. Her eyes met Jade's intense ones. "Run, Mia," he whispered, his voice hardly audible.

But it was too late. The figure grabbed her and pulled her out of the room. Mia's whole world darkened as she struggled to get away.

Then everything became dark.
