Chapter 5 Grooming The Heir.

Chapter 5

Venice POV.

"Job offer?" I blink hard and confused. My brow furrowed deeper.

"Yeah, a job," he repeated in a steady tone. It's going to be a favour for me... and for you."

I didn't respond. Just stared. My heartbeat ticked louder than a clock in an empty hallway. Waiting for the punchline.

"I want to tell you something," His voice softened. You are a brilliant lady, brave and Your product?"

He paused a bit and gave a tiny smile, " amazing. Top-tier."

He smiled, warm and smooth. Like butter on toast. His smile didn't match the sweetness in his voice.

"But", he added. The word curled around my spine like a cold snake. " There is something I would like you to do for me."

And just like that the whole room changed.

My stomach twisted. My fingers clutched the chair arms like they were my life-lines.

Just seconds ago, he was complimenting me but now...

He rose from his chair, slow and graceful and walked to the end of the room, where the walls were made up of tinted glass. His right hand his magic sticks in finesse.

The view outside is breathtaking. The skylines, sun drenched streets, shiny black cars like ants, moving through the city.

But inside? So thick. It could choke. I wasn't finding it convenient. Maybe due to the power he wields.

I sat frozen in my chair watching his back.

"There is nothing to be afraid here," he turned to me as he looked through the well tinted glass overseeing every activity beneath us.

Was this another ambush? A prettier version of what Kael had done to me. I had just climbed out of an emotional grave, where fate had given me another life-line. Was I about to be thrown into another?

"Kindly pick up your bag and follow me to a place I am to show you, dear."

I wanted to refuse the request but something in me restrained me. Maybe it is a test of patience and character.

And the person in front of me has so much power to make my tiny brand despair in a twinkling of eyes or elevate to global stardom in a half of such time.

I breathed down. Following him out of his office like his P.A or bodyguard he exchanged greetings with a few people before entering his black limousine with tinted glass.

I kept quiet throughout our journey to the place. To the place of the unknown. Though fear gripped me, I had to keep my calm. I watched as he sipped his wine while sitting opposite him in his limousine.

While I could not taste mine offered to me by him. I was skeptical. Maybe he had spiked the drink.

My mind had drifted to Kael. The reason for his selfishness. I had treated him with love, trust and transparency. Until he pulled the trigger other men in my past used to pull. But this one felt more awful.

Who the hell is that lady in the bathroom? The question keeps coming to my mind.

I blinked the memory away as the limo slowed.

A massive estate stood before us. The gate alone looks like it could block out heaven. It groaned open, typical ultra-rich people's tech.

Beyond it, lush green grass rolled across it like velvet.

A castle, yes, a literal castle, sat proudly at its centre.

We have not settled in, when a young man was dragged in with the help of two bodyguards. He looks untidy and smells of alcohol.

One of the bodyguards spoke, " Sir, We picked him at the club, partying."

The other bodyguard added, still panting, "We had to bring him back when the fight was about to be messy between him, his friend and a rival gang."

"A rival gang?" Jim asked, rubbing his temple.

"Yes sir," They both replied in unison.

The man, tall, muscular and handsome, a dream of every lady out there, stumbled towards us, his voice slurred.

"Dad you are back," The words escaped from the young man like a drunkard who hardly exceeded his limit. He was staring at his father like a stranger. A typical effect of alcohol.

He turned to me, looked at me seductively from the head to the toe, gradually up. He wanted to check my Inner pants. I quickly closed up my legs. I readjusted the way I sat.

My body cringed. I felt irritated and ...

"Dad, Is this fresh almond for me?" He pointed to Jim while still trying to pip through my legs.

After unsuccessful attempts, suddenly sprang up to hug Jim, his father. Jim, whose face had turned reddish.

Jim Pushed him away. He hit the floor with a dull thud.

Jim le'courtois stood from his position, gripping his walking stick like a sword.

Bang! Bang!!

Twice on his head.

The third was the loudest.

Bang!!

as Jim le'courtois hit on his face, blood spilled out through the nostril, staining his white shirt.

He was about to spank him again like a disobedient dog, when I sprang up on my feet, I seized the magic stick from him.

"Please sir, don't hit him again."

"Let go of my stick," Mr Jim uttered, " let me deal with this fool I gave birth to as a son."

"Dad... I have not done anything, I was just admiring..." the young man uttered, he had been sprawling on the floor. Holding his head in pain.

The word dad, hit to reality like a blow launched to my lower abdomen , his name Bryan or something like that... I have seen him on the cover of the people and vogue magazines a couple of times snapping pictures with his dad and a few of his Hollywood friends before coming to Madrid.

"Admiring what? You disgusting little punk!" Mr Jim let out with anger, while he struggled to snatch his walking stick from my hand to launch further attacks.

I was amazed how the bodyguards were folding their hands.

I knew this had not been strange to them. But I couldn't bear it. Neither could I watch a grown-up and handsome man like this being treated like a piece of shit.

"This is the disease I have been trying to cure," Jim bellowed.

"Is this fool that will carry the family estate, is this the fool that we stand in front of stakeholders and investors to give a business report and a confidence speech? Who wants to pass the vote of confidence on an idiot like this?"

"Is this the fool that..." Jim's eyes had turned reddish, "please take this thing away from here."

He commanded, as he was dragged like a bag of wheat from our presence.

He turned to me. Like as if we have been with each other for a long time.

"I can't imagine Fred taking up this company. I knew where this company was, when I took it from my father."

"That's why I brought you here!"
