Chapter 9 9

Antonio didn't seem to mind the surprised look on Julliet's face. He turned to Xaden after setting and preparing the chicken soup that he'd gotten for the latter and said, "I want to have a word with you. Let's go out to talk."

Xaden smiled faintly when he heard this. It was as though he'd anticipated this from Antonio beforehand.

"If there's anything that you want to say to me, just say it now."

Even though Julliet didn't know what the two of them wanted to talk about, she decided to see herself out after seeing Antonio frown at Xaden's words. She said to Xaden, "President Devenport, I will see myself out since the two of you wish to speak in private."

Julliet then reached out to take the blanket off her and get out of bed. However, just as she was about to do so, a lighter was thrown at the back of her hand.

Julliet wouldn't help but frown slightly even though she hadn't been hit that hard.

Xaden frowned and said, "Did I say that you could move? You'd better lie down properly."

He then turned to Antonio with a smile, "As you can see, she's very obedient and listens well. Anyway, did you have something to say to me? Just say it here, there's no need to hold yourself back."

Antonio couldn't help but feel extremely mad as he watched how Julliet's hand started to turn slightly red and swollen. He glared, "Xaden, what would Veronica think if she knew that you were keeping Julliet by your side like this?"

Xaden fiddled with the ring on his finger as he huffed, "What are you trying to tell me?"

"Get her to leave Emerald City." Antonio looked at Julliet before averting his eyes from her.

Julliet felt her chest tighten when she heard what Antonio just said. She couldn't help but bite her lip so as not to say anything rash.

Xaden's eyes flashed dangerously at Antonio's request. However, he soon reverted back to his calm disposition as he huffed, "But there's no reason for me to fire her. After all, she's a hard worker and is able to uphold the requirements of her job."

"The King Club is a magnificent and resourceful place. I'm sure that you can find brilliant employees other than her. Is there really a need to keep her here?"

Antonio couldn't help but slam his fist down on a chair. He paused for a moment before he said slowly, "Alright, how about this, I want to take her off your hands. What do you say, President Devenport?"

Just as Xaden had expected, Antonio could no longer contain his frustration any longer.

Xaden fiddled with the cloth of his custom-made suit as he snorted indifferently, "We're friends who grew up together. I have no reason to be obliged to give whoever you want to you. But you've got to understand that I've yet to have enough fun with her."

"What else could you possibly want her for? What else is there to want from a person like her?"

"I'm sorry." Julliet finally couldn't take being talked about like an object whilst she simply laid there anymore. She took a deep breath before turning to Antonio, "Mr. Parker, thank you for your interest in me. However, I do not have any intention of working for someone else for the time being."

"Julliet!" Antonio gasped at her in disbelief, "Do you know what you're saying?"

Julliet knew that Antonio was just trying to help her. However, it was his sister who'd made her life end up the way that it was in the present, an utter living hell. As such, she refused to involve with Antonio in any way or manner.

"I know that you're unhappy about what happened last night. That's why you refuse to let me off. How about this, Mr. Parker? I'll do anything so long as you're willing to calm down and forgive me. I can even go back to kneel at that place if you want me to."

Antonio gaped at Julliet with in disbelief.

He couldn't understand how she'd become like this.

"Julliet, do you think I won't let you off?"

Julliet bowed her head and did not dare to look up at him.

Seeing this, Antonio said with ridicule. "It seems like I'd meddled too much. Alright, then. If that's the case, I'll get going now. Miss Harris, please take care."

Julliet let out the sigh of relief that she'd been holding back as soon as Antonio left the room.

Just then, she heard Xaden click his teeth as he said coldly, "Julliet, I can't believe that you'd actually learned this move. It looks like those two years that you'd spent in prison really hadn't gone to waste."

However, just before she could say anything, Xaden sneered, "It's a pity that the whole of the Parker Family are dying to skin you alive. You're asking for death if you try to seduce Antonio."

Julliet finally understood what Xaden meant. She couldn't help but feel a shudder run down her spine at his words.

After a long time, she whispered lowly, "Mr. Devenport, don't worry. I no longer wish to get involved with you lot."
