Chapter 5 Worthy

Ruby decided to answer that question, regardless of who it was, she was still at her house , and hadn't done anything wrong, when she was about to answer, she heard hurried footsteps behind her.

The patriarch of the Hartwell's family approached and greeted him on behalf of the entire family.

" Mr Prescott, it's a pleasure to have you here, I didn't know you were coming ,I apologize for not welcoming you ".

Ruby paid attention to that scene, her family almost bowed to that man, she looked at him wondering if he's really that powerful for her grandfather to act like a scared little dog , and it was getting interesting and she couldn't help herself , asking the most obvious question.

" Who are you?".

"Ruby, this is Mr. Wyatt Prescott", His son answered, afraid he might say something inappropriate.

"Don't be rude! He was reprimanded by her grandfather .

Everyone in the country and that city knew who Wyatt was, the youngest patriarch of the Hamilton family . Three years ago, he had successfully assumed that position after winning a cruel battle within his own family.

Wyatt had an unprecedented reputation in the business world, which made numerous business groups afraid to offend him in any way, so who were the Hartwell's family in the front line?.

Ruby smiled slightly after being reprimanded, having been away from the country for so long , she didn't know the issues involving the wealthy families of that city, nor how intimidating that man could be , she was only certain that the place and time to meet were wrong, otherwise she would have been more friendlier with that powerful man.

" Mr Prescott, you've come so early , is there something I can do for you? he took a step forward, addressing the matter as the head of the family.

" There is something that needs to be resolved".

Wyatt replied, and his voice was heavy like the sound of a drum, which could frighten anyone's heart. Lacey on the other hand , stayed further back, she had a certain sparkle in her eyes.

" Grandfather , invite Mr. Prescott to come in, I'll prepare some tea and you can talk freely".

Lacey wanted to make herself noticed at that moment, not only showing her helpfulness , but also exposing the mediocre reception they were giving to that man, Weston agreed and tried to intervene.

" Lacey is right , Mr. Prescott....".

" No need for all that trouble , I have no free time for tea."

Wyatt , not even giving Lacey an extra glance, she was completely ignored for the first time , remaining petrified for a few seconds by embarrassment. Ruby saw that and leaned on the door with an amused expression, she was no longer in a hurry leave, it was getting more and more interesting or rather entertaining.

Wyatt could notice the amused look of the lady in front of him and spoke again.

" I heard the second daughter of the Hartwell's family has returned to the country, so I came personally to propose a marriage on behalf of the Prescott family ".

As soon as those words were spoken, everyone in the Hartwell family changed their expressions , it was a fact that there were several internal disputes in Prescott family, initially ,that agreement should have only involved the secondary members of the family , but at that moment it was the head of the Prescott family himself who was proposing marriage and everyone was confused.

Dalton became cautious, if that spread, he could get into more trouble, he was selfish, he just wanted a small relationship with that family to survive a crisis, he didn't want to involve someone powerful like Wyatt.

" My granddaughter has just arrived, this matter still needs to be considered by her".

" Consider? who said I would consider anything?" she quickly responded with a smile on her face.

Ruby realized that the power of her family did not match with that of the man in front of her. He had come personally and her grandfather was afraid of causing trouble, so she decided to change the subject of forcing her to marry. But she was not a pawn to be manipulated by them, and since she had the chance to do something, she would .

" Since Mr. Prescott came personally to propose marriage, let me ask a question ," she approached a little closer, leaning forward with a smile on her lips. " Did you come to propose marriage for the young man in your family? or did you come to propose marriage for yourself? Depending on your answer, my opinion may also be different."

The way Ruby said it made it look like a blatant flirt from her side. Everyone fell into a deadly silence, where even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard, The Hartwell family panicked, and even Wyatt subordinates were speechless at that moment . Either she had a lot of courage, or she was going to be killed.

