Chapter 4 The Unseen Enemy

Night fell heavy over the city, the streets glistening with fresh rain as Elira sat by her bedroom window, fingers tracing the faint outline of the floral tattoo hidden beneath her sleeve. Her mind refused to rest. The boy's words echoed relentlessly in her ears: *Someone who's been waiting-for you-to make a mistake.*

But who was he? And more terrifyingly, what mistake was he expecting?

The days at school had turned into a minefield of suspicion. Every glance felt loaded, every whisper like a secret code meant for her. She noticed the way some classmates avoided her gaze, the way teachers gave her hurried, worried looks. And then there were the moments when she caught shadows moving just beyond sight-always fleeting, always gone before she could confront them.

Determined to find answers, Elira decided to follow one of the threads that had haunted her since the accident-the tattoo. She needed to know its story. Who had given her this body, and why?

The next afternoon, she slipped into the school library, the quiet sanctuary filled with the smell of old books and secrets waiting to be uncovered. Her fingers skimmed through dusty yearbooks, notebooks, anything that might mention the girl she now inhabited.

Her heart skipped when she found a photograph-a smiling girl with the same delicate floral tattoo on her shoulder blade. The name underneath: Maren.

Suddenly, a voice whispered behind her, low and chilling.

"You're digging too deep."

Elira spun around, expecting to find the boy from the hallway, but instead, an unexpected face met her eyes-Lia, the quiet girl from her biology class, the one who always sat at the back, invisible to everyone.

"Why are you here?" Elira asked, wary.

Lia's eyes darted nervously before she leaned in. "Because you don't know who you're messing with."

"What do you mean?"

Lia hesitated, then whispered, "Maren wasn't just any girl. She was involved in things... dangerous things. Things that got her into trouble. And now, those same people don't want you to find out the truth."

Elira's mind raced. Dangerous things? Who were these people? And what did they want?

Before she could press further, the library lights flickered violently, then went out, plunging her into darkness.

A chilling breeze swept through the aisles, and Elira felt the unmistakable sensation of being watched. Her breath hitched as a shadow detached itself from the darkness-a figure she hadn't seen before.

"Stop asking questions," the voice warned. "Or next time, you won't get away."

As power surged back, the figure vanished, but the threat hung heavy in the air.

Elira's resolve hardened. Whoever was behind this wanted to keep Maren's secrets buried-deadly secrets that might explain everything about the crash, the stolen body, and her own lost identity.

But what if the biggest shock wasn't who was after her-but why?

She wasn't just a pawn in this game.

She was the key.

And somewhere in the tangled web of lies, the truth waited-twisted, dangerous, and closer than she ever imagined.
