"It's only a matter of time before they find out who we are and possibly throw us out of this darned place," I hissed. "Or worse, kill us."
I felt Khanos stirring with a response within me but that was knocked off when I felt a presence so strong and powerful.
The air around me changed and sparks danced on my skin, sending a spiral of tingles all over my body. My senses suddenly went on overdrive.
"They're here." Khanos said, trying to gain more control, but I stopped her.
A dreadful feeling grasped my heart as I blocked all contact with my wolf, banishing her to the deeper parts of me, where she couldn't be seen, felt, or sensed.
My survival depended on my ability to effectively get out of this unscathed. I took a deep breath when I felt the presence grow, to the point I felt a faint presence in my heart, stroking me from the inside.
The next second, the door flung open and two men stepped into the confined space, easily occupying the room with their strong presence.
I kept my head bowed, refusing to look at them, or acknowledge the bond that sparked within me as soon as they came close.
"Look at me," a husky voice said, commanded.
The pressure in my heart increased. The force of the Alpha King's command was potent and powerful; however, it wasn't strong enough to force me into compliance.
Putting on my best impression of fear, I slowly raised my head and soon met the midnight black orbs of the Alpha King. As soon as our eyes met, something snapped into place between us.
A bond. A union. He was my mate. I knew it. He knew it too. But he didn't acknowledge it. Instead, he stared me down with an expression I interpreted as condescending. Distaste.
He hated me already. Good. He'll be my escape out of this hell, my path to freedom.
"Who are you and where are you from?" my kingly mate cut to the chase, his eyes freezing cold.
I hated the way my heart skipped at the base in his tone. The mate bond spurred alive with every word that came out of his mouth, making me shiver.
"Ira," I muttered, swallowing hard. "Ira Northwood."
The Alpha King stared me down with doubt dancing in his eyes.
"I am one of the low-life slaves owned by Denmark," I muttered, unable to hide the sarcasm in my tone.
"You were caught trying to flee the werewolf lands at the early hours of the morning," he pointed out. "The last time I checked, all slaves were to return to their masters after the coronation." he tsked. "You didn't."
The room grew colder as I sat under his cold gaze.
"Forgive me for trying to run away from my abusive master, my king," I hissed. "I was finally free and when I saw an opportunity, I took it."
"An abusive master." The king echoed, walking around me. "I bet you'll do anything to get out of the hands of your abusive master."
With every word that went out of his mouth, I disliked him further.
"Including taking a deal with the rogues to assassinate your king," he said, making me furious. "I mean, what is there to lose, right?"
I stared at my supposed mate, unable to hide my anger.
"Surely you don't think I tried to assassinate you." I said with a comical look on my face. The Alpha King didn't say a word. Instead, he stared me down with a grave look.
"I'm merely a slave," I stated, hating the word. "I couldn't possibly pull that off even if I wanted."
"You mean just like how a mere slave with no wolf or social standing should not be able to survive the tunnel in one piece." The Alpha king said and I was ready to give him a piece of my mind when a voice spoke from the door.
"The tunnel isn't an easy route." My heart stirred at the sound of his voice which left a long lasting impression. "But not entirely impossible."
Unlike the Alpha King, his words were rooted in intrigue, not suspicion. I shifted my eyes, meeting his deep gray ones. Our bond snapped in place as soon as our eyes connected.
He was mine. I knew it. And he knew it too. Yet... he didn't say a word of acknowledgment. An act that brought a bittersweet feeling to my mouth.
I watched with unparalleled attention as my second mate got his back off the wall and headed towards me with precise steps and burning eyes.
"Dexter..." the Alpha King said in warning, but it didn't stop him.
My buff and extremely gorgeous mate walked up to my desk and slowly reached for my face. His hand lingered just above my face and I felt a shiver down my spine.
His intoxicating earthy scent hit me like a tonne of bricks, sending me to an abyss of deliciousness. For what felt like an hour, he stared me in the eyes.
I felt an intense need to reach over to him, to touch him, to feel his face and get closer to him. But I held tight. I knew it was the mate bond's influence. I couldn't become a slave to it's impluse.
I couldn't get close to them. I couldn't let myself fall for the trap of the mate bond. My Alpha King mate made it very easy to resist the bond with him; however, something told me the quiet and gorgeous man hovering before me was going to give me a run for my money.
I remembered him. He's plagued my dreams and subconscious since we met at the borders. I felt a deep connection with him, deeper than the Alpha King who stood by the side, keenly watching our interactions with an unreadable expression.
For some obtuse reason, I felt safe around him, which was odd, seeing I barely had any interaction with him before passing out at the borders.
I was still yet to know how I got here and how I got healed from the wounds I sustained from running away. Something told me he had something to do with it.
"You confuse me, mate." I heard him in my mind and stiffened, never saying a word or acting like I heard a thing.
My mates' gazes pressed heavily on me, and the atmosphere was tense. I could tell something was up. They were either having a private conversation without me or they were testing me.
"My name is Dexter," my saviour mate said, eyes searching my face. "Dexter Draco Royale." He suddenly introduced himself, making my eyes go wide.
"R-Royale?" I muttered, unable to believe it. I turned to my Alpha King mate who stood with an omniscient aura around him with calculating eyes.
A dark smirk grew on the Alpha King's lips and he chuckled.
"Shocked, aren't you, Ira?" he stated, drawing closer to me. "I was too." His eyes turned livid. "Why would the Moon Goddess bless two of the most powerful beings on earth with a weak and wolfless traitor as a mate?"
There it is. He finally said it. Yet I somehow wished he hadn't. Everytime this Alpha king mate of mine opened his mouth to speak, he got on my nerves.
"There's got to be a mistake somewhere, brother," he said to Dexter. "Don't you agree?"
I was too shocked to speak as my brain tried to assimilate the information given to me. If my saviour mate was truly Dexter Royale, it meant the newly crowned king wasn't joking.
I was mated to the most powerful Alpha twin wolves to have walked the earth. Eros and Dexter Royale. Right there and then, I knew my life was about to take a drastic turn.