Everyone was still shocked by that question, how could she suggest that Wyatt Prescott could have gone to that house to propose marriage to her? Her family at that moment wished to have a muzzle to stop Ruby from saying things she shouldn't. Everyone was prepared to see Wyatt unleash his fury on the girl, but unexpectedly , he responded in a softer manner.

" What's the difference between the two proposals? Her finger still traced the arm of the chair.

" Well , if you came to propose marriage to the young man in your family, I suggest you turn around and leave," her words were clear, but still with the same provocative tone.

Everyone wondered if she was really crazy, how could she tell that man to leave? wasn't she tempting fate? or was she seeking the ruin of her own family , with her own downfall?.

Ruby's grandfather was in total despair, seeing his granddaughter act in that way, she was almost having a heart attack , thinking about the situation Ruby was involving them in.

" Ruby , what impertinence is this? apologize to Mr. Prescott!" He tried to salvage the situation.

Ruby heard her grandfather's reprimand and couldn't help but feel satisfied to see him in panic, she lifted her lips into a slight smile, feeling more excited than ever . she could see in that moment how good power was , if you had it, people like her grandfather , who were naturally arrogant , ended up bowing their heads, just as she was doing at that moment.

what Ruby found most amusing was at that moment was to think about the fact that they didn't want her to marry someone from the Prescott family. Didn't they desperately want her to be obedient and do what they wanted? well, she was doing it but not in the way her family wanted. As Ruby still wasn't sure that dream, she still remembered that if she ran away , her life would be ruined , so she would do it, but her own way.

Wyatt could see the mockery in that smile, his sharp eyes under those lenses seemed to see everything that was happening and facing that perception. he added

" And if I propose marriage myself?"

That morning was quite interesting. Instead of getting angry in public with Ruby's attitude, Wyatt was basically giving in to the young lady's whims, something they had never seen him do to anyone. In the background, Lacey paid attention to the direction things were taking, and finally, her good girl expression changed.

The young man Ruby was supposed to marry was nothing more than a playboy , but Wyatt was different. He was the leader of a powerful family, so of course, the interests behind it would change. Wyatt was someone who couldn't be manipulated, and if Ruby married him, things might not go as she wanted, even Ruby's position would be elevated.

Tilly saw her daughter's expression, understood what was at stake , and tried to interfere in that matter.

"Ruby ,we know that because you were raised outside of the country , you like to play and maybe don't understand the seriousness of things, I know you are young and you think you haven't had enough fun and that's why you don't want to get married , but this is not the time for games ,and what will Mr. Prescott, think of you and our family?"

At first , anyone who heard that speech would think I was just an advice and that she was thinking of her wellbeing , but Ruby knew all well what she wanted, in fact, she just wanted to give a very bad impression of her to Wyatt and that made her see how desperate she was at that moment, she straightened up and countered her argument.

" Aunty, what's your problem? now it's your turn to want to teach me a lesson?"

" You...."

Tilly's speech was interrupted by Wyatt's spicy gaze. He slowly took off his glasses , revealing an even colder look without those lenses.

" It didn't seem to me like she was joking ,' he replied, looking at Ruby direction.

Wyatt argued, putting an end to the possible obstruction from that family. He looked up at Ruby, repeating his question . something he usually wouldn't do .

" You still haven't answered my question ; if I proposed marriage myself, would you consider me worthy of you ?"

Ruby met Wyatt gaze and for the first time felt a kind of connection , looking more closely and without the teasing and jokes, she seemed to have seen that look before, it wasn't the same icy look he gave her stepmother.it had warmth she didn't understand , but that thought quickly dissipated. Wyatt wasn't the type of man to forget easily, but she was surprised by the question, wasn't it her who should be asking if she was worthy of Wyatt?

" Of course you are worthy," he replied, unable to use a playful tone.

Ruby wasn't lying at that moment. How could Wyatt not be worthy of her ? No matter the reason why Wyatt got involved in the game , and Wyatt was helping her get out of that house,she would only seize that opportunity to free herself from that situation and her family.
